partridge-pear-tree-21405152.jpgWho here hasn’t heard of the Twelve days of Christmas? I always thought the giving a Partridge in a Pear Tree began 12 days before Christmas and ending before Christmas Eve, but according to Twelve Days of Christmas legend, the 12 days actually start on Christmas day and head into the New Year.

There are a few theories on the origin of the song too. One version has it that the song originated as sort of a remembering game British children played. If they forgot a verse they had to forfeit something. The other theory is that it was a coded hymn sang by Catholics when they were banned from practicing their faith back in the early 1800’s.

However it came to be and whether you’ve heard it played at a Christmas concert or you’ve been subjected to Bob and Doug’s Canadian version of the song, it’s definitely a Christmas song that sticks in your head. What better way to have a little fun this Christmas season than to have our own version of the 12 days of Christmas, right here on Plug In?

Starting today and for the next twelve days, be on the lookout for the ’12 days of Christmas gifts.’ If you’re stuck wondering what to buy something this year, we’ll have you covered by Day 12. kitchenaid-blue-mixer.jpg

On the first day of Christmas gifts, we’ve got one of the best things you can put under the tree this year: a KitchenAid Stand Mixer.

I actually know someone who said, “Why would you want a stand mixer for Christmas?” To say I was baffled at that was an understatement, but when I told her the story of how I found my own KitchenAid stand mixer under the Christmas tree a few years ago and how I shared it on Facebook, Twitter, and everywhere else to various oohhs and ahhs, she finally understood the sheer joy of having one of these mixers.

You see them on TV shows or displayed all shiny and new at the local mall and you’ve wondered if they’re really as helpful as they look. Yes, yes they are, and I’ve been happily mixing, stirring, and whipping things ever since I got one. Here are a few quick reasons why KitchenAid Stand Mixers are a great Christmas gift this year:

KitchenAid.JPGThey do a bit of everything

Have you ever tried to stir cookie dough by hand? Cream sugar and butter together? Make a pie crust without a little elbow grease? Having a KitchenAid Stand Mixer means you don’t have to do these tasks by hand, and even better, it mixes so well you don’t have to worry that something wasn’t blended properly.

They have attachments to do more

I recently tried out all of the attachments available for the KitchenAid Stand Mixer and I have to say, they are all pretty amazing. You can connect a Food Grinder, Ice Cream Maker, and Pasta Maker right to the front of your mixer and produce pasta, make gelato, or chop up nuts or meat. These attachments basically turn your kitchen into a foodie’s dream.

It looks great on your counter top

You know how you have some appliances that you like to hide away? That won’t be the case with this stand mixer. It comes in a variety of colours you’ll love to display, from cornflower blue to yellow or hot red. It’s an appliance to admire and have ready for whenever you want to use it, not hide away in a cupboard.

You can find KitchenAid Stand Mixers right now on Bestbuy.ca, so hop on over there and take a look. And if you’re going to give a KitchenAid Stand Mixer as a gift, don’t forget about the KitchenAid Flex Edge Beater. You might want to stuff it into a stocking, because it will be met with joy all around. It eliminates the need to scrape the bowl, so you can just turn the mixer on and you’ll be sure everything is perfectly blended.

Tune in tomorrow for Day 2 of the 12 Day of Christmas gifts: laptops. If you’re in the market for a new laptop or you’re interested in giving one as a gift for someone this year, don’t miss out on Leo’s recommendations.

  1. I woud love to give one to my mom this Christmas. The fun (and difficult) part is choosing which colour to get!

  2. It really is @fiftythree. I’ve always loved the red mixer, but that cornflower blue is SO nice. The one I have right now is black, but when I upgrade I’m going to have a really hard time choosing.
