It can be tricky to find a fit with wireless earbud headphones, but JBL has had a pretty good run with them over the last couple years. There latest pair is a partnership with Under Armour, and it’s their best design yet. I had the chance to try out these JBL Under Armour Flash In-ear Sound Isolating Truly Wireless Earbuds for a few weeks, and I was delighted with the results. My experience with wireless headphones has always been hit and miss, and I always thought it was because of my ears. I was proven wrong, because I’ve now discovered that there is hope out there for any ear.Â
JBL Under Armour Truly Wireless Headphones review
Packaging, Charging Case, and More
Revealed inside the box are the headphones, which come readily charged in a protective sport charging case. The case is sleek and smooth and comes with a fabric handle. It pushes open on the side to reveal the JBL headphones, which snap in magnetically, ensuring they’re going to stay put even if you throw the charging case in your bag and go about your day. Â
There are also two smaller boxes on the sides, which are full of the headphone’s extras. Included are two additional sizes of earbuds, two extra silicone hardware covers, and a charging cord. Underneath is a small folder, the contents of which are a quickstart guide, a safety sheet and a warranty card.
JBL Under Armour Flash in Ear Truly Wireless Headphones: Fit and Design
It goes without saying that going wireless makes everything you do easier. We’ve come a long way from getting tangled into our headphones and spending 10 minutes undoing knots on knots, on knots. Still, a pair of truly wireless earbuds took a bit of trial and error. The anxiety of wearing something that can fall out, fall into a ditch, and disappear forever is real, but these JBLs stay put. I’ve now worn them to the gym, on runs, on a plane, on public transit and they’ve never once fallen out.
They come equipped with 3 different sizes of eartips, and the medium fit my ears like a glove. The silicone is soft and comfortable, but sturdy enough that they don’t slip out when making fast movements. They’re not only comfortable to the point that you feel like music just follows you, but they also come with a number of convenient features that make the experience that much better.
Features: JBL Under Armour Wireless Headphones
The Sport Flex Fit ear tips ensure a completely secure fit, even during rigorous training. These earbuds are IPX7-rated for sweat-and-water durability. This was the selling point for me, since I’m always on the hunt for headphones I can comfortably work out with, but everything else that came with it has now made going back to anything else impossible. Both headphones instantly pair with each other, and the connection is completely balanced, clear and seamless. They feature physical buttons on each earphone, which makes it so easy to switch settings without having to dig out your device.Â
Controlling JBL Under Armour Truly Wireless Headphones
Using the buttons is simple, you just have to tap once or twice or make commands, or hold them down to turn them off. The right ear controls playback so you can skip songs, you can also summon your smartphone’s voice command. The left ear controls the bionic hearing, which makes it easy to quickly turn off or down your music so you can hear your surroundings using TalkThru technology.Â
They have up to 5 hours of wireless talk time and a 10 meter range, which makes it easy to phone calls while doing anything. The connectivity and audio is as pure as it gets, never once did they disconnect or sound fuzzy. Never during a phone call did I experience a delay or muffled sounds. They even come included with a one year manufacturer warranty.Â
Audio quality: JBL Under Armour Truly Wireless Headphones
The audio quality was another selling point for me. Earbuds can sometimes lack any bass, but JBL’s sound is tuned for sport to pump it out like it’s nobody’s business. This and the sound isolation made my workouts that much more enjoyable. They also feature Ambient Aware technology, which provides immersive audio, while still increasing ambient sound so you can stay alert to your surroundings.Â
Battery Life
The battery life on these headphones is excellent, I had them in very frequently over 7 consecutive days, and only needed to plug them in once. The Lithium-ion battery provides five hours of listening time per charge. Plus, the aluminum charging case offers an additional 20 hours of play time, so if you carry the case around you’ll be set for days.Â
Verdict: JBL Under Armour Truly Wireless HeadphonesÂ
JBL has hit the nail on the head with the JBL Under Armour Truly Wireless Headphones. After using 3 different types of wireless headphones in the past couple years, I can say I’ve finally found my match. This make of headphones is as good as it gets for me. They’re sleek in style, they have great audio, they’re comfortable, they have a great battery life, and excellent features. What more could you ask for?
These look pretty cool. It seems like every week Best Buy features a new review for wireless headphones. I have so many ideas for when I am ready to upgrade.
Thanks for the review.
