After months of rumours, leaks and speculation EA has officially announced Star Wars: Squadrons. Developed by Motive Studios in Montreal, this game features 5v5 multiplayer dog fights, epic fleet battles, and an original single player story. You don’t have to wait long, Star Wars: Squadrons is set to launch on October 2, 2020 for PlayStation 4, Xbox One, and PC.
Let’s take a look at some of the details about Star Wars: Squadrons from today’s announcement.
Star Wars: Squadrons Details
Platform(s): PlayStation 4, Xbox One and PC
Developer: Motive Studios
Publisher:Â Electronic Arts
Genre:Â Action
Modes: Single-player, multiplayer (1-5 players)
All-new single player story experience
Star Wars: Squadrons features an all-new story that is set during the final days of the Galactic Empire and the rise of the New Republic after the events of Star Wars: Return of the Jedi. The story brings to life the events following the Battle of Endor when the Rebel Alliance successfully destroyed the Death Star II.
The story is unique in that you assume the roles of two pilots, one serving in the New Republic’s Vanguard Squadron, and the other that fights for the Galactic Empire’s Titan Squadron. While not much else is known right now, we do know that there will be some cameo appearances from familiar faces in the Star Wars galaxy.
5v5 multiplayer space battles
In addition to an all-new and original single player story, Star Wars: Squadrons will feature a 5v5 multiplayer mode. You’ll be able to step into iconic starfighters from both Imperial and New Republic fleets. Before heading out for battle, players will plan out their attacks in a briefing room.
Your goal is simple, take out your enemy’s flagship in Fleet Battles. However, in order to succeed, you’ll need to work with your teammates to take out as many of your opponents as possible. So far, EA has revealed that these Fleet Battles will span across known and never before seen locations including the shattered moon of Galitan and the gas giant of Yavin Prime.
Fans will be happy to know that there will be an abundance of gameplay and cosmetic customization options that are earned in game through gameplay. Furthermore, as you make your way up the ranks as a pilot, you’ll earn additional engines, weapons, shields, and hulls that will enhance the performance of your starfighter.
And, there are even cosmetic items that you’ll earn, which allow you to customize your cockpit, ship exterior and the appearance of your pilot. Oh, I saved the best bit of news for last. Star Wars: Squadrons will feature full cross-play support between PlayStation 4, Xbox One and PC. Yes! Moreover, PC and PSVR owners will be able to play Star Wars: Squadrons in VR. Cool!
