Samsung G3 G5 G7 monitor contest at Best Buy

Samsung Odyssey series monitors deliver amazing gaming and productivity. We already gave away the largest G9 monitors in a contest earlier this year. Now you have a chance to win one three different sizes and styles of Odyssey monitors: the G3, G5, and the G7. These monitors offer superior performance. I’ll highlight some of the features that differentiate them. Then you’ll have a chance to weigh in on which features are most important to you to enter this contest.

Display size an obvious consideration for your new Samsung Monitor

I have to admit, I am not into the massive monitors like Samsung’s G9 with its 49″ screen. Firstly, I don’t have the room for one. Secondly, and most importantly, I am an infrequent gamer, so I would not get the benefit of total immersion that a gamer embraces with one or more large monitors. Of the three monitors that we are giving away in this contest, the G3 would be perfect for me with its 24″ screen, a huge improvement over the 21 inch screen I currently use. The G5’s 27″ and the G7’s 28″ wouldn’t be a problem for my space, and I might be in heaven with the extra space (I’d have to try it and see).

Here is a table of some of the other key features found in these three monitors (thanks to Marcus Wong who created this table for his detailed review of these three monitors).

As you can see, there are some clear differences in addition to screen size.

Which feature is the most important when choosing a gaming monitor

Monitors are tricky things to buy. You try to compare models but there are so many features and some of these will not likely weigh on your decision at all. For example, in the monitors Best Buy is giving away in this contest, few people would choose one over the other based on the difference in HDMI video input. HDMI 1.4 is perfectly fine for the G3 with its 1080p display, but the G7 with its 4K display requires the new HDMI 2.1 standard (it supports a 4K signal at 120Hz) or you wouldn’t get the benefit of the higher resolution screen. So, some people might choose the G7 based on its 4k resolution, rather than its HDMI support, and other people will be fine with the resolution of the G3, and spend less money for a monitor that perfectly suits their needs.

And that raises a good point about monitors: the more modern the features, the higher the price. Yes, this applies to technology in general and monitors are not exempt. So when selecting a new monitor many people focus on two or three features and also on the price. For example, my daughter recently bought a monitor and a main consideration was that it was white to match her apartment (and she found exactly what she wanted at Best Buy!).

Think about what you want in a monitor and then enter this contest for a chance to win one of these three monitors.

How to enter

Entering this contest is easy and you can enter in two different ways.

  1. In a comment below, tell us about three features that you think are the most important when you are shopping for a monitor. For example, if you mention colour, what about colour: should it be dark like the monitors we are giving away or perhaps pink like the Samsung M8 monitor to match your decor?
  2. In a comment beneath the review article for these monitors on Best Buy’s blog, tell us which of the three monitors he discusses is your favourite and why.

What you can win

At the end of this contest, we will randomly select three (3) eligible entries to each win one of the three monitors that we sent out for review: a Samsung Odyssey G3, G5, or G7 gaming monitor.

This contest runs from May 19th to June 2nd.

Remember you can enter once in a comment below and once in a comment on the review article for these monitors. However, you can boost your chances of getting to see and try these monitors by telling your friends and family to enter too!

  1. definately need cool colour choices not boring black, cool light up options, vivid colors and definition

  2. Three important features are
    Size of the screen
    Resolution that complements that size
    And sufficient refresh rate
Nice to have is screen tilt and height adjustments

  3. The three features I think are the most important when I’m shopping for a monitor are:
    1. Size – it has to be large and wide as I use it for work and need to see all my documents at one time
    2. Ability to tilt so it’s comfortable for viewing without glare
    3. Resolution – sharp words and numbers for ease of reading

  4. 1.) Response time
    2.) Resolution
3.) Definitely the size of the monitor (Two monitors if possible)!

  5. Resolution of the monitor, the size of the monitor and 4K if possible. I love the Samsung G7!

  6. the 3 most important features in a monitor are:
Size – the larger the better
Response time – needs to be quick
Resolution – needs to be high

  7. When I shop for a monitor, the three most important factors are size, value for money and quality of the display.

  8. The 3 things I look for are:
    1. Refresh rate for smooth fast motion
    2. Response time for lag free gaming
    3. Picture quality for games and media to look as good as the creator intended.

  9. Important features are
resolution for crisp picture, size – 27 or 28 inch is great for poor eyesight, and adjustable stand to accommodate different people using the monitor.

  10. For me, the three most important monitor features are size, refresh rate and brand. Size because I need a larger screen so it can double as a work/productivity second screen. Refresh rate because I need good gaming performance because I’m usually quite bad at most games. Brand because I need a good reliable brand with a warranty they stand behind.

  11. The first feature I feel are most important is response time because you need quick response for any gaming you do. The second feature is resolution because I want a crisp picture that shows everything for a better gaming experience. The third feature is the adjustable stand because I’ve got different size people in my house that would use the monitor

  12. Most important when I am shopping for a monitor:
    – Resolution: screen real estate: how much I can see at once
    – Panel type is IPS: so the colors and image can be viewed from angle
    – Shape and Size: not so interested in Curved monitor, interested in larger size
Odyssey G7 for flat IPS Panel with High Resolution!

  13. The three features that are most important to me when I’m shopping for a monitor is:

    1. The design-I love the curved monitors.

    2. Size-I like a big monitor.

    3. Clarity-For gaming I like a good picture.

  14. 1. Resolution: This is probably the most important thing. I already have poor eyesight, so it’s not worth buying a TV or monitor with poor resolution. I live with terrible real life resolution…
    2. Contrast: With poor resolution, it is so hard to read anything on the screen. As a student, this is very important to m.e.
    3. Colour: Being able to display the ranges of black and white, in my opinion, defines the monitor.

My favourite one is the G7. Even thought the contrast is second highest, it beats the G5 and G3 in everything else. My current monitor is chunky on a good day. This resolution and colour capabilities would be like a breath of fresh air. Thank you!

  15. The curve of the G5 is a nice feature, but the importance of refresh rates and response times cannot be understated for serious gaming

  16. Design, I love the curve. Size, bigger the better! And clarity, a better picture for graphics is always a bonus!

  17. When i am looking for a monitor the resolution is important to me. I want something the same as or better than what i had visually. I want to be able to watch movies, do work and play games. Price is not exactly a feature, but it is high on my priority list. I have a set budget and I have to stick to it. Being able to adjust the height and\or tilt of the monitor is important too. We have a lot of people using the computer and being able to adjust it to make it comfortable for each of us matters. we can’t adjust the desk at all and the chair only adjust so much. Having a monitor that can meet us half way is awesome.

  18. My most looked after feature is reliability, some cheaper models die quickly or get dead pixels. I also appreciate having the most up to date inputs, like hdmi 2.1 and great new display advancements like how ips can now look great and have a high refresh rate and very quick response times, like on the g7

  19. I would like the monitor to support 4k resolution. The clearer the picture, the easier to see detail. I would like the monitor to be black. Black goes with everything and I don’t like any other colours for monitors, TVs, etc. I have been using only flat panel monitors and I think maybe I might want to try a curved panel monitor to see what it’s like. This would be a great win

  20. 1– would like the monitor to support 4k resolution. The clearer the picture, the easier to see detail.
2–would like the monitor to be black. Black goes with everything and I don’t like any other colours for monitors, TVs, etc.
3–I have been using only flat panel monitors and I think maybe I might want to try a curved panel monitor to see what it’s like.
    Great contest

  22. The 3 features I look for are: screen size – will it fit or overpower my desk?, how much it costs and the resolution has to be 4K.

  23. The 3 features I look for are the refresh rate as I want it to be fast yet clear, the 4K resolution with HDMI 2.1 and the price.

  24. Price is important for budget reasons; high refresh rate ifor gaming; size, it has to fit my computer desk area.

  25. 1. I would like the monitor to support 4k resolution. The clearer the picture, the easier to see detail.
    2. I would like the monitor to be black. Black goes with everything and I don’t like any other colours for monitors, TVs, etc.
    3. I have been using only flat panel monitors and I think maybe I might want to try a curved panel monitor to see what it’s like.

  26. The three features I value most in a monitor are is the resolution for image sharpness and HD support. Need a high refresh rate for smoothness of game play and video. Also have to have a large size so my eyes are not strained.

  27. Three features that I would like to have with my monitor are 1. I would like for the monitor to be either black or grey, as most of my appliances and devices are already neutral colors and not very colorful. 2) The size of the screen and 3) the resolution.

  28. For me, the three features that I think are most important are:
    1. Resolution
    2. Refresh rate
    3. Response time

  29. The three features that I think are most important are:
    1. One DisplayPort, two HDMI ports, one headphone port, and two USB ports for connecting video sources, audio devices, flash storage, and more
    2. Refresh rate
    3. Curved screen

  30. I like curves, because it wraps around my head and is more immersive. Size, too, because I can see in more detail. Not too bright though (I know it’s an ajustable setting but still) because that DESTROYS your eyes.
