Great toys hold a special place in our hearts. They create great experiences at the time we play with them. They also leave a treasured memory that we can look back on and smile as we get older. The coolest toys do something a little extra. Really cool toys unite a generation, and sometimes multiple generations. Many of the hottest toys these days are tech toys: robots, drones etc. Which tech toy of 2016 do you think will make the biggest impression in a child’s life, or in your life? Just tell us what you think the coolest toy of 2016 is and you might win a huge trove of the newest toys from Best Buy.

bb8Every year new toys are released that have the potential to become a child’s special treasure. Best Buy carries many of these. Best Buy also has the greatest selection of tech toys. Last year I fell in love with the Sphero BB-8 App-enabled  Droid. It’s the kind of toy that will resonate in a person’s memories for decades.

(Four of the new special edition version of this droid are included in this contest’s prizes!)

 

You may find it difficult to decide what the coolest toy is this year. It’s not always easy to predict what will be the best toy in a given year, but really there are no wrong answers. For example, I asked my wife which tech toy she remembers as having been really cool when she was young and her answer, the Fisher Price parking garage (shown below), really surprised me! Note that Best Buy carries a Melissa & Doug version of this parking garage. I too had one of those vintage Fisher Price garages when I was young and played with it incessantly. I hadn’t thought about that toy in many years, but just the mention of it brought back a ton of great memories.

Kids nowadays may not view a parking garage as a tech toy given the options that exist. The prizes in this contest contain many of the best tech toys available in 2016. We have divided the more than $12000 in prizes into 6 toys bundles:

  3. The coolest toy I received as a kid was a ZX Spectrum 128K. It had 128K of memory. Games came on audio cassette tapes and a basic compiler to allow me to write my own applications.

  4. The coolest toy currently available have to be the ultimate drones with their 4k videos. There are amazing videos giving us new perspectives on things we’ve gotten used to seeing only from ground level

  5. The coolest tech toy/ gift I received as a kid – was a Texas Instrument computer. Wow- I was so cool – you had to program everything in yourself – it took me a week to program “Pong” on the computer…then played it nonstop for weeks

  25. When I was a kid, the coolest tech toy I received was a remote control train set. Still is one of my favourite gifts!

  32. My favorite “tech to”y from when I was younger was Teddy Ruxpin, the talking teddy bear from the 1980s..lol my has technology changed..lol

  35. My coolest childhood toy was PlayStation back in early 2000s. That was the best gift I ever received then ! Used to play (Super Mario) with my brother every single day till it was diminished !

  37. I think the coolest tech toy available at Best Buy in 2016 is the Sphero BB-8 App-enabled Droid. I know how much fun I had with my remote controlled jeep, I can just imagine how much fun BB-8, would be and he is so cute 😉

  40. The coolest tech toy I received when I was younger was a handheld electronic game called Merlin. There were several different games you could play on it, like Tic Tac Toe, Blackjack, Simon and Mastermind.

  44. My favorite Childhood “tech-toy” was the first commodore 64’s!! I remember loving this game called Rags to Riches. It was just the coolest thing haha.

  47. My coolest tech toy when I was a child was a view master movie projector with slides to view. That was back in 1980…. long time ago!

  48. Sphero BB-8 App-Enabled Droid with Star Wars Force Band is the coolest! It has so many ways to play with it! As a Star Wars fan, my son would have a blast with this toy!

  49. The coolest tech toy that I received when I was younger, was Coleco’s Electronic Quarterback (which I still have….) can’t count the number of hours I played with that!
