PlayStation kicked off the Summer Game Fest season with a stellar 30 plus minute State of Play digital event. PlayStation showcased a total of 14 upcoming video games for PS5, PS VR2 and PC. Games including Until Dawn, Dynasty Warriors: Origins, Marvel Rivals, Ballad of Antara, Where Winds Meet, Path of Exile 2, Infinity Nikki, and God of War Ragnarök on PC—to name a few, were showcased.

Astro Bot is back in a full fledged adventure

Astro is back in a super-sized space adventure! At today’s State of Play, Team Asobi unveiled a brand-new Astro Bot game coming exclusively to PlayStation 5. In this exciting new game, you get to explore 6 different galaxies and over 80 levels to help Astro reunite his scattered crew. In true Astro Bot fashion, this brand new game takes full advantage of the DualSense controller’s advanced features, allowing you to feel every step of Astro’s journey.

Astro will have access to over 15 new abilities, including the Barkster Bulldog Booster for air-dashing and smashing through obstacles, and the Twin-Frog Gloves for long-range punching and swinging. These new powers, combined with improved controls, looks as if they will take the Astro platforming experience to new heights. But Astro won’t be going it alone, the new game features over 70 new enemy types, including massive boss battles at the end of each galaxy.

Defeating Astro’s foes will uncover wonderful secrets, I can’t wait! And for the hardcore players, Astro Bot will have die-and-retry challenge levels to put your skills to the test. Additionally, Astro will also reunite with many familiar faces from the PlayStation universe, so longtime PlayStation fans are in for some exciting cameos. Mark your calendars, because this epic Astro Bot adventure launches on September 6, 2024 on PS5.

Concord gameplay and launch day revealed

Concord is an exciting new 5v5 character-driven, first-person multiplayer shooter set in the Concord galaxy. Developed by Firewalk Studios, Concord is a love letter to classic sci-fi adventures, blending deep lore and cinematic storytelling with fast-paced, skill-based gameplay. In Concord, you’ll play as the crew of the Northstar – a group of professional mercenaries known as Freegunners. These Freegunners roam the stars, taking on high-stakes jobs and battling rival crews across a variety of maps and game modes.

While the core shooting mechanics look very familiar to FPS fans, Firewalk Studios says that Concord will set itself apart with the unique abilities of each Freegunner. From powerful mystics to skilled gunslingers, every character has their own special skills and strategies to master. For example, some can create walls of fire, throw explosive knives, or even deploy bullet-blocking domes – adding layers of depth and unpredictability to every match.

Beyond the intense multiplayer action, Concord will also feature a weekly evolving narrative, with cinematic vignettes that expand the stories and relationships of the Northstar crew. As you play, you’ll uncover more about the Concord galaxy and the dangers that lurk within. Concord is set to launch on PlayStation 5 and PC on August 23, 2024. You can look forward to trying out the game in a beta later this summer.

Monster Hunter Wilds new gameplay and details

Monster Hunter Wilds is the next big adventure in the beloved Monster Hunter series, and is coming in 2025. This new game takes you on an epic journey to the Forbidden Lands, a vast and untamed region that has never been explored before. As a hunter appointed to the Forbidden Lands Research Commission, you’ll venture into this living, breathing world filled with dynamic environments and a diverse ecosystem of monsters.

The first locale revealed is the Windward Plains, a sprawling region with harsh deserts, grassy plains, and towering rock formations. These environments can change dramatically, forcing the monsters that live there to adapt. You’ll encounter all-new creatures like the massive and territorial Doshaguma, the adhesive-spitting Chatacabra, and the migrating herbivore Dalthydon. These monsters don’t just roam the land, they interact with each other in complex ways, creating an immersive and unpredictable hunting experience.

To take on these fearsome foes, you’ll have access to the 14 iconic Monster Hunter weapon types, each with new evolutions and abilities. The new Focus Mode and Hook Slinger system give you more precision and versatility in combat. And you can even ride the nimble Seikret mounts to quickly traverse the massive open world. Monster Hunter Wilds promises an unforgettable adventure when in launches in 2025.

Skydance’s Behemoth and Alien: Rogue Incursion PS VR2 gameplay

PS VR2 fans were where treated to two exciting new games – Skydance’s Behemoth and Alien: Rogue Incursion. Skydance’s Behemoth is a dark fantasy adventure game that takes you to the Forsaken Lands, a grim and unforgiving world teeming with dangers. Using a grappling hook and your natural climbing abilities, you scale towering mountains. And, explore the remnants of a once-great civilization. You’ll face off against skilled, strategic warriors, using a physics-driven melee combat system to crack skulls and sever limbs. But the true challenge lies in conquering the mighty Behemoths – massive, rage-filled monsters that hold the key to ending the ancient curse plaguing the land.

Meanwhile, Alien: Rogue Incursion is a single-player, action-horror game set in the iconic Alien universe. As you explore an overrun facility, you’ll need to stay alert and use your creativity to survive the Xenomorph attacks. With dynamically spawning and unpredictable Xenomorphs, your whits will be put to the test.

Both Skydance’s Behemoth and Alien: Rogue Incursion look like they will deliver thrilling and immersive experiences VR gaming experiences. Skydance’s Behemoth is set to launch on PS VR2 Fall 2024 and Alien: Rogue Incursion will launch holiday 2024.

Silent Hill 2 remake new gameplay footage and launch date confirmed

Konami showed off a new trailer of the upcoming Silent Hill 2 remake. The new Silent Hill 2 remake takes you back to the foggy town of Silent Hill. Where protagonist James Sunderland arrives searching for his deceased wife. As James explores the eerie streets and buildings, he encounters all-too-familiar horrors, including the iconic nurses and the towering Pyramid Head.

The remake features a new over-the-shoulder camera perspective. As a result, this gives you a more immersive and intense experience as you fight off the twisted monsters. The combat and environments have been updated with modern graphics and gameplay. The good news is the core survival horror elements that made the original so compelling remain intact.

While the new trailer showed off some intense action sequences, the developers have promised to stay true to the psychological horror roots of Silent Hill 2. Konami says that we can expect an unsettling atmosphere, thought-provoking storylines, and deeply disturbing moments. I don’t know about you but this sounds like its sure to haunt me long after playing. Silent Hill 2 is set to launch on October 8, 2024.
