Video gaming keeps growing. The major consoles have been out for a while now and game developers continue to bring out more action, stunning details, and incredible gameplay in the newest games this year. We expect some amazing announcements this June as we celebrate gaming with Play at Best Buy. Follow us as we cover the biggest announcements and preorders in the gaming industry. You can learn about all the gaming news in our articles and preorder many of the games soon after they are announced (or learn when preorders begin). And like every year in June, Play at Best Buy will include a huge gaming contest!
Innovation and nostalgia make gaming better every year
The gaming world is constantly adapting and building on its previous successes. Each new game is an iteration on the programming, animation, videography, and sound design that came before to bring an immersive blend of storytelling, interactive entertainment, and competition. This year we have already seen amazing games, including Star Wars: Jedi Survivor by Respawn and EA games. And Nintendo just released the highly anticipated: The Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom. Fans have been waiting for years to play this game and many are already calling it the game of the year.
Both of those titles bring a healthy dose of nostalgia with new game play features that stretch the limits of technology. We expect to see more of this trend in many of the gaming announcements over the rest of this year, especially from now to the end of June. Be on the lookout for several more reboots and sequels. Additionally, watch for potential future franchise games in the many indy titles vying for our attention.
Prizes are huge part of Play at Best Buy
The announcements started early this year with the PlayStation Showcase on May 24th. The buzz of gaming month is driven in a large part by gaming announcements, but also by the great deals that Best Buy will feature all month long. It’s just a great month to be a gamer! To top it off, Best Buy has the best gaming contest anywhere in Canada! Look at these amazing prize packages.

How to enter
Entering this contest will be fun and you can enter in three different ways:
- In a comment below: tell us the name of a game you played in the past that you think should be redone soon. A valid entry must include all three of these parts: 1. what console you played it on; 2. what changes you suggest would make a new version exciting; and 3. on which console would you like to try this new version of the game.
- Social post: For two additional entries, create a public post on a social media channel sharing with your friends and followers that you are entering the Play at Best Buy blog contest. Let your friends know which prize package you are hoping to win and what new game you will play first if you do win; include the hashtag #PlayatBestBuyContest, so we can find your post, and include a picture from this contest page. Then return here and tell us in a comment below on which channel you posted it and the name of your channel (since many people use pseudonyms) so that we can check and verify your entry. You can use any social media channel (Twitter, Facebook, Instagram, TikTok, LinkedIn, etc.), but the post must be public so we can verify it is there.
- Email a photo: If you visit any Best Buy store, take a picture with your smartphone of the gaming section in a store showing several of the games available that you love to play. Then in an email to bestbuyblog@bestbuycanada.ca with the subject line “Play at Best Buy Contest” tell us the location of the store (city, street) and attach the picture.
What you can win
At the end of the contest, we will randomly select six (6) winners from all eligible entries. These winners will be randomly assigned to the six prize packages shown above so each winner will get one of those six prize packages.
This contest runs from May 31st to June 30th.
Remember you can enter up to four times as mentioned above. Perhaps you’ve been trying to win a prize in a Best Buy Canada contest for many years and just have not been lucky. Hedge your bet by telling all of your friends and family that you really need their support for this amazing contest. They’ll likely be happy to enter this contest too. If they win, I’m sure they’ll share the prize with you.
Win a Play at Best Buy gaming prize
Good luck.
I would like to see both The Last of Us Part 2 and Red Dead Redemption 2 updated for the PS5, with optimized graphics and new DLC content. Both games are already fantastic and would be that much better as remastered PS5 versions.
I used to love playing Lego Lord of the Rings and a remake of that on the Nintendo Switch with better graphics, added levels and updated features similar to newer Lego games would be awesome!
Wii Rockband.
I played (and still play) Wii Rockband with my family and love it, especially Beatles Rockband. It would be amazing if they remade those games with new and classic songs and all the instruments could get revamped with a guitar, drums with symbols, microphone and maybe some kind of keyboard piano instrument too. It would be awesome if it was on the Nintendo Switch of course!
I played The Last of Us on PS4 and I think a new version with updated characters and scenes to match the TV production would be amazing. I would love to play this on a PS5.
I used to love Street Fighter on Nintendo. Obviously, I’d like to see better graphics and more female players would be cool too. More outfit changes too. What can I say I’m girly! I’d love to play this on my PS5.
HOMM IV on PC was a favorite – love to see it updated with better graphics and more scenarios – maybe on Xbox?
Streets of Rage
1. what console you played it on; Sega Genesis
2. what changes you suggest would make a new version exciting; online multiplayer and 3D
3. on which console would you like to try this new version of the game: Xbox Series X
I would like to replay Prince of Persia.
1- I played it on pc
2- Graphism can be improve and quests
3- And I would like to try on PS5 why not!!
Final Fantasy X on PlayStation. If they integrated the same game mechanics as FF7 remake, I’d be the first to buy! And as for the new version of FFX, the console has to be PlayStation of course.
Fallout New Vegas
1. what console you played it on; Xbox 360
2. what changes you suggest would make a new version exciting; updated graphics, new quests, new weapons, crafting for weapons, and base building.
3. on which console would you like to try this new version of the game: any!
The Witcher 3 on PS4. It would be mind-blowing if they launch The Witcher 4 in PS5 adding new features like coop/multiplayer, similar to how Diablo does. It would be an amazing experience to play with my friends.
I would like to try to play any of the games with our grandchildren.
War of the Monsters. Playstation played on a PS3. I would make more worlds and .of course, add some new monsters. They had air, fire, electric… perhaps a hydro-monster or a spider-type. Maybe a great Canadian monster – Ogopogo ish. I would not change too much otherwise. Definitely keeping the Multi-player. For new locations – perhaps something with castles for the dragon monsters. I would love it on a Switch or PS5.

i used to play Rise of the Triad and would love to see it redone, so many good times. I used to play it on my old PC but would love to see it on an Xbox with updated graphics and maybe even some VR
I’ve played many games on old consoles before but I have not played recently. I used to play Wolfenstein on the xbox and i remember that it was kind of dark. Maybe that could be remade with a better resolution (if it has not been already).
I have played most of the Castle Wolfenstein games a new one would be great
I played the Legend of Zelda Ocarina of Time on the N64, would love to see a remaster. What would I add or change? Make the game seamless with no loading times and everything connects together. I’d play a new one on the Nintendo Switch.
A proper remake of ultima
I played the “Need for Speed: The Run” on PS3 was one of the best in the Need for Speed franchise. I would love to see a new and improved version of this game. Alone, with a friend online or with multiple people online was never a let down.
I played The Last of Us on PS4 and I think a new version with updated characters and scenes to match the TV production would be amazing. I would love to play this on a PS5.
Having recently played the new Dead Space Remake on PS5, I decided to go back and play Dead Space 2 on PC and Dead Space 3 on PS3. I believe both Dead Space 2 & 3 represent great opportunities as far as remakes, given how polished the Dead Space Remake is. For Dead SPace 2, I’d like to see the remake be a bit more atmospheric/horror-based, vs. the Original Dead Space 2 action-oriented game style. For Dead Space 3 Remake, it would be great to get rid of the tied-co-op requirements that directly limited how much of the story you could see during a one-player playthrough. For both remakes I’d love to see these on PS5, but PC would be good too.
I think the first Silent Hill game should be redone soon. It was creepy back when I played it on the original PlayStation. I think they should redo it for the PS5 with updated graphics and different points of view.
I think it is time we seriously talk about redoing GoldenEye 007. I loved it on N64 playing in my basement with friends, but I think we are due for a remaster. The levels can stay fundamentally the same with some additions, upgrade the graphics, and add more game modes, but I wouldn’t play around too much more with the functionality. I’m sure it would be great on any console. I would probably play it on the Switch, but it would also be incredible on PS5 or Xbox.
Legend of Dragoon
I played Chrono Trigger on the SNES. An amazing game, but I think with improved graphics and maybe some new customization options for characters it could be so cool. I would love to see it on the Switch.
As a kid I spent most of my time playing pokemon Red on my game bay color. While there have been several new iterations of pokemon since, with the technology and gameplay available today, I still can’t believe there doesn’t exist a more open world game based in one or many of the pokemon regions. It would be so cool to have features similar to that of an MMORPG with an improved battle system, raids, etc. Not to mention an improved storyline! The latest games that have been released really leave you wanting more with respect to gameplay outside of the main storyline as there is little interaction available with NPC’s even. It would be wicked to see this available on PC given the more limited hardware capabilities of the switch.
i played mario kart on the SNES, i think they should add a 4 player mode for the N64
Shared on Twitter (@Winterburn7274)!
I played X-Wing from LucasArts on PC years ago and loved it. Swooping over a Star Destroyer and trying to knock out it’s shield generators, imagine playing that scene from the start of The Last Jedi. I want it remade with modern graphics and maybe even VR. I’d love to play it on a PS5.
SUPER DIFFICULT QUESTION! I mean, there are countless games that have had an HD remake/rerelease or that are in the works (ie. Fable), however I’m going to say Pokemon Crystal for the Game Boy Colour. It revolutionized this iconic series with a day/night cycle, allowing you to play as a girl, animation & allowing you to travel between two regions. If it were rereleased (or completely remade) for the Switch (with Pokemon Home integration) it would open the doors to countless childhood memories for myself & millions of others – heck, even a remake that allowed travel between MULTIPLE regions (maybe a little overkill, but imagine the possibilities!).
Duck hunt on Nintendo was by far my favourite. Would love to bring back modern version with gaming accessories like console guns and can be played on any console, either Xbox or PS5
I’m a fan of the Tomb Raiders. Played the latest trilogy on PS4 and it was very satisfying. The game is perfect as it is, just keep the puzzles coming. Love to see this game appear on next gen consoles, e.g. PS5.
I played endless hours of Star Wars: Knights of the Old Republic on the original Xbox console and it would be amazing if it were redone and revamped. Redone with better graphics and modernized combat mechanics would be amazing. I would play countless hours of it on the Xbox Series X console.
Stray, nothing to add really, mabye the choice of being a dog. I’d probably want it on Xbox one
Heroes of Might Magic on the PS 2. I would update the graphics, speed of play, and add scenarios. Would like it on the PS5 if I won one.
I have played the game shining force on saga genesis and I would like it to be remade on Xbox series X with better graphics, a longer gameplay, more characters and perhaps a better story
PlayStation 3 with Motorstorm, a new PS5 would be nice! Best wishes
Final Fantasy Tactics is overdue for a remake. I played it on Playstation. I’ve been hoping for a remaster on Xbox (One + Series S|X) for a while. It doesn’t need a lot of dramatic changes, just a graphics upgrade.

Toy Commander I played on dreamcast and I would like to improve the graphics and would play it on Xbox One
I used to play golden sun: the lost arc on gba, it is a very good game and I would like to have a remake on swtich with improved graphic and options to automate the battle / quicksave.
Sly 2: Band of Thieves, Playstation 2.
A favourite childhood game growing up, the graphics definitely need improvement. It would be AMAZING on the switch with updated controls.
Always had a thing for Pac Man
I would love to play a remake of Nintendo Land from the Wii U on the Nintendo Switch. Specifically, the Metroid Blast mini-game. I was not overly familiar with the Metroid franchise prior to the game, but my family and I greatly enjoyed it as a multiplayer action game. A Switch version could reimagine Metroid Blast as a complete game with split-screen multiplayer, improved graphics, and gyro-aiming support. I hope to see the game again someday!
I would love a full on remake of Banjo-Kazooie for modern systems like the Xbox Series X or PS5. Updated graphics and tighter modern controls would make the game feel fresh.
Mike tysons punch out for the original NES, , maybe update the punching mechanics but still have that top down look, and it definitely should be on xbox and be a day one on gamepass
The Elder Scrolls 4: Oblivion for the Xbox 360 was a great game. I believe a remake of this game would be incredible with today’s graphics and an upgrade to some in game mechanics. Also bring mods to the new console Xbox Series and PS5.
tell us the name of a game you played in the past that you think should be redone soon. A game I played in the past that I think should be redone is Syberia. I played it on a computer as a child. I think it would be amazing to see it redone with better graphics and new puzzles/storylines. I would want to try this new version on xbox!
I have some of my favorite core star wars game memories from playing star wars jedi academy on the original Xbox. I would love to see this game get a full remake for the Xbox Series X. I think they could implement the option of first person perspective for a invigorating approach to an already exciting star wars experience
