The wait for Sony’s next-generation console, PlayStation 5, is almost over. Launching on November 12, 2020 I’ve been fortunate enough to get my hands on a retail PlayStation 5 console. As much as I would love to tell you all about the console, I can’t do that just yet. However, I can show you exactly what you’ll be getting come launch day.

What is PlayStation 5?
The PlayStation 5 is Sony’s next-generation console and successor to the PlayStation 4. The PlayStation 5 can handle 4K visuals at 60 frames-per-second all the way up to 120 frames-per-second. It’s also 8K capable! It comes with an ultra fast 825GB SSD with transfer rates up to 9GB/s. That means that there is very little if any load times in games.
Launching November 12, 2020 gamers have the choice between 2 PlayStation 5 systems. The first, is a PlayStation 5 standard console that includes an Ultra HD Blu-ray disc drive. The second, is called the PlayStation 5 Digital Edition and it does not include a disc drive.
Both consoles offer the same gameplay experience as each other and have the exact same technical specifications. The only difference is that one will accept physical games and the other one is download only.
The DualSense Wireless controller
The PlayStation 5‘s controller, called the DualSense, is an evolution of the DualShock 4 controller. It retains much of what PlayStation fans love about the DualShock 4 and includes new features such as haptic feedback. With haptic feedback, games can now have a variety of powerful sensations that you actually feel when you play.
For example, you can now feel the slow grittiness of driving a car through mud in racing games like Dirt 5. Additionally, the controller has adaptive L2 and R2 triggers, which allow you to feel the tension of things like drawing a bow to shoot an arrow. Moreover, the share button from the DualShock 4 has been replaced with a “Create” button that features new and innovative ways to share content with the world.
Additionally, the DualSense controller comes with a built-in microphone array that allows you to quickly jump into a conversation without the need of a headset.Â
PlayStation 5 backwards compatibilityÂ
The majority of, the over 4000, PlayStation 4 games available are backwards compatible with the PlayStation 5. That means you’ll be able to play your favourite PlayStation 4 games like The Last of Us Part II and Ghost of Tsushima on PlayStation 5. And, PlayStation 4 games will run at a more stable frame rate and some games will even have higher resolutions.
All of your PS4 games that have been purchased digitally, will be available for download on PlayStation 5. On the other hand, physical PS4 games must be inserted into the disc drive of your PS5 and it will be downloaded onto your PS5. Just like on PS4, every time you want to play the game, you will have to insert the disc into the drive to play.
