Cuisinart Hand Blender mainHand blenders or immersion blenders are a simple and easy to use kitchen tool perfect for making smoothies, soups, and sauces. They’re a valuable addition to your selection because, aside from being easy to use, they also clean up quickly and don’t take up too much storage space. Their slender design allows you to blend directly in a pot, measuring cup, bowl, or jar. Today, I’m reviewing the Cuisinart Hand/Immersion Blender.

Once you’ve opened the box of the Cuisinart Hand/Immersion Blender you’ll find the power handle, the whisk and immersion attachments as well as a measuring beaker. Lift out the plastic insert to find the USB charging cord with adapter and the instruction and recipe booklet. As per the insert instructions, you’ll want to hold onto the box in case you need to return the blender.

Testing out the Cuisinart immersion blender

Cuisinart HB inside the boxAfter unboxing the Cuisinart Hand/Immersion Blender the first thing I did was plug in the USB charging cord into the adapter, wall plug and power handle as it requires a full charge before the initial use. A full charge will be reached in approximately two hours and you’ll know when it’s fully charged as all three of the blue LED lights will be illuminated. When the blue LED lights are all solid and lit this means your battery capacity is at 95% which is considered fully charged for lithium-ion batteries. When only two lights are solid, your battery is between 70-95% charged and when only one light is solid, your battery is less than 40% charged. The hand blender is also equipped with a quick charge feature which allows you to plug it in for a shorter time for a quick mix of some homemade dip in a pinch before the guests arrive.

Assembling the Cuisinart Hand/Immersion Blender is quick and easy to do and is one of the perks of the unit. To attach both the whisk and immersion attachment, simply line up the arrow on the attachments with the unlock image on the power handle and twist until you hear a click.

Cuisinart HB chargingI took a few minutes to read through the instruction booklet to learn about the specifications of the blender as well as cleaning instructions and any important safeguards. From previous experience owning an immersion blender, I know how powerful and sharp the blades can be and I wanted to make sure I knew any important details about this specific one. As recommended, I wiped down the power handle with a clean damp cloth to remove any dust or dirt from the packaging. I then washed the immersion and whisk attachments with warm soapy water as both attachments are not dishwasher safe. The chef’s whisk needs to be removed from the gearbox before washing and it’s easy to do by simply pulling them gently apart. I have never owned a hand blender with a whisk attachment, so I thought I’d give it a try with some whipping cream I already had whipped in the fridge. I was impressed with the power it had: I personally wouldn’t use it for something as delicate a fluid as cream as there was some flying whipping cream involved. We love pavlova in our house (it’s a delicious meringue-based desert topped with whipping cream and fruit if you’ve never tried it) and I think this whisk attachment would be perfect to make the meringue instead.

Cuisinart HB in useMy favourite use for an immersion blender is making homemade sauces with fresh roasted veggies, stock, and herbs and spices. It is so quick and easy to do and makes a sauce with a perfectly smooth consistency; both my sons are not a fan of chunky sauces. This is also a great way to sneak in extra veggies. After locking the immersion attachment onto the power handle, I placed the immersion blender into my bowl, pressed the unlock button and then the power button. The blender will not work unless you press the unlock button first and then the power button needs to be pressed immediately after to power on. To avoid splashing, make sure the protective blade guard is submerged into your liquid while blending. I used a gentle up-and-down motion to ensure all my ingredients got pulled into the blades for a nice smooth sauce.

I simply washed both the whisk and stainless-steel immersion attachments in warm soapy water after use and air dried them.

Final thoughts about the Cuisinart hand blender

Cuisinart HB storageI was impressed with the power behind the Cuisinart Hand/Immersion Blender. I noticed a strong pull down into the bowl and found I also needed to hold firmly onto the bowl for stability. The blender also has a pulse feature. After powering on, simply repeatedly press and release the power on button while continuously holding down the unlock button.

I love how easy it is to attach and remove both the chef’s whisk and immersion attachments. The power handle, attachments, and charging cord with adaptor are compact and easy to use, and it takes up minimal space. I easily fit it into one of my smaller kitchen drawers for storage.

One important tip I have is if you have really nice or expensive non-stick pots and pans, either be extra careful or mix in another vessel as you could cause scratches to the coating.

For safety purposes please keep your hands, clothing, hair and other utensils away from the blending/mixing attachments during use, especially given how powerful it is.
