Samsung G3 G5 G7 monitor contest at Best Buy

Samsung Odyssey series monitors deliver amazing gaming and productivity. We already gave away the largest G9 monitors in a contest earlier this year. Now you have a chance to win one three different sizes and styles of Odyssey monitors: the G3, G5, and the G7. These monitors offer superior performance. I’ll highlight some of the features that differentiate them. Then you’ll have a chance to weigh in on which features are most important to you to enter this contest.

Display size an obvious consideration for your new Samsung Monitor

I have to admit, I am not into the massive monitors like Samsung’s G9 with its 49″ screen. Firstly, I don’t have the room for one. Secondly, and most importantly, I am an infrequent gamer, so I would not get the benefit of total immersion that a gamer embraces with one or more large monitors. Of the three monitors that we are giving away in this contest, the G3 would be perfect for me with its 24″ screen, a huge improvement over the 21 inch screen I currently use. The G5’s 27″ and the G7’s 28″ wouldn’t be a problem for my space, and I might be in heaven with the extra space (I’d have to try it and see).

Here is a table of some of the other key features found in these three monitors (thanks to Marcus Wong who created this table for his detailed review of these three monitors).

As you can see, there are some clear differences in addition to screen size.

Which feature is the most important when choosing a gaming monitor

Monitors are tricky things to buy. You try to compare models but there are so many features and some of these will not likely weigh on your decision at all. For example, in the monitors Best Buy is giving away in this contest, few people would choose one over the other based on the difference in HDMI video input. HDMI 1.4 is perfectly fine for the G3 with its 1080p display, but the G7 with its 4K display requires the new HDMI 2.1 standard (it supports a 4K signal at 120Hz) or you wouldn’t get the benefit of the higher resolution screen. So, some people might choose the G7 based on its 4k resolution, rather than its HDMI support, and other people will be fine with the resolution of the G3, and spend less money for a monitor that perfectly suits their needs.

And that raises a good point about monitors: the more modern the features, the higher the price. Yes, this applies to technology in general and monitors are not exempt. So when selecting a new monitor many people focus on two or three features and also on the price. For example, my daughter recently bought a monitor and a main consideration was that it was white to match her apartment (and she found exactly what she wanted at Best Buy!).

Think about what you want in a monitor and then enter this contest for a chance to win one of these three monitors.

How to enter

Entering this contest is easy and you can enter in two different ways.

  1. In a comment below, tell us about three features that you think are the most important when you are shopping for a monitor. For example, if you mention colour, what about colour: should it be dark like the monitors we are giving away or perhaps pink like the Samsung M8 monitor to match your decor?
  2. In a comment beneath the review article for these monitors on Best Buy’s blog, tell us which of the three monitors he discusses is your favourite and why.

What you can win

At the end of this contest, we will randomly select three (3) eligible entries to each win one of the three monitors that we sent out for review: a Samsung Odyssey G3, G5, or G7 gaming monitor.

This contest runs from May 19th to June 2nd.

Remember you can enter once in a comment below and once in a comment on the review article for these monitors. However, you can boost your chances of getting to see and try these monitors by telling your friends and family to enter too!

  2. I do not have a game monitor, so I NEED one to play properly. Important features for me are size, the bigger the better! Resolution for beautiful images and Refresh Rate has to be fast.

  3. The most important features for me are Size- it has to be just right, Resolution has to top notch and Refresh Rate has to be fast.

  4. larger screen than my current 19″ model. IPS panel as I do photo editing and colour reproduction is important. Resolution as next, when not using for work related projects like to distract with some good old Tomb Raider or American Truck Simulator and drive up and down the west coast

  5. I have never gamed, but it would be size, if it’s compatible with the system I am using and easy to set up.

  6. Vivid colors that are bright and crystal clear and come to life, high resolution like 4K, 8K or oled display, and fast refresh rate. Lots of import outlets like hdmi and USB as well as component and composite outlets for old gaming devices and VCR’S etc. Bluetooth and mirroring capabilities. All the latest bells and whistles. Those are all what I look for when I buy a monitor.

  7. The 3 features I look for when monitor shopping would be panel type, refresh rate and the design of the monitor.

  8. The three features I’m looking for are:
    1. Size. Bigger is better for my eyes.
    2. IPS panel. Viewing angle is very important for comfort.
    3. Refresh rate. A faster display is very important for gaming.

  9. Three features I look for while monitor shopping are:
    1. High Refresh rate: As a gamer, I need that quick response time.
    2. High Resolution: Have to enjoy those next gen graphics, with the video card I have.
    3. IPS Panel: For colour accuracy

  10. Three features I look for while monitor shopping are:
    1. High Refresh rate: As a gamer, I need that quick response time.
    2. High Resolution: Have to enjoy those next gen graphics, with the video card I have.
    3. IPS Panel: For colour accuracy

  11. The three features I would look for in a monitor would be:

    1. IPS panel: I love me good viewing angles.

    2. At least 144Hz refresh rate for gaming. Frames win games right?

    3. I would love to own a 4K monitor (or a 1440p) monitor. I’ve owned a 1920×1080 monitor for soooo long. It would be nice to move to 4K to give my RX6800 XT a bit to chew on.

  12. The three features I’m looking for are:
    1. Size. Bigger is better for my eyes.
    2. IPS panel. Viewing angle is very important for comfort.
    3. Refresh rate. A faster display is very important for gaming.

  13. The resolution is the most important, obviously. The higher the resolution, the more details it can show.
Portrait mode is great if you’re a fan of old school vertical-scrolling shooters.
The video input, for future-proofing and the best picture quality.

  14. The 3 features I look for when monitor shopping would be panel type, refresh rate and the design of the monitor.

  15. The three features I look for in a monitor are monitor size, my current monitor is a bit on the small size so I’d like to get something bigger next time, refresh rate, I’d like to get something with a good refresh rate for better gaming and finally resolution, I’d really like to get a 4k monitor.

  16. For me the 3 things to look for in a monitor when shopping for one are the following:

    1. First, Screen Size. You have to find which one will fit in your setup and which one you are comfortable with. This will narrow down your choices.

    2. Second, Resolution. This is key for you to choose just how good you want the quality of the output to be and what you are capable of producing using your PC.

    3. Lastly, Refresh Rate. Most people even today are fine with 60Hz, but a lot are starting to experience higher refresh rates and want that feature. This comes third so you can see what choices you have left and then you can pick and choose which smaller features, such as I/O, you would like going from there.

  17. I definitely look for monitor size and design; I like slimmer models that look sleek and modern, and should be not too big but a decent size. I also look for a decent resolution, preferably 4k capabilities. Finally I would love colours from the display to be sharp and vibrant.

  18. For me, the three big features I look for:

Color quality – I like to work on photography.
    Resolution – prefer QHD.
Refresh – I like to play the occasional FPS.

  19. Size is important (24-27 inches) for me.
Also high refresh rates for my fps games and lastly how good the HDR looks as I’m picky with my colours!

  20. All I look for in a monitor are:
Size – to fit my desks enclosure
Panel Type – Gotta be IPS
HDMI – Just gotta have it

I do look at if its 1080p or 1440p, if its 60hz or something higher, and how fast the response time is as well, but they are minor consideration. Protty much i jist aim to have better features than my existing monitor.

  21. Three features I look for while monitor shopping are:
    1. High Refresh rate: As a gamer, I need that quick response time.
    2. High Resolution: Have to enjoy those next gen graphics, with the video card I have.
    3. IPS Panel: For colour accuracy

  22. The 3 key features I focus on most would be:
Refresh rate – preferably 144hz for smooth and responsive gameplay.
Resolution – 1440p for fast paced online games or 4k to enjoy stunning graphics in single player campaigns.
Panel type – I prefer IPS for better color accuracy and brightness

  23. It’s a toss up between the G7 and G5 for me the G7 has some better specs but the G5 is curved and I love me a nice curved monitor!

  24. High resolution, refresh rate and monitor size are the 3 key things I’m looking for!

  25. Three things I’m looking for in a monitor are HDMI 2.1, resolution 4K and panel type IPS.
    G7 is what I’m looking for as I have a PS5.

  26. The 3 features that I look for on a new monitor is fast refresh rate, high pixel count, and fast response time.

  27. Odyssey G7 Monitor definitely my favorite amazing specs 1ms response time new HDMI 2.1 feature 120MHZ and HDR 400

  28. I’m looking for HDMI 2.1, 4k, and vrr. I have a Xbox series x and those features are exactly what I’d want.

  29. While shopping for monitors the things I look out for are its size, resolution and frame rate.

Size is a big thing for me as I do a lot of work on multiple spreadsheets and applications with large amounts of data and prefer to have one large monitor vs 2. I don’t have space for 3 otherwise I would go for that.

Resolution and Frame/Refresh rate is clearly just for the gaming and entertainment part of my use of the PC. I have never tried a monitor over 144hz but I did try to go back to my laptop with a 60hz display which made me think my laptop was broken. I even ended up formatting it and starting from scratch only to realize, it wasn’t the laptops fault. I had just gotten too used to 144hz. As for the resolution, I don’t think I could go back to anything below 1440p.

Bonus item: Appearance. I like a subtle monitor in black with the thinnest bezels possible. Nothing flashy. Just nothing with ridiculous stands.

    • Ohh. And obviously the biggest of the bunch G7 would be my pick.

Thanks and sorry for this message. I had completely forgotten about the 2nd step of the giveaway entry.

  30. Three features that are most important when monitor shopping for me:
    1. Design – thin edges and black, sleek body are probably my standard points to look out for
    2. Adjustable stand – I currently own two mismatching monitors and I have to prop my older one up using books to make them more leveled. I’d look for adjustability in my future monitors.
    3. Colours & Sharpness – I definitely love vibrant colours and sharp yet anti-aliased visuals. I currently have to bump it up in the game settings when I play anything just to make up for it in my current monitors.

  31. The G7 is most exciting! I think not only does it look great but the refresh rate and HDR400 make the 4K really pop. Would really make use of the 30xx series card I just snagged!!!

  32. “The most important” depends on the game type you are playing. But in my opinion, the refresh rate is the most important thing to a gaming monitor. The resolution and size are important too because you can see more details on higher resolution and a bigger monitor. For example, if you are playing a multiplayer first-person shooter, the refresh rate is definitely the most important, if you are playing an RPG solo or an adventure game, you want to see the beauty of the environment more than how fast can you spot an enemy or can you shoot him.
My favourite one is the G7 ofc. Why? First of all, because it has a G-Sync feature and I have an Nvidia game card. I like it more than the other two also because it has a higher resolution and a higher screen size.

  33. For me, it has to be resolution, frame rate, and response time. The higher the better for the best performance.

  34. I would love a G7 monitor, with the 4k resolution, 120Hz refresh rate, and 28″ screen would be perfect for my gaming, and the right size for me to fit more work and bigger projects during the weekdays.

  35. For me, the most important features are frame rate for smooth gameplay, resolution for great detail, and colour/contrast for great visuals.

  36. Three most important things in a monitor for me is resolution, frame rate, and response time, need all the best of those for the best experience in games

  37. The most important for me is the resolution , the panel is important because I like to see movie and last the screen size because I have a bad vision I need a 27 inch monitor.

  38. The g7. Best specs and most important for me is the refresh rate. Must have for gaming.

  39. 3 important features for me would be:

    1. Color accuracy (as I am a freelance digital artist)

    2. A white or pink monitor would definitely be ideal to match my set up but okay with other Color’s!

    3. And higher screen size for me as I do a lot of different kind of work and gaming on my pc, as well as streaming!

  40. The G5 would be my choice because 1440p144hz is the sweet spot in gaming right now, providing a bump in resolution from 1080p without tanking the performances.

The 1000R curvature would be also a nice thing to help it fit in my setup 🙂

  41. Resolution and refresh rate are the most important as I venture out into the battlefield of war zone.

  42. The most important to me is refresh rate, panel type, and resolution, as these all affect the performance.

  43. Resolution because I would love to play games in 4K, refresh rate must be at least 120Hz and an IPS panel to have the best colours.

    • The G7 is most exciting! I think not only does it look great but the refresh rate and HDR400 make the 4K really pop. Would really make use of the 30xx series card I just snagged!!!
