Ah, September. The month when the fall line-up flood gates open wide and we’re treated to some of the most anticipated video games of the year. With so many incredible titles releasing this month it was too hard to pick my usual five or six favourites, so instead, I’m doing my top ten. Let’s have a look!

Metal Gear Solid V: The Phantom Pain
Release Date: September 1

The long wait is over, Metal Gear Solid V: The Phantom Pain has arrived! From revered game producer Hideo Kojima, this is the exciting conclusion to one of the greatest game series of all time. Picking up nine years after the events of Metal Gear Solid V: Ground Zeroes, you play as Snake (aka Big Boss) on a quest through Afghanistan to take down those who nearly took his life.

Mad Max
Release Date: September 1

Following this year’s successful film Max Max: Fury Road comes a brand new video game set in the same post-apocalyptic wasteland. Mad Max places you in a vast, open world without your supplies, weapons or Interceptor car where you must scavenge for supplies to survive. Fortunately, Max meets a companion named Chumbucket who is an expert mechanic, and together they create the Magnum Opus―a vehicle designed for destruction.

Nobunaga’s Ambition: Sphere of Influence

For over twenty years now I’ve been hooked on the Nobunaga’s Ambition historical war simulation series, and Sphere of Influence marks its finest entry yet. Take control of a powerful Daimyo during Japan’s “Warring States” period and unite the country under one clan using diplomacy and war. All the beauty and tragedy of this period is brought to life in vivid detail through realistic towns and terrain, dynamic battles, and gorgeous character portraits of Japanese historical figures.

Tearaway Unfolded

From the creators of LittleBigPlanet comes Tearaway Unfolded, an expanded retelling of the charming PS Vita title set in a gorgeous papercraft world. You play as a messenger called Atoi who sets out to deliver a top-secret message in world filled with secrets and surprises. Tearaway Unfolded features a broader story than the original, and uses the unique characteristics of the DualShock 4 controller to bring the game to life in new and exciting ways.

Super Mario Maker

I’ve had several chances to play Super Mario Maker now, and every time I get more excited! Unleash your creativity and design your own Super Mario levels using the touch screen on your Wii U GamePad. Using the intuitive design interface you can create unimaginable possibilities, like putting a Piranha Plant on Goomba’s head, or a Bullet Bill that shoots out a stream of coins. When you’ve finished your game world, upload it to the Nintendo Network and share your creation with the rest of the world!

EA’s perennial hockey series is back for another year with NHL 16. This year’s edition brings lots of thrilling new updates to both single-player and multiplayer modes, including 6 vs. 6 Online Team Play, an improved EA Sports Hockey League, the return of “Be a GM” mode, and “Be a Pro” mode where you can work your way up the ranks from CHL rookie to NHL superstar!

Forza Motorsport 6

Microsoft’s breathtaking racing series returns with Forza Motorsport 6. Race in over 450 carsincluding Ford’s performance vehicle line-up, the Ford GT, Shelby GT350 Mustang, and the F-150 Raptor―through 26 of the world’s most famous tracks. Graphics are presented in full 1080p resolution and gameplay runs at a blisteringly fast 60 frames per second. Realistic weather effects, including rain and track puddles, are introduced to the series for the first time and will put your driving skills to the test!

Destiny: The Taken King

Destiny: The Taken King, a major new expansion for Bungie’s smash hit first-person shooter series, is nearly here! The Taken King introduces one new subclass for each character class, expanding the powers of Hunters, Warlocks, and Titans. In addition to new story missions and sidequests, The Taken King expansion introduces new exotic weapons and armour, a full new area to explore (the Dreadnaught), a new enemy faction (The Taken), and an increased Light Level cap for your Guardian!

Skylanders Superchargers
Release Date: September 20

ESRB Rating: E10+ (Everyone 10+)

Activision’s toys to life franchise is back with 20 new Skylanders, and 20 all-new Vehicles and to collect. These vehicles come in three different types, air, water, and land, and any of the 300+ Skylanders already released can ride in them. But, if you pair the vehicles with thier designed “Supercharger” Skylander, the vehicle will super charge with extra power and abilities!

LEGO Dimensions

Warner Bros. Interactive is getting into the toys to life genre in a big way with this fall’s LEGO Dimensions. Combining real-world LEGO characters with huge virtual worlds to explore, mix characters from some of your favourite brands in the LEGO Universe such as DC Comics, Lord of the Rings, and The LEGO Movie for the ultimate adventure!
