While we’ve always been remained fairly obsessed with fighter titles like the Street Fighter or Tekken series, Atlus has been making solid titles of their own for years.  The Persona titles have gained popularity the last few years, and on September 30th, the latest version of the Persona 4 series comes out for PlayStation 3 and Xbox 360.

Persona 4 Arena Ultimax is continuation of the original, which was released a couple of years ago. The game follows the events of the original Persona 4 Arena and takes you through the shocking revelation that the Midnight Channel is still active. As a mysterious haze sets in causing disappearances and panic, previously kidnapped characters from Persona 3 re-appear and become playable in-game once again.

In the meantime, all of Persona 4 Arena’s characters return along with a few extras.  You can play as new character Sho Minazuki,  the announcer Rise, and Yukari Takeba, Junpei Iori, Ken Amada and Koromaru from Persona 3, the latter two of which will act as a singular character.  Upcoming DLC will also add new characters in the future.

You’ll also see the introduction of two new game modes as well.  “Golden Arena” sees you taking a fighter and leveling them up through an XP system which allows you to unlock new moves and abilities, and a game of side-quests as well which Atlus dubs “Adachi” mode.

All of the fighters have been rebalanced, and some even have new move sets and special moves.  The new “S-Hold” ability allows you to use charged version of your special attacks, and the character select pool is further diversified with the ability to select shadow versions of most of the game’s major characters. The Shadow versions are there for more advanced players. If you tend to play a more tactical style rather than a full onslaught of powerful attacks or special moves, you may find better success using these characters, as they are built better for fighting game tacticians.

To sweeten the pot even more, Atlus has announced some pre-order bonuses for Persona 4 Arena Ultimax, and these are available to you both in-store and online at BestBuy.ca.  Reserve your copy of the game to get access to the following announced bonuses:

  • A Collectible Teddie “Bop” Bag
  • 11 “Set 1” Tarot Cards. This is the first half of a series of tarot cards available in the Persona Series. The other set will come available as a Pre-Order bonus for Persona Q: Shadow of the Labyrinth.
  • Adachi Episode “Tohru Adachi” is also available at part of this Pre-Order for free, however, it is only for the first week of release.

This Pre-Order bonus is only available while supplies last, and given that the Adachi episode will only be available for the first week, there is no better time than the present to take advantage to ensure you get the game at release!

Persona 4 Arena Ultimax releases for Xbox 360 and PlayStation 3 on September 30th.  Reserve your copy now to get in on the bonuses.
