Unboxing the Aventon Aventure.2
The Aventon Aventure.2 comes in a box that is completely made of cardboard. As such, everything can be placed into a green bin. Minor assembly is required and the required tools are included. In the box, you’ll find the bike frame with the handle bars dis-attached and hanging on the front. Two keys for the bike are attached to the frame. The back tire is installed but the front tire is off the bike. The fender is also not installed.
In the package, you’ll find another smaller box with the rest of the accessories. This includes the charger, reflectors, grease, hex key, wrench, pedals, and rear rack bracket. The user manual and Aventon stickers are also included in the box. A giant QR code is located on the box that opens the official installation video on YouTube. I love when brands create how-to videos. I’d much rather watch a video than read a manual.
Design of the Aventon Aventure.2
I’ve reviewed a lot of electric bikes. The first thing I noticed about the Aventure.2 was the weight. At nearly 77lbs this bike is heavy. A lot of that is due to the 48V 15Ah battery that powers the 750W motor. It’s nicely integrated into the frame and mounted on the side for easy access. On the front, you’ll find a colour LCD display, which shows the battery level in percentage. I much prefer this over the bar readouts for battery life.
The Aventure.2 comes with front suspension with 80mm of travel for the 4” fat tires. This makes it suitable to navigate rougher terrain like mountain bike trails. In addition, it comes with fenders, a rear rack, LED head light, and integrated brake lights with turn signal functionality. Pedal assist and throttle are located on the left handlebar and gear shifting on the right.
Using the Aventon Aventure.2
Before taking this ebike for a ride, I had to charge the battery. The Aventon Aventure.2 features a removable battery that opens with a key. The charging port is located on the bottom of the battery. A power button is on the top near the lock. The battery can be charged in the bike or at another location. A light on the charging block turns red to green when it is fully charged. From what I can tell, it takes about 4 to 5 hours to fully charge the battery.
Next, it was time for a test drive. I live near a big forest park with a ton of bike trails. It was the perfect place to test the Aventure.2. On the ride there, I could already tell this bike had a lot of power. With pedal assist on the highest, I barely had to pedal to go fast. The turn signal lights came in handy on the road. I was able to notify cars behind me that I was taking a right at the end of the street.
Once I got to the park, the fun began. I couldn’t believe how easy it was to go up hills. I felt like I was flying through the trails. Toggling through all the pedal assist modes, I found the “Eco mode” to be the best on flat trails. The fat tire and suspension made it easy to jump off bumps and get some air. I had to be careful because this bike accelerates quickly. It took some time to get used to.
On the ride home, I decided to try the Turbo pedal assist mode with the throttle. Holy cow does this bike accelerate. It takes off so fast and gets to the top speed of 32km very quickly. It’s definitely the most powerful ebike I’ve ever reviewed.
Who is the Aventure.2 electric bike for?
Some people like to hike, others like to bike. If you’re part of the latter group, the Aventure.2 is for you. It’s freaking fun, I felt like a kid again. It makes mountain biking accessible to anyone. You don’t have to be fit to go up a mountain bike trail. If you feel tired, increase the pedal assist or use the throttle. When you’re not on a trail, use it on the street. In that sense, it’s both a city bike and a mountain bike in one.
The one thing to note is the size and weight. This bike takes up a lot of space so ensure you have somewhere to store it. It’s also heavy so you’ll need to be a little strong to pick it up and place it on a bike rack.
Should you get the Aventure.2?
If you like to be in the great outdoors, you should definitely check out the Aventon Aventure.2 electric bike. It makes all-terrain biking super fun with little effort. That makes it suitable for just about everyone. However, I suggest you ride with other people who have electric bikes. Otherwise no one will be able to keep up with you. Sure you could ride it without the help, but that’s no fun. Speaking from experience, it’s hard not to use the pedal assist when it’s literally at your fingertips.
With that said, if you’re looking for some outdoor adventure, then I highly recommend you check out the Aventon Aventure.2 at Best Buy.
