Laundry faster MainI’m sure there are some people who love doing laundry, but I am not one of them. I don’t mind throwing in a load but then I have to remember to switch it over and I find folding laundry extremely boring. Over the many years I’ve been doing laundry, I have found some tips and tricks that make doing laundry a little faster and easier, and it all starts with the right washer and dryer.

1.The perfect washer and dryer

washer dryer setThere’s such a variety of washers and dryers on the market which makes finding the perfect one to meet your needs easy. Being a family of four and with all the sheets and bedding that require washing, I need a full-sized washer and dryer with large capacity drums. I also want something energy efficient and fairly simple to use so my kids can do their own laundry without too much hassle. Sometimes a load gets forgotten in the dryer, so a refresh or fluff option is also nice to have.

Of course, there are some other amazing features that I would love to have when I look to purchase a new set such as steam dry, sensor wash, and automatic tumble to keep the clothes fresh on the days I forget about a load.

2.Get laundry hampers with organizers

hamperI love a hamper with dividers which keeps the household laundry pre-sorted. I usually separate loads for towels, darks, and whites/lights, which makes laundry days easier.

I’m flexible on which days I do laundry, I simply run a cycle when I have enough for a full load, which having a hamper with dividers helps make evident. I always try to avoid running a cycle that isn’t full unless I have an item that requires special care, that way I’m not unnecessarily wasting energy and water.

3.Schedule wash days

laundryLaundry has a way of sneaking up on you and before you know it, there’s not a clean towel to be found and nobody has any clean clothes. For some people, it’s easiest to have designated wash days on the calendar. I prefer, as noted, to wash only when I have a full load ready. I always turn on a wash right when I get home from work and this helps me remember to switch it over to the dryer. Leaving a load in the washer leads to a mouldy and mildewy smell quite quickly and it’s such a waste of time, energy, and water to have to re-wash. Doing laundry when I know I’ll be home for a few hours to get it done helps keep me on track.

4.Make folding laundry a breeze

Folded laundryFolding laundry is one of my least favourite chores. I find it so tedious, especially all those socks (and the inevitable ones that go missing, making the job even more difficult! Where do they go, anyway?) To make it a little less painful, I fold on my coffee table as I watch something on TV. If each family member washes their own laundry, that’s a lot less you need to fold. Isn’t it funny how each person has their own way of folding each item, kind of like how the dishwasher has to be loaded a specific way? Making sure everyone is on the same page about tri-folded versus rolled towels will make your life easier.

Get those clothes ready to wear in no time!

I have a love/hate relationship with doing laundry. The whole process is tedious but there’s nothing better than the smell of fresh clean laundry and the feeling of getting into bed with freshly washed sheets. These small tips and tricks make it faster and easier to do, which means I can spend more time on the things I love.
