Today, during the Gearbox E3 2021 showcase, the company shared a look at some of the exciting new content that’s coming to its action role-playing game Godfall on August 10, 2021. Counterplay Games has continually updated Godfall since its release on PS5 last year. The developers main focus has been to implement community-requested features and quality of life enhancements.

However, today, they announced add-on content for Godfall called Fire & Darkness and free Lightbringer update. This new content takes the game to a whole new level that includes:

  • Fire Realm, the largest realm to date
  • New story missions and cutscenes
  • Endgame matchmaking beta
  • New endgame activities
  • A new mode
  • Nearly 100 new loot and cosmetic items.

In addition to the Fire & Darkness expansion and free Lightbringer update, a PS4 version of Godfall was announced. It features cross-gen co-op and a free upgrade path to the PlayStation 5 version. Godfall Fire & Darkness launches on PlayStation 4, PlayStation 5, and PC on August 10, 2021. You can read our review of Godfall on PS5 here.

  1. I always appreciate when companies provide a free upgrade path to next-gen console so people do not feel like they are being cheated out of money. It is also smart of them because it encourages people to buy the game right away for their current console, instead of waiting to get the next hardware and forgetting the game even exists.

I am also curious about how well this game sold on the PS5 if they felt the need to create a PS4 version. This was the first exclusively next-gen game I remember hearing about that sort of prided itself on taking advantage of the hardware, so I wonder what downgrades were made to make this playable.
