DJI Mavic 3 drone launch

The long-awaited launch of the DJI Mavic 3 drone is finally here. The newest drone of 2021 has been a source of speculation for months, and after an initial look, it definitely appears to live up to the hype. Here’s a quick rundown of the newest release from DJI.

DJI Mavic 3 launch

DJI has released two drones – the DJI Mavic 3 and DJI Mavic 3 Cine. The DJI Mavic 3 is available for pre-order right now, while the DJI Mavic 3 Cine Combo and the DJI Mavic 3 Fly More Combo are coming soon.

What’s the difference between DJI Mavic 3 and DJI Mavic 3 Cine?

Before I get into the features you’ll find on both drones, there are a few differences to note between the DJI Mavic 3 and the DJI Mavic 3 Cine.

The DJI Mavic 3 Cine has a built-in 1TB SSD while the standard DJI Mavic 3 has 8GB of memory. The DJI Mavic Cine is packaged with the new DJI RC Pro controller, while the DJI Mavic 3 has a controller that’s similar to other DJI drones. The DJI Mavic 3 Cine can also shoot in Apple ProRes 422 HQ.

Redesigned for better performance

If you’re familiar with DJI’s drones, you know they have features designed to capture amazing photos, give you smooth navigation, and keep you in the air longer. The DJI Mavic 3 has been completely redesigned for improved performance in every part of the drone.

No matter how high you fly, you’ll be able to capture spectacular aerial video and photos. Instead of the standard one-camera drone that DJI has released in the past, this drone has two cameras on board.

Two cameras offer multiple ways to capture the best shot

Both DJI Mavic 3 drones have a Hasselblad 4/3-inch 20 MP sensor with 24mm adjustable aperture prime lens and an 84-degree field of view. The addition of the Hasselblad lens adds Hasselblad’s Natural Colour Solution, so colours are deep, accurate, and vivid.

The aperture on the primary camera is adjustable between f/2.8 and f/11. It can capture 20 MP images in 12-bit RAW format, 5.1K video at 50 frames per second, and 4K video at 120 frames per second. The camera also has a 10-bit D-Log colour profile for spectacular colour and contrast. You can capture both JPEG and DNG RAW images with this camera.

The secondary camera is a 12MP 4x digital zoom camera with 162 mm telephoto lens, a 15-degree field of view, and a fixed aperture of f/4.4. If you have a DJI drone and you’ve used interchangeable lenses to achieve the perfect shot, you’ll love how the secondary camera virtually eliminates the need for those lenses. You can zoom in and set up the perfect photo or video, and it has Vision Detection autofocus technology to optimize focus. The secondary camera can shoot 4K video at 30fps.

One other great feature on the DJI Mavic 3 drone—it has a 1080p, 60fps transmission speed on live feed. This means the camera view you’re seeing on the remote is a resolution that is very close to what the camera will record.

Battery life and speed

If you’ve taken a look at some of the videos showing the drone in the sky, you’ll know that it’s extremely fast. In good conditions, it can stay in the air for up to 46 minutes before you’ll need to recharge. It can also hit speeds of up to 75 km per hour (47 mph).

Both drones have O3+ signal loss prevention with a maximum control range of 15 km.

Flight safety features

DJI has built in several improved safety features. This drone has an updated APAS 5.0 system with six fish-eye vision sensors and two wide-angle sensors. With omnidirectional obstacle sensing and improved ActiveTrack 5.0, your drone can narrow in on and track subjects wherever they go. Even if you move out of frame (or you’re in the middle of a forest speeding down a trail), the drone can sense where you’ve left the frame and pick you up again.

The Return to Home system has also been improved, and now it will automatically calculate the fastest and most energy-efficient way back to the home point. It can actually take into account what the wind speed is and how much battery it has left, then decide on the best route back to you.

DJI Mavic 3 is available for pre-order now

That’s just a quick rundown of the features of the DJI Mavic 3 and the DJI Mavic 3 Cine. You can pre-order the new DJI Mavic 3 right now, with the DJI Mavic 3 Cine Combo and DJI Mavic 3 Fly More Combo coming soon.
