Airthings Wave radon detector reviewNovember is Radon action month. Did you know that radon gas that seeps up from radioactive elements deep underground can collect in your home? You can’t smell it, taste it, or see it either. And radon is deadly, leading to more cases of lung cancer than any other cause for non-smokers. To help raise awareness of the dangers of radon, Best Buy is giving away 2 sets of Airthings monitors in this contest.

How can you be sure the air in your home is safe?

Your home is your sanctuary, a place you relax and unwind, enjoying time with your family. The last thing you need is a silent, odourless, invisible pest; and there is no nastier pest than radon gas. In Canada alone, over 3000 people die each year due to illnesses caused by radon (takeactiononradon.ca). That’s more than from car accidents!

Radon gas is a naturally occurring product of radioactive elements in the soil. It gets into our homes from the ground, and since it is heavier than air, it can collect in our homes and concentrate to hazardous levels. You can act to reduce it if you know it’s a problem in your home. Airthings smart monitors can measure the radon levels continuously and send those reading right to an app on your phone. In addition, the newest Airthings Wave Plus can measure radon, CO2, and other harmful substances for added protection (One of the prizes for this contest includes a Wave Plus!).

Radon levels are different all over the country

Last year, I sent one Airthings Wave monitor to writers across the country; the readings were then published in a review by Brad Moon on our blog. As you can see from the graph (reproduced here), radon levels vary a lot from place to place.

Best Buy has many kinds of smart technology designed to make your home safer. There are smart cameras, smart lights, smart sensors, and more. Using a monitor designed to detect radon is one way to keep your home safe. And, since placement is so important, you might need more than one if your home has multiple levels. That’s why we are giving each winner of this contest two monitors: so the air you breathe in your home can be safer.

How to enter

Entering is easy, but you can only enter once. First look at the smart home section of Best Buy’s website, then tell us another product (besides Airthings radon monitors) that you think would increase the safety of your home.

What you can win

At the end of this contest, we will select two (2) winners from all eligible entries. One person will win an Airthings Wave Plus and an Airthings Wave, the other person will receive an Airthings Wave and an Airthings Corentium Radon Gas Monitor.

This contest runs from November 28th to December 12th.

Remember, you can only enter once, but tell your family about the risks posed by radon gas so they too can act to protect their home.

  1. A D-Link Wireless Indoor/Outdoor 1080p HD IP Camera would be handy to keep an eye on what’s going on in front of our home. Thanks

  2. The video door bell for sure. My husband works out of town 2 weeks of a month and this would be great for the kids and I!

  3. The iSmartAlarm Door/Window Sensor would increase the safety of my home. Thanks for the contest, these are such a smart idea!

  4. More safety in the home could be monitored by the Google Nest Protect Wi-Fi Smoke & Carbon Monoxide Alarm

  5. A Ring Doorbell would be great for checking out who’s at the door and seeing when parcels are delivered, since many of the couriers don’t knock.

  6. Definitely the Video Doorbell. My front door has a mall window along side the door and is not easy to see who is at the door. I always worry about opening the door to strangers. Also, it would protect us from having parcels stolen at our front door when we are away, especially when it ties into your cell phone and alerts you when someone is at your door. My son had 3 parcels stolen off his front door area and he now had the Video Doorbell system and so far so good. It would make me feel so much safer. Thanks for the chance!

  7. the Parcel Guard would be a great idea to protect my delivered packages from being stolen before I get home from work!

  8. The Arlo Pro 2 Wire-Free Indoor/Outdoor Security System with 4 1080p HD Cameras would increase the safety of my home.

  9. Ring WiFi 720p Video Doorbell – Satin Nickel would be great to help with security and keep my family safe as we would always know who is at our front door from anywhere we are.

  10. Arlo video doorbell ….recently I phoned the police about some suspicious characters….the first thing they asked was “do you have video cameras”.

  11. I think the August Wi-Fi Smart Lock Pro + Connect would be good in case you forget to lock your door.

  12. The danby parcel guard! I think that by not giving people a reason to come up to the house they won’t need to come on the porch and then go from there! We shop alot online and knowing the packages can be locked down until we get them would be a really good deterrent and give us a piece of mind !
