There will come a day when all domestic tasks will be discussed alongside statements like “we used to walk 10 kilometers to school in the snow, uphill ….” For example, in the not too distant future you’ll see the old style of vacuum in museums and have to explain to little children what they were used for. Times are changing thanks to the innovative technology produced by iRobot.
iRobot has been making robotic domestic servants for about 25 years now. Their latest wonder, the Roomba 980, is one giant leap toward space age vacuuming efficiency for your home. You don’t “do” vacuuming with the Roomba 980, it does the vacuuming—independently. You tell it to vacuum the floors and it does. You can even tell it to vacuum the floors on Wednesday and Fridays, and it will remember. It remembers a lot of things: the layout of your home, the areas it has already vacuumed and more. It has sophisticated sensors that allow it to map out a floor of your home for incredible vacuuming efficiency.
Here are just a few of its cool features:
- iAdapt 2.0 Navigation: while it follows a pattern to clean a whole level of your home, its sensors will enable it to negotiate around objects , stairs and drop-offs; it adapts its pattern to your home
- iRobot HOME app: forgot to vacuum? No problem. While you are still at the office you can use your smartphone to tell the Roomba 980 to start cleaning.
- Aeroforce cleaning system: it will automatically detect when it changes from a floor surface to carpet and boost the suction to provide the cleaner power needed to capture the dirt hidden in carpet fibers
- Recharge and Resume: (this amazes me!) when the Roomba detects that its battery is getting low, it will return to its charging station, and once its battery is charged it will go back to where it left off cleaning and continue.
I can’t wait until iRobot comes out with the laundry robot and the dishes robot. Until then we can enjoy the vacuuming robot. One lucky person may even win one from Best Buy.

My favouite feature is the iRobot Home App and my favouite robot is R2D2 of course!!!
Recharge and Resume is my favorite feature, I like that I wouldn’t have to hunt it down when it needs to recharge.
iAdapt Navigation is my favourite feature! Love how it can sense where it’s been and clean around objects! My favourite robot is Rosie from the Jetsons!! Futuristic just like the Roomba!
My favorite TV robot was Rosie from the Jetsons. She was a very underated character.
I would LOVE to put the Roomba to work while I was at work!!

Fave robot other than Roomba?? Number 5 aka Johnny Five from Short Circuit!
Recharge and Resume option is great for a large space
I love that I could program both the area and schedule for cleaning AND control it from my phone if I’m too tired to get up. I have 2 dogs and a cat that I’ve rescued over the years and we are expecting our first baby in the spring… I would love to have one less thing (pet hair) to worry about when the day comes.
“Robot” from Lost in Space is my first favorite
My favorite robot!
The ‘iAdapt 2.0 Navigation’ so you don’t have to move out of it’s way everytime.
The feature with control from your smart phone is what grabs my attention!
My favorite feature is Recharge and Resume. I think it would be great not having to worry about low batteries and having to recharge forever. Thanks for a great contest, awesome prize and being a super company!
Do transformers count as robots? That’s what get my vote!

Recharge and resume is the best feature.
We have two Golden Retriever so I like that it follows a pattern to clean a whole level of your home, and that its sensors will enable it to negotiate around objects , stairs and drop-offs; it adapts its pattern to your home. LOVE IT! But have no money to actually buy one.
I also love Rosie from the Jetsons.
Recharge and resume would have to be my favourite feature!
My fav TV robot was Rosie from the Jetsons.

My favorite robot from the movies is the original Terminator.
Oh – and my favorite robot currently is the BB-8 from the new Star Wars movie!! Maybe you should consider doing another Star Wars giveaway closer to Episode 7’s release date
I have 3 cats and 2 Roomba Pet Series to ride and they don’t share, so they’re always fighting about who gets to ride the Roomba. Having 3 Roombas will obviously allow all 3 cats to ride while the floors are vaccuumed and allow my dog to direct traffic and keep the peace. I’m sure you can imagine the kind of mess 3 cats and a dog make.
Best feature is Recharge and Resume. I love that Roomba goes back and finishes the job he has started once he is charged up again
I love the fact that you can control the robot using your smartphone, so you can use it even when you’re not at home.
My favourite robot from the movies is R2-D2!
