benq home theatre projector 4kHome theatre projectors are one of my favourite technologies. I love going to the movies. Projectors bring that experience into your home to enjoy whenever you want. You can choose to mount it to create a designated theatre room, or you can keep it mobile so one day it’s in the living room for a movie, the next day in the basement for gaming, or in the kids room for a sleep over. Find out for yourself; enter this contest and you might win the amazing BenQ Cinehome 4K UHD HDR home theatre projector.

How amazing is the BenQ 4K projector

This is probably something that many people are wondering. We asked Erin Lawrence, Editor of Home Theatre on the blog and also a veteran of television news with CTV in Calgary, to try this projector and give us her honest opinion.

(NOTE: whenever we send out products for review we expect the writers to give their honest opinion so our customers know what to expect when they get the product to their home.)

In her written review and video review, Erin highly endorsed this projector. Here are some of the highlights of her review:

  1. The picture was amazing, despite her not having a white wall or a projection screen as a backdrop. (She actually projected it onto a blue wall and still she thought the image was great!)
  2. The image was bright, clear and showed accurate, crisp colours, even when the room was brightly lit.
  3. The fan (something that used to drive me crazy on an older projector I once had in my home) was barely noticeable and did not take away from the enjoyment of using this projector.

She also pointed out some of the things that people will consider adding to their home to make the experience even better.

How would you improve your own home theatre experience

Okay so let’s just suppose that you were the winner of this contest. Picture that! Where will you place it in your home? Would you mount it on the ceiling, or keep it mobile so you can move it from room to room?

Importantly, what technology would you need to make the home theatre experience truly complete? I’m not talking about a popcorn maker: that’s a given! Would you be looking to add a projection screen, or would you just choose a white wall (or paint a wall white for this best results). Would you look at getting a surround sound or ATMOS system ?Erin said that the sound from the projector is okay, but your home theatre would be much better with great home theatre audio. Would you add a 4K blu-ray player and start collecting a library of 4K movies to show on this 4K projector?

There are so many possibilities, and I didn’t even talk about home theatre seating. What would you consider adding to your home if you win this amazing projector?

Entering this contest is really easy but you can only enter once. First imagine that you did win this contest (Visualization is the first step toward making something a reality!). Next think about the things you will need to create a perfect 4K home theatre experience in your home. I listed some possibilities above. 1. Would need a 4K blue ray player, a projection screen to hide the bricked wall in the basement (only place large enough), and the kids to agree on what to watch 😛

  2. Taking home the BenQ 4K HDR Projector would require a new sectional sofa for the tv room. Really like the portability and a free standing screen would make some movies nights outside.

  3. We would make it the ultimate theatre experience for our family of 6! Aside from the popcorn machine and the necessary two-row seating (elevated rear-row), a gaming / media PC would be connected for 4K gaming and media streaming. A 4K disc player would be added in to maximize movie experiences along with a subscription to 4K programming from our local provider (a 4K hockey match?!). And of course, a retractable screen with 5.1 surround would be a must!

  4. When this isn’t being used in my family room I would need lawn chairs and a popcorn maker, because I’d create movie under the stars nights in my yard for the kiddies and their friends

  5. I just bought a house with my girlfriend and the old owner had a home theatre in the basement! sadly the surround sound, projector and couches were not included with the house; but the basement is equipped with a sound dampening sealing, carpet floors, and black curtains. If I won this projector I would add surround sound, a PS4 pro for 4k gaming and movies, and recliner entertainment couches to complete my dream home theatre!!

  6. My home theatre would need a LOT actually – Let’s start with a proper projection screen, mounted projector on the ceiling, blackout curtains for the best effect, U-shaped sectional for seating, and very importantly full surround sound including a subwoofer under the couch. I’ve got the blu-ray and gaming system already to complete the picture, and streaming will work for now.

  7. I would add a surround sound system , very comfortable theatre seating, led lighting, a great subwoofer, and a blu-ray player that is 4k capable so I could watch movies in excellent high quality. .

  8. As I am currently in the process of designing a new home theatre in my brand new house this would certainly help me in the decision making process. The BenQ HT 2550 is one of the top 3 choices for a 4K projector.

My room is 25×16 and it will be in the basement. I will be doing a 133 inch fixed grey screen with a 4k projector (model yet to be decided)
For speakers I will be doing a 7.1.4 Dolby Atmos/DTS X surround sound system.
The 7 base layer speakers will be Fluance Signature Series Towers and bookshelves.
The 4 Atmos speakers are ceiling mounted Micca M-8C
The Subwoofer is a PSA 15V
The Audio/Video will be processed through a Denon Avr-X4400H which will power all the speakers except for the L/R Towers which will be powered by a Bheringer Km750
Video will be played through an Xbox One S for UHD movies and Netflix etc.
Room Acoustic treatments will be a combination of Bass Traps and acoustic panels (brand yet to be decided)

Taking the decision out of my hands for which projector too choose would be the icing on the cake for my theatre, that I am very excited about finishing and using in the near future.

  9. I would add a 4K Blu-ray Player and new surround system and cake pop maker for some chocolatey snacks while watching the movies.

  10. I am almost finished my new basement and this projector would be amazing! If I won, I’d have to go all in and get a drop down screen, surround sound speakers, receiver, blackout shades, theater seating, 4K streamer and maybe even a popcorn machine 🙂

  11. I would mount it on the ceiling and paint one wall white with a black border. I already have an Xbox One S so I’d just need to get some 4K Blu-ray’s and I’d be all set. Next on the agenda is an upgrade to a 4k compatible home theater receiver and a better subwoofer.

  12. I would definitely need a surround sound system to go along with the projector but I would also like a projection screen to get hopefully the best picture possible.
