Many Canadians are looking at upgrading their laptops and televisions this fall. On the blog, we have been trying you find the right tech for your home with articles about the top laptops and the top televisions. We also have contests! Earlier this month we gave away some of the top laptops of the year. Now we are giving away two of the top televisions. Learn about the new Samsung TVs, then enter for a chance to win.

Why you should be looking at Samsung TVs in 2023

Have you looked at the range of TVs on display at a Best Buy store these days? I have. Impressive. Almost all of them are LED TVs, though there are a range of types of LED TVs. In the store your eyes will first be drawn to the stunning Samsung Frame TVs. We gave one of these away earlier this year on the blog. Then you’ll look at some of the other types of LEDs and, if you are like most people, you’ll be confused by the terms: OLED, QLED, and Neo QLED. All three are great. All three do some things better than other things. For example, OLEDs have the best blacks thanks to individual self-lighting pixels. QLED has the best brightness (great for bright rooms) thanks to the backlighting. Neo QLEDs are the best combination thanks to their arrays of mini-LED backlighting. Samsung QLED and Neo QLEDs have other advantages too including lower costs.

You can learn about both types of Samsung televisions on the blog. We recently asked Shelly, the blog Editor for home theatre, to review the two televisions that we are giving away in this contest. Read her review of the new Samsung Q70C 4K UHD HDR QLED Smart TV and her review of the Samsung QN90C 4K UHD HDR Neo QLED Tizen Smart TV to learn more about each of the prizes we are giving away in this contest.

Why do you want a new TV this fall

Each year, the fall season seems to usher in not just pumpkin spice lattes and sweater weather, but also a surge in people bringing home new TV sets. Here are the top two reasons why:

1. New models and clearance sales

Television manufacturers often release new models in the spring and summer so by fall, these new releases have had time to be reviewed so you know which ones to buy. This not only help you make more informed decisions but also puts pressure on retailers to clear out older inventory to make room for the next generation of models. So whether you are looking for the best new TVs or last year’s models at significant savings, this is the best time of year.

2. Ready for holiday entertainment and sports events

The fall season is a precursor to major holidays like Thanksgiving, Christmas, and New Year’s Eve, all of which are synonymous with family gatherings and home entertainment. People anticipate needing a better or bigger TV to host movie marathons, special broadcasts, and, of course, holiday specials. Additionally, fall is a significant season for sports with the NFL, NBA, and NHL seasons bringing excitement into our homes. The lure of watching big games and key matchups on a shiny new screen can be hard to resist.

Fall is a perfect storm of incentives; it’s the season not just for falling leaves but also for finding the perfect new TV for your home on television sets. And it’s the perfect time for us to have a contest giving two of the newest and best TVs away.

How to enter

Entering this contest is easy and you can in three different ways (once per method):

  1. In a comment below, tell us at least two reasons why you would like a new TV this fall, and what two shows are you most looking forward to watching if you win this contest.
  2. In a comment beneath Shelly’s review of the Q70C, tell us one thing you learned about that television from Shelly’s review, and let us know what your ideal TV size would be for your home.
  3. In a comment beneath Shelly’s review of the QN90C, tell us how many hours of TV get watched in your home, and one thing that you learned about this television from Shelly’s review.

What you can win

At the end of this contest, we will randomly draw two winners. One will receive the Samsung QN90C TV that Shelly reviewed and the other will receive the Samsung Q70C TV that Shelly reviewed.

This contest runs from Sept 15th to Oct 1st.

Remember you can enter in three different ways. You might also want to tell your friends about this contest. As I said, this is the time of year when many people get a new TV, and some of your friends may be very happy to learn about the new Samsung TVs and have a chance to win one too.

  1. We have a really large 50 inch that is heavy and actually ugly that needs replacing so a new tv would be perfect. We would watch the voice and cops.

  2. I’d like a new TV this fall because my current one (made in May of 2007! according to a sticker) often needs to be unplugged and plugged back in for it to work, and I’d like some of the new features that have come out since. The two shows I’m most looking forward to watching are Dark Winds and Transplant.

  3. I desperately need a new TV for my bedroom as mine is crap!! I can’t wait to watch The Witcher & The Ozarks as well as soooo many of the other great series out right now that i haven’t seen. My TV keeps kicking me out repeatedly and it’s very frustrating.

  4. I would love a bigger screen tv because my small one is getting harder for me to see as my sight deteriorates.
I love watching Master Chef Canada and all the cooking shows and also The Voice so a new bigger tv would be so great.

  5. I would like a new TV this fall because I only have a 40 inch TV in the basement and it is not a smart TV. Once I have a larger TV in the basement, I would be able to rearrange the furniture in a way to make it possible to sit near the gas fireplace in the winter and get cozy to watch TV.

The shows I look forward to watching are The Good Doctor and The Rookie.

  6. My old TV has terrible contrast and I can’t make out what is going on if there is a a darker scene. It also is a little small for my space. If I was lucky enough to win this new TV I would really enjoy watching “Dancing With the Stars” and “Survivor”

  7. I am in the market for a new 4K television to upgrade from my current 55-inch 1080p TV. The primary purpose of this new TV will be to enhance my viewing experience of the following shows:
    1) Survivor
    2) Amazing race

  8. I would love a new tv for when I move out on my own to take with me as the tv I use now is my parents. I also I believe this tv has a better picture and sound than my current tv! I really want the new season of Squid Games to come out and the new Exorcist Believer looks insane…

  9. I would like a new tv that is larger and has a clearer picture.. I I’m looking forward to watch Alone (season 10) and a the ending of Yellowstone.

  10. I would like a new TV because it would be nice to have a second TV in the home and not have to fight over who gets to watch what. Then I would be able to watch the shows I enjoy in peace, including The Witcher and Squid Game sequel.

  11. I would love to have new television soon, who wouldn’t? Reasoning though – we are re-doing our living room, and have a nice empty space that would be perfect for a new TV; plus, that would give the adults some place to watch television earlier in the evening, and the younger ones could have the rec room to themselves for awhile – win-win! A couple of shows I am looking forward to, and I think might show off these televisions well – the Last of Us, and Foundation – lots of great colour and effects that you really want a great screen for. And I am behind on watching!

  12. I would watch movies with my kids and maybe catch up on my Disney + binging, I’m currently planning to watch Star Wars: Andor the new ninja turtles movie.

  13. I would like a new TV because it would have a clearer picture quality and we don’t currently have a TV in the bedroom so a new Samsung TV would be great to watch there. The two shows I’m looking forward to watching if I win the contest are NHL games and Survivor.

  14. I would like to upgrade one of our TV and add a TV to a room in the house. We would watch the new Futurama series and Star Trek: Strange New Worlds on our new TV.

  15. The TV in my bedroom is 13 years old now and it’s only 780p. Definitely time to upgrade. With the writers strike it’s going to be tough watching new shows. I’m hoping Vikings Valhalla is not delayed too long and Yellowstone.

  16. I’d love to win a new TV since I would like to have a TV in my kitchen and my other TV is 15 years old!!! Two shows I would watch would be Master Chef Canada and So Help Me Todd!!!

  17. My current tv is old and not very energy effecient and my son’s wants a new tv to better run his playstation. I would watch Flames Games and the new Marvels movie coming out in the fall.

  18. I need to upgrade my TV to a new model, and I could use a new monitor for my PC setup, so either would be a great use for this.

  19. Our old tv is a Sony from 2013 and we need a new one. No 4K. No smart functions. My kids would love watching cartoons and I would watch football.

From the review this tv looks amazing! LED smart tv would be ideal. 50-70 inches would fit.

  20. I would love a new TV as mine is quite small and old, so a larger ad more clear picture would be great!

I am looking forward to watching The Handmaid’s Tale and Yellowstone this fall.

  21. I would like a new TV this fall since our TV can only do 720p and does have smart functions. Looking forward to watch NBA and NHL on 4K if I win the Samsung QLED

  22. We love watching Live Music Concerts and a new TV would enhance our enjoyment with clear picture and great sound!

  23. I would like a new tv because winter is coming and that means more indoor time. Also, I don’t have a tv… the old one busted. A new one would be most welcome. I don’t really watch tv shows though, only movies. I’m looking forward to seeing the new Indiana Jones flick when it comes out on dvd and also the latest Fast and Furious flick.

  24. I would like a new TV for a clearer picture and larger size.
I enjoy watching British shows and my husband likes the hockey games.

  25. I would like a new TV this fall as mine is dated on not very bright at all during the day with sunlight. I am looking forward to watching the Witcher as well as The last of Us.

  26. Need a new television as our Sony died recently. Looking forward to watching Night Court & the new season of Cheers.

  27. I would love a new TV because everyone who comes to our house laughs at how small our main TV is 😉 I usually spent my time watching old horror movies!

  28. Our TV is from 2008 and only 40 inches so an upgrade would be nice.

Would love to watch hockey this fall and Star Wars Ahsoka

  29. Any thing would be an upgrade from my 48 in tv. A top of the line tv like this would be awesome. I would look forward to watching the oilers games, and the Grey Cup.

  30. I would like a new TV this fall to set up a proper TV/family room in our new-to-us house.

I’m looking forward to watching shows like Ragnarok and Derry Girls on tv

  31. I would like a new TV this fall so that my family can gather and share time together when it’s chilly outside and because it’s one of the great connections with teenagers that are hard to come by, not only is it good for shows but also listening to music with them. We are looking forward to watching the Oak island TV series something we are all hooked on and Survivor. We make some great memories watching these shows together!

  32. First reason is my old tv has developed a strip of lines on the side that are getting pretty bad and the second reason is the new technology that these tv’s have is very impressive and I’d like to see how they look. The two shows I’ll be watching are 90 day and some street outlaws.

  33. i want and need a new tv, for my RCA is quite dated and does not always give a good picture to watch. i enjoy watching animal rescues shows like HOPE FOR WILDLIFE, and ALASKA ANIMAL RESCUE.

  34. Two reasons: Being a senior means income isn’t there to afford a large screen TV as can barely see our small one and secondly, all those wires that we trip over because the local TV providers won’t provide fiber services in our area. Favourite shows: House Hunters International and Escape to the Chateau DIY

  35. Id like a new TV since mine is quite old. It’s led, but from back when 720p was still a thing. It limits quality viewing compared to anything these days. I’m looking forward to Krapopolis coming to a local TV station this weekend. When Grand Tourismo comes out on video, I’m looking forward to seeing that.

  36. J’aimerais avoir un téléviseur moderne, qui soit également intelligent, et je prévois de regarder The Great Canadian Baking Show et The Voice.

  37. Right now my two reasons are (1) we have to leave the TV turned on otherwise it takes upwards of 32 hours of working through the reboot cycle for our TV to actually turn on, and (2) there are multiple lines running across the screen interrupting the picture quality.

This fall will be all about watching football and (hopefully) another season of “House of the Dragon” …?

  38. I would love a new TV because mine is quite old and has some dead pixels, and I always want to keep up to date with the latest in high end display technology. I would most look forward to watching my favourite shows: Spartacus: Blood and Sand, and WestWorld.

  39. Two reasons for a new tv are bigger but better picture for staying when gems start to increase this fall/ winter.

The Voice and Wilderness are two shows for me to see this Fall.

  40. As I use my gaming monitors for TV as well as gaming, either one would be a huge upgrade via resolution and overall size. It would be incredible to watch One Piece and Loki Season 2 on either one of these fantastic TV’s.

  41. I would like to have a modern tv, that is also smart, and plan to watch The Great Canadian Baking Show, and The Voice.

  42. I actually don’t have a TV in my living room since my old one broke. The one I have now in my bedroom is small and not smart and the sound is starting to go. So the addition of a new bigger TV would be nice. My family could watch Survivor and Amazing Race together in the living room.
