What feels better than a clean house? There’s only one thing: the feeling of a clean house that you didn’t have to lift a finger for. That’s what you achieve every time you use the iRobot Braava Jet m6.

iRobot products are a great way to introduce a little luxury into your home life. Sleek and automatic, they function like an in-house cleaning service that you can “hire” as often as you’d like. The m6 dry sweeps and wet mops like a champ, cutting a wide berth around your delicate rugs and perilous staircases.

What’s in the box of the iRobot m6?

Having reviewed the iRobot Roomba i3+ very recently, I was surprised and impressed by how much you get in the box of the iRobot m6. Not only does the Braava Jet m6 come with a charging station, cord, and drip tray, but you also get a sample of floor cleaning solution, two single-use wet mopping pads, two single-use dry sweeping pads, and one washable wet mopping pad. Unfortunately, iRobot devices only work with their own iRobot cleaning pads, which can be limiting. The underside of the mop has a reader to identify what kind of pad you’re using, but it doesn’t have to be wasteful: the washable pads can be used many times, and you can even re-use single-use pads for small jobs.

One important thing that I found while testing out the Braava Jet Hard Floor Cleaning Solution is that it doesn’t foam. I’ve had trouble in the past with floor cleaners being too foamy, too scented, or too sticky, but the Braava Jet solution worked like a charm. It got my floors nice and clean with no residue.

Just out of curiosity, however, I also tested the Braava Jet with no cleaning solution, and was surprised to find that it worked just as well. The m6 did a great job of collecting dust and grime (and cat hair) off of my floors with just water. You can also use dry cleaning pads with the iRobot m6, but I’m partial to a damp option when possible—I find it does a better job of getting everything off of the floors in really dusty areas, like underneath the bed.

My favourite iRobot Braava Jet m6 features

There were a couple of things about the iRobot Braava Jet that I liked a lot more than the iRobot Roomba i3+. For starters, it’s quieter—a lot quieter. I know that robot vacuums are (and have to be) louder than robot mops, but what I didn’t expect when I tried my first iRobot product was how long it takes a robot vacuum to complete its job. My house is on the smaller side for the prairies (about 2000 sq ft including the basement), and both the Braava and Roomba products I tried took 90-150 minutes to finish each floor of my house using their multiple pass method. That’s easily four hours to clean a small bungalow!

While I love that robot vacuums can get all the pet hair out of my carpets, the Braava Jet m6’s ability to dry sweep and wet mop my floors made it the clear winner for me. This little robot mop works meticulously and slowly in precise rows, but it’s extremely quiet. Its rubber wheels and spray function are no louder than the hum of the fridge. When you pair that with the smart maps used in iRobot’s i Series vacuums and Jet m6 mop, you’re left with a device that cleans on your schedule, learns the layout of your home, and can be taught to stay out of areas where you know pet bowls or kids’ toys will be lying on the floor.

Plus, the smartphone integration of the iRobot m6 works just as well as its mopping functions. It’s highly responsive and easy to set up, and works with Google Home or Amazon Alexa for voice control.

Pair the iRobot Braava Jet m6 with an i Series vacuum

Another cool feature in the iRobot smartphone app is that you can connect different devices for the same house. Your i Series iRobot vacuum can be set on the same schedule as your Braava Jet m6 using Imprint Link Technology to minimize the overall cleaning time in your home. The m6 will simply follow behind to mop in areas that have already been vacuumed, leaving you with sparkling floors just as you finish your Sunday afternoon chores, or when you get home from work.

The iRobot app also has options to suggest cleaning schedules for you based on your usage history. I’m fond of this as an option for someone who struggles to manage their schedule: after the first few weeks, your robot assistant can manage it for you! It can vacuum on a suggested schedule throughout the week, or be set up to only vacuum when you’re out of the house for the most seamless clean you’ve ever experienced. The app will even recommend extra cleanings on a seasonal basis, so that you can keep the allergen count down in your home without having to worry about what day of the year it is.

My experience with the iRobot Braava Jet

I loved having the iRobot Braava Jet m6 at my beck and call. It makes it so simple and easy to get my floors clean. While it can’t clean rugs or staircases, the Braava Jet line fits nicely underneath furniture that can be hard to vacuum under, quickly sweeping up allergens that had gone untouched under my bed for months.

The Braava Jet also had less difficulty getting around my home than the iRobot vacuums seem to, as it stays far away from my high-pile rugs. Paired with a much quieter cleaning experience and the ability to charge partway through a cleaning cycle and remember its original place, it really is an enjoyable little robot cleaner. It’s not completely seamless, of course—it got a little tangled up in my 10-foot charging cord, for instance, when I left it on the floor by mistake—but it’s very close to it.

There are some chores that you can’t get a robot to do for you (yet), like wiping your countertops and cleaning your mirrors. For the ones that you can, however, devices like robot vacuums and mops are a great way to cut down on household dirt and allergens while creating more time in your day. Why not spend it with your loved ones, or pick up a cool new hobby?
