Create a seamless and energy-efficient smart home experience

The Google Nest smart thermostat is the ultimate tool for home automation. It learns your schedule and temperature preferences and adjusts the temperature of your home accordingly. You can also control it remotely using the Nest app, so you can ensure your home is always at the perfect temperature, no matter where you are. Instead of an always-on thermostat, you have one that intelligently adjusts the temperature in your home, saving you money every day.

Philips Hue A19 LED Light BulbAnd when you pair the Google Nest smart thermostat with Philips Hue LED light bulbs, you can take your energy savings to the next level. These bulbs can be controlled with the Philips Hue app or with most voice assistants, allowing you to turn them on and off or change their brightness and colour conveniently from anywhere. Schedule the lights to automatically go on only when needed and off when not needed. And because they’re LED bulbs, they’re energy-efficient and long-lasting, saving you money on your electricity bills.

By using less energy, you’re reducing the amount of carbon emissions released into the atmosphere, which means you’re doing your part to combat climate change. Here are some more tips to help you make a positive impact:

  1. Upgrade to energy-efficient appliances

One of the easiest ways to reduce your energy consumption is by upgrading to energy-efficient appliances. Look for appliances with the ENERGY STAR label, which means they meet strict efficiency guidelines set by the Environmental Protection Agency. These appliances use less energy and can save you money on your energy bills over time. Some of the most common appliances to upgrade include refrigerators, washing machines, and dishwashers.

  1. Consider Refurbished Products

If you’re looking to upgrade your home’s appliances or electronics, consider purchasing refurbished products. Best Buy has a huge selection of pre-owned devices that have been inspected, repaired, and restored to their original condition. Not only are these products often more affordable than new ones, but they also help reduce electronic waste by giving products a second life.

  1. Use Recycling Programs

Recycling programs ensure that electronic waste is disposed of properly, reducing its impact on the environment. Best Buy’s recycling program is free for all and accepts a wide range of electronics, from cell phones to appliances.

  1. Take Advantage of Repair Services

Instead of throwing away broken appliances or electronics, consider repairing them. Repair services can help reduce electronic waste. Best Buy’s Geek Squad offers a variety of repair services, from fixing cracked smartphone screens to repairing washing machines.

  1. Consider Trade-In Programs

Trade-in programs allow you to receive credit towards new purchases in exchange for your old devices. Best Buy’s trade-in program accepts a wide range of electronics, including smartphones, tablets, and gaming consoles. Not only does this program help reduce electronic waste, but it also helps make new purchases more affordable.

I hope that these tips have inspired you. This Earth Day, take the first step towards changing your lifestyle, reducing your carbon footprint, and making your home smarter and more sustainable. 1. My favourite Smart Home device is my LED light bulbs as they’re energy-efficient and long-lasting. They save money on my electricity bill and they last a long time. I also have energy efficient appliances. And I have always repaired rather than disposed of my appliances. This not only saves money, but just as important, if not more so, prevents more environmental waste.

  2. I like having a connected doorbell, and it can make it easier for visitors, delivery people. This device records your front step in 1080p HD video, allows for remote communication between you and your potential visitor, and provides motion sensor tech so you always know what’s going on in front of your home. A little pricey but I am an older woman and had no difficulty installing this myself

  3. My favourite smart home device is our smart plugs. So easy to turn off when not in use and save on energy.

  4. Another term for Smart Home for me would be Home Automation. I think the industry is still working towards many of these devices actually being “smart” and the automation is still to difficult for the average user to setup anything meaningful.

For the most part it is more of a “Hands Free home” than an Smart or Automated home.

  5. Favorite device for saving energy is my Caseta lightswitches. Kid’s use to (and still do) leave lights on in the basement and bathrooms, but now they all shut off at a certain time of the day, and the basement shuts off after 30 minutes of no motion.

  6. Instead of an always-on thermostat, you have one that intelligently adjusts the temperature in your home, saving you money every day.

  8. “Home Automation” sounds as smart as Smart Home !

I think the easiest product to set up would really depend on the app and how the UI is created if it is easy to follow. Google products have always been very straightforward !

  9. My favourite smart home device is our smart plugs because they are easy to turn off when not in use & save energy. I like the turn “robot home” because it sounds fun.

  10. The smart home products that are the easiest to set up are the Phillip hue bulbs.
All you have to do is switch out your regular bulb with a Phillip Hue. Then follow easy set up instructions using your smart device or control lights with your google assistant.

  11. Phillips Hue bulbs are awesome, they save money on electricity, plus it’s home automation as you control via app or voice with a google assistant.

Another term I would use for a “smart home” is Home Automation.

  16. I’d love the nest thermostat since it will help with temperature regulation when no one is home.

  17. The robotic home seems perfect for my family. I’m only 18 but my family hasn’t replaced so many of our appliances since the house was built. This seems like the future of technology and it sounds awesome from reading this!
