The Dyson V11 Absolute Pro Cordless Stick Vacuum is shown cleaning a hardwood floor in a white room. It makes a clean sweep through the dust and debris on the floor, leaving nothing behind it.I like doing chores. I know that sounds weird but it’s true. Washing dishes, tidying up, and setting things right are small joys I get to experience daily. When I saw the Dyson V11 Absolute Pro Cordless Stick Vacuum, I couldn’t help but think that it’d make doing chores even more fun. Or, for many people, make doing chores fun for the first time. Seem like a big challenge for a vacuum cleaner? Read on to find out what makes this Dyson stick vacuum so cool and find out how to enter for your chance to win one.

The little pleasures of housework

Marie Kondo kicked off a trend for tidy spaces that has only grown since. Kondo was more focused on stuff: objects that people kept around that they did not use or need. I find a different but related joy in housework. Clearing away dirt and getting things back to their clean, unsullied state feels like a beautiful exercise in discipline and control.

It can feel pretty dis-empowering in day-to-day life to realize lots of things are out of your personal control. From the obvious, like the weather, to the frustrating, like someone choosing a seat next to you on the bus when the entire bus is empty, to the corporate, like that annoying way your boss chews at company lunches. After dealing with that all day I totally get the urge to come home and do nothing as soon as you kick off your shoes and flop onto the sofa to watch some TV.

But what I do after kicking off my shoes is take my containers from lunch and wash them in my kitchen sink. I finally get to have control over something, and in this case, it’s making sure that these dishes are clean and out of the way. Having an orderly, quiet domestic space is a form of service to oneself, I like to tell people. It’s where you remind yourself that you’re worth it. Selfcare through home-care, if you will.

So far, I haven’t quite figured out how to apply this philosophy to vacuuming, however. Vacuums have been, historically, rather bulky and loud to me. They weren’t something you could quickly pull out of storage and then use to tidy things up. Plus, with different floor types throughout most homes, it just seemed like a proposition best saved for a free Sunday afternoon.

But with the Dyson V11 Absolute Pro Cordless Stick Vacuum, it really is possible to enjoy tidying up everyday messes. I think it’s now a reality that you could clean your floors in the same way as quickly washing a dish or organizing some mail. Keep reading to learn about the neat features this vacuum contains to make that all happen.

The Dyson V11 Absolute Pro makes vacuuming its own bit of joy

A person vacuums from hardwood to carpet with the Dyson V11 Absolute Pro. They hold the vacuum in their right hand while their left hand points to to the LCD display which reads "Auto."

Effective vacuuming requires lots of powerful suction. That used to mean being tied down to a cord, but the Dyson V11 Absolute Pro is totally wireless and gets up to 60 minutes of battery life on a full charge. That means you can leave it charging somewhere convenient and pull it out as needed. And I do mean convenient, because with its striking purple and iron colour scheme, you’ll never want to hide this vacuum away to begin with.

This vacuum can also automatically detect different floor surfaces and adjust its suction mode accordingly, revving up on thick, plush pile carpet and slowing down on delicate hardwood floors all on its own. Plus, this feature helps extend battery life because it means you won’t accidentally leave the vacuum in high-power mode when you don’t need it to be. Now you won’t have to fret over different floor types, you can just keep cleaning from hardwood, to vinyl, to carpet and back again.

A person empties the Dyson V11 Absolute Pro's dust canister into a trashcan by holding the canister with their right ahnd swiping down the contents into the trashcan using the built-in lever on the canister with their left hand. The Dyson V11 Absolute Pro also comes with nifty attachments like the mini motorized tool that’s perfect for stairs, and the flexi-crevice tool to really reach into nooks and crannies in things like cozy recliner chairs to get all the crumbs out. And, once it’s time to empty this vacuum, you won’t have to worry about dropping dust and dirt back onto your clean floors because you can use the handy swiping tool built-in on the vacuum to sweep quickly and neatly everything from the vacuum’s canister right into the trashcan.

The Dyson V11 Absolute Pro even has an LCD screen to tell you what mode it’s running in and the status of the battery and filter. That way, you’ll know when it’s time to clean the filter, charge the battery, and more all at glance. No need to disassemble everything just to check if the filter is clean.

It may sound like I’m kind of giddy about these features; you’d be right. But remember how I said vacuuming can finally become another bit of satisfying daily housework, something else to take control of like washing dishes and tidying up? I really think all these features not only make that possible, they really drive home how cleaning up can be full of little moments of joy every day.
