Best Buy and House of Marley are celebrating the Bob Marley movie “One Love” arriving in theatres, appropriately, on Valentine’s day with a fantastic contest. House of Marley products are designed to “elevate and amplify the values we all stand for: sustainability, love and respect for the planet.”1 What better way to celebrate the love we all have for each other and the planet this Valentines Day while at the same time raise awareness for the theatrical release of the new movie, than by giving away an amazingly unique prize: limited edition House of Marley “One Love” turntables. House of Marley honours a voice of love and togetherness

Great music makes us feel: sometimes joyous, sometimes nostalgic, sometimes energetic. Accordingly, we play music when we are happy, when we are melancholic, and especially when we want to party. It can also be an effective tool to bring us together for a single call to action. Bob Marley’s music did both. He elevated our spirits and inspired us to embrace positive relationships.

  21. 1. I have long been a fan of Bob Marley and the Wailers. My favourite musics run from world music to ‘60’s, classical, new wave etc. But have always been a bigger fan of reggae, ska, dub, punk and rockabilly. Mr. Marley was a huge inspiration to the roots of the punk and new wave movements of my generation. And they both were more than musical entertainment, they sough to shed light on social injustices in our world. I and my household are big on recycling, upcycling objects whenever possible, using the free cycle movement to move things we no longer need but are still in good shape to anyone who can use them or by donating them to thrift stores or selling them through consignment shops, anything but sending things to the already overflowing landfills. We compost, keep our own balcony/patio garden of various pots and other containers of vegetables and fruits. And in the winter I bring some of my gardening efforts indoors where I continue to re-grow vegetables from the root ends of any I purchase at the store including onions, celery, green onions, green peppers, jalapeños and few others I am sure I am forgetting here. Alongside our pot and patio gardens on the two balconies of our apartment I grow flowers from seed mixes with the support of bees to keep the population from getting anymore unhealthily low and encourage pollination of our crops. We also re-use every bit of packaging that comes into our home to the best of our abilities and if we buy something at the store and have no choice but to purchase a product in way too much packing we take the packaging off of our purchase and put our new item in a reusable bag and hand all that packaging back to the store/cashier/manager/whatever employee is serving us to send a message to stores and manufacturers that over packaging is not necessary and not acceptable. We use our bikes whenever we can for errands and appointments.
    2. If I could have one product from Best Buy from the House of Marley line of beautiful audio equipment they make it would definitely be the Bob Marley One Love Turntable. And I am not just saying that for the sake of this contest, we really need a new turntable! Our old one owes us nothing and cranked out the music we love for many years, helped along by my partner’s capable and knowledgeable hands when it comes to electronics and technology. Our other music system pieces are still beautiful pieces that continue to serve us from way back but are not complete without a good turntable. From the first notes of “Three Little Birds” when he first arrived to last night’s rendition of “Redemption Song” at the tender age of 5, music has been the staple in his life (and subsequently his toddler sister) that brings him happiness and peace. As his parents, we’ve been adamant about him learning ALL of Bob Marley’s songs, not just the popular ones, to get a full rounded understanding of Bob Marley – what he stood for, why he made the music he did and what is really most important in life – being kind, thoughtful and loving towards animals and people. As Canadian Caribbean and Black American people, we uphold the values and principles that Bob Marley has given to the world, to look after our planet through thoughtful recycling and reusing of items, stopping to talk to strangers to make them laugh and to lend a helping hand and, most importantly, how cooking and music can bring a community together. To receive love from an intentional space is sort of difficult in the world, so, we make sure to combat that daily with positive music playing in our home at all times.
