Great toys hold a special place in our hearts. They create great experiences at the time we play with them. They also leave a treasured memory that we can look back on and smile as we get older. The coolest toys do something a little extra. Really cool toys unite a generation, and sometimes multiple generations. Many of the hottest toys these days are tech toys: robots, drones etc. Which tech toy of 2016 do you think will make the biggest impression in a child’s life, or in your life? Just tell us what you think the coolest toy of 2016 is and you might win a huge trove of the newest toys from Best Buy.

There are over $12000 in toys available to be won!

bb8Every year new toys are released that have the potential to become a child’s special treasure. Best Buy carries many of these. Best Buy also has the greatest selection of tech toys. Last year I fell in love with the Sphero BB-8 App-enabled  Droid. It’s the kind of toy that will resonate in a person’s memories for decades.

(Four of the new special edition version of this droid are included in this contest’s prizes!)

You may find it difficult to decide what the coolest toy is this year. It’s not always easy to predict what will be the best toy in a given year, but really there are no wrong answers. For example, I asked my wife which tech toy she remembers as having been really cool when she was young and her answer, the Fisher Price parking garage (shown below), really surprised me! Note that Best Buy carries a Melissa & Doug version of this parking garage. I too had one of those vintage Fisher Price garages when I was young and played with it incessantly. I hadn’t thought about that toy in many years, but just the mention of it brought back a ton of great memories.

Kids nowadays may not view a parking garage as a tech toy given the options that exist. The prizes in this contest contain many of the best tech toys available in 2016. We have divided the more than $12000 in prizes into 6 toys bundles:

  1. My favourite tech toy that I received as a kid was an original Nintendo NES system. I remember multiple family members chipping in to get this for me for Christmas. They wrapped the gift in trick wrapping and told me it was clothing, lol. I was very surprised when I opened the box!

  2. The coolest tech toy is the Parrot Bebop Quadcopter drone. The best tech toy I received as a kid was an Atari lol

  3. I figure one if the coolest toys this year would be the drones… they seem to becoming more and more popular every year, especially the phantom 4 drone with the camera… nothing cooler to be able to fly and spy… my little guy would love it or any drone to reel u the truth !!

  4. Hmm we were not very tech with toys in the sixties in South America, the only thing that comes to my mind was a doll that could talk.

  5. I don’t remember getting any tech toys as a child. I don’t remember anyone receiving any tech toys…Guess I’m dating myself.

  6. New toy would be Star Wars droid I got an Atari when younger with 4 children I don’t know how my parents did it but Christmas was always exciting

  7. The coolest toy i received growing up was a talking view master. It is a view master with one added feature. It spoke and told a story with each new frame you went to. I would spend hours looking at the picture and listening to the story unfold with each new frame in the view master. After 40 years I still have it and it still works like the day i got it. When I show or tell others about this one of a kind toy they are amazed and want to see and use it. It made me smile to watch other people play with it. It was like watching a excited kid who just received this toy for Christmas. I am sure i looked and acted the same on that Christmas Day so long ago as i unwrapped this amazing toy. I have yet come across another person who knew what i was talking about. I am so surprised at how few have ever heard of this amazing toy. It is truly my Favorite most favorite toy i received as a kid growing up.

  8. I think the Fisher-Price Think & Learn Code-A-Pillar is the coolest tech toy available at Best Buy in 2016. It’s like computer programming for toddlers. Love it.

  9. DJI Phantom 4 Quadcopter Drone with Camera, Controller & Battery – Ready-to-Fly – White looks to be coolest.

  10. The coolest tech toy I received when I was younger was an electronics kit that allowed me to build my own radio (plus other items) by wiring the circuitry together myself.

  11. I think the Wowwee CODER MiP is an incredible idea. As a software developer myself, I love the idea of introducing the next generation to coding at such a young age!

  12. Both I and my grandkids think that the Sphero BB-8 App-Enabled Droid is the coolest. I think I could even convince them to let me play with it!

  13. Wow….I am really going to show my age here! I remember getting a transistor radio one Christmas when I was a teenager. Before that, the most tech toy I had ever received was a walking doll.

  14. My most favourite tech toy would be the Colege Gemini system my sister & I received for Christmas in 1983.
    It was hours of fun!

  15. I think the Code-A-Pillar looks awesome! Fun and educational. Would love to win it for my 1 1/2 year old daughter.
