Like any good watch, this collection of Bulova watches is simultaneously both timeless and timely. Bulova has the uncanny ability of putting out piece after piece that looks exactly right in the moment, in styles that will endure for decades. It’s a trait that serves as the cornerstone for any great watch brand, and as one of those on the forefront of the industry, Bulova has that down pat.
Founded in New York in 1875, Bulova is your granddad’s watch. You’ve pulled it out of storage after all these years, and it still works. The style still looks super sharp; the metal links are still sparkling. It’s that watch, even after all these years.
Stylish Bulova watches for womenÂ
When it comes to styling for myself, I wear a lot of thin leather watch bands. For the most part, I like to pick something in a neutral tone (brown, camel, or beige) in a matte finish – a good suede always sits nicely. Simple, toned-down watches work well for my minimalist aesthetic because I’m still a student: I wear a lot of white and black, and typically stick to business casual outfits.
But what I tend to wear isn’t the same as what I would love to be able to pull off. The Bulova Crystal 35mm Women’s Dress Watch with Swarovski Crystals looks a lot like–dare I say it?–my dream watch. It’s beautiful; simple and classy, but it reeks of a certain style of grandeur that only something encrusted in either diamonds or crystals can achieve.
The Crystal 35mm is finished in a beautiful gold tone, with Swarovski crystals on the dial and bezel. Its time is controlled by Japanese Quartz movement, with a beautiful mother of pearl dial – and unlike watches from your grandparents’ days, it’s water resistant to 30 metres.
It’s the kind of watch that I will likely never feel “refined enough” to pull off, but it’s a beautiful piece. (One, perhaps, that it’s time enough for me to wear already!)Â
Another classic Bulova watch is the Bulova 34mm Women’s Dress Watch with Swarovski Crystals. It’s a similar style, with Swarovski crystals on the bezel and markers, and Japanese Quartz movement to keep it running on time. The 34mm is very slightly smaller, in a silver finish that will sit well on cooler skintones – with discreet rose gold accents to keep things fresh. It’s slimmer and a little less ostentatious than the gold 35mm, and would fit beautifully with an outfit for workplace wear.
Bulova watches that step out of timeÂ
Men’s watches always have a certain dignified air to them, and there’s nothing like one with a classic leather band. While smaller watch companies are producing products with minimalist leather bands in 2018, Bulova sticks to the classics.
Though the three chronograph styles featured in this section each have a unique “look,” the beauty of a more traditional watch design with a leather band is that they can be classed up when needed. While you’ll want to reach for a bracelet-style band for a formal event, these simple styles would look great on your wrist while taking the kids out to the park, grabbing groceries, or sitting down to a quick midday meeting.
This Bulova 42mm Men’s Chronograph Dress Watch is the most traditional of the bunch, with a brown leather band and a water resistant case. The watch face features a black dial with rose gold hands, markers, and crown pushers, adding functionality with its chronograph details. (Personally, I think the real beauty in a modern chronograph is purely aesthetic. Who really times themselves on their watches anymore? And what are you timing if you can comfortably do it while wearing a leather watch band?)
Sleek Bulova dress watches for menÂ
Just like with women’s watches, my favourite men’s watches are always the dress watches with the metal bracelets. The Bulova 43mm Men’s Chronograph Dress Watch is nice and simple, but the slightly bolder Bulova 45mm Men’s Dress Watch stands out as the obvious first choice. It’s simple and not too big, with an almost scale-like bracelet. The watch face is presented in a classic, lustrous blue, with a unique crown protector for those who are hard on their objects.
This Bulova watch features luminous hands and a red second hand. Its bracelet is made from a classic stainless steel, and it’s water resistant – to a whopping 100 metres. While it’s never a good idea to get your watch wet on the regular (it can lead to rust and wear if it isn’t cleaned properly), that means never having to worry about your watch if you take it to the beach or on a cruise.
In a similar category, there’s the Bulova Classic 42mm Men’s Dress Watch – this time in black. Its design is super sleek–very Christopher Nolan’s Batman–with an almost utilitarian bracelet. It’s made with a black IP stainless steel case, and its black dial is patterned to look ridged at an angle perpendicular to the lines of the bracelet.
The detailed face of the Classic 42mm (from Bulova’s Classic Dress Collection) features dials to tell you the day, date, and 24-hour time. It’s water resistant to 30 metres, and its bracelet is held tightly on your wrist with a double-press deployment closure.
I can’t wear this watch to the poolside at a fancy resort (my wrists are way too small), but someone out there needs to. It’s perfect for it!
Bulova watches for something different
Finally, Bulova offers two designs that might suit the slightly more adventurous. For her, the Bulova 30mm Women’s Analog Dress Watch with Swarovski Crystals & Diamonds features a unique, anti-reflective mother of pearl dial and 52 hand-set Swarovski crystals. It’s dressy, but with a serious “mom vibe”: it features two little hearts coming off of the minutes hand, making it a great gift for the mom of the year who never wants to be too far from what she holds dear.
For him, there’s the Bulova 43mm Men’s Chronograph Dress Watch – which is just, well, a little odd. It features a silicone strap that you’d expect from a fitness tracker, luminescent hands, and water resistance up to 100 metres. If your dad is a weird guy with a square job, this one might just set his heart a-ticking.
