naan bread recipesIf you follow food trends you’ll have heard by now that naan bread is considered one of Pinterest’s top food trends for the 2017. There’s good reason for that  too: naan is a such a versatile bread you can use it as a base for everything from chips to wraps or pizza.

To make Naan bread, all you need is a cast iron pan and your range. I also like to use my KitchenAid stand mixer to whip up the dough.

You can buy naan from the grocery store, but making it is so easy you might want to skip the shops and spend some time creating in your kitchen. I’ve got a few naan bread recipes for you that are just for creating Naan, and a few interesting ideas you’ll want to try once you’ve made it.

From allrecipes.com, a Naan bread recipe that’s so easy anyone can make it. I up the amount of garlic I use because it really adds a lot of flavour.

Ingredients

1 (.25 ounce) package active dry yeast
1 cup warm water
1/4 cup white sugar
3 tablespoons milk
1 egg, beaten
2 teaspoons salt
4 1/2 cups bread flour
2 teaspoons minced garlic (optional)
1/4 cup butter, melted

Directions

In a large bowl, dissolve yeast in warm water. Let stand about 10 minutes, until frothy. Stir in sugar, milk, egg, salt, and enough flour to make a soft dough. Knead for 6 to 8 minutes on a lightly floured surface, or until smooth. Place dough in a well oiled bowl, cover with a damp cloth, and set aside to rise. Let it rise 1 hour, until the dough has doubled in volume.

Punch down dough, and knead in garlic. Pinch off small handfuls of dough about the size of a golf ball. Roll into balls, and place on a tray. Cover with a towel, and allow to rise until doubled in size, about 30 minutes. During the second rising, preheat grill to high heat.

At grill side, roll one ball of dough out into a thin circle. Lightly oil grill. Place dough on grill, and cook for 2 to 3 minutes, or until puffy and lightly browned. Brush uncooked side with butter, and turn over. Brush cooked side with butter, and cook until browned, another 2 to 4 minutes. Remove from grill, and continue the process until all the naan has been prepared.

Now that you’ve got some Naan you have to use it, so why not try this grilled pizza? It’s full of amazing goodies like avocado and delicious BBQ chicken, and it’s really easy too. Image and recipe from noblepig.com.

Ingredients

Naan bread
Olive oil
Barbecue sauce
Fresh mozzarella slices

Shredded rotisserie chicken
California avocado
Finely chopped red onion
Black pepper

Directions

Preheat grill on high. Brush both sides of naan bread with olive oil. Turn off the grill completely and place naan bread on grill. Put something heavy on top of the bread if you would like visible grill marks. Grill each side for about two minutes each. Remove and let cool slightly.
To make the pizza, layer each piece of naan bread with barbecue sauce, fresh mozzarella cheese slices, shredded rotisserie chicken (that has been mixed with extra barbecue sauce), sliced avocado and red onion.
You will want to grill the pizza over indirect heat only, using your grill as more of an oven. In other words, if you have three burners, only preheat two for this next step. If you have two burners, only preheat one burner. Place layered pizza on the side of the grill that is not lit. Close the cover and let cook until the toppings are melted to your liking, about five minutes. Remove and cut into slices with a pizza cutter.

Once you have your naan making down pat, you need to branch out and try it with a few different recipes. That’s where dessert comes in, and this naan cinnamon roll recipe turns out a pan of yummy cinnamon rolls. Photo and recipe from justapinch.com.

Ingredients

1 pkg of 2 naan breads (8.8 oz)
1/3 c brown sugar
1/3 c granulated sugar
2 tsp cinnamon
1 Tbsp softened butter or margarine
1/3 c finely chopped pecans
3 Tbsp melted butter or margarine
1/4 c powdered sugar
1/2 tsp vanilla

Directions

Preheat oven to 350 degrees.

Moisten naan with a tiny amount of water and warm in microwave ten seconds to soften slightly.

In a small bowl, mix together the brown sugar, granulated sugar and cinnamon. Cut in the softened butter or margarine until crumbly.

Place the naans flat side up on a work surface. Sprinkle with half of the cinnamon sugar mixture. Sprinkle with most of the nuts, saving just a few to sprinkle in bottoms of muffin cups.

Carefully roll up each naan and cut into three pieces or rolls. ( about three turns, do not worry if it cracks a little.)

Spray a large 6count muffin tin with cooking spray. Sprinkle equal amounts of the remaining sugar mixture and pecans in each cup bottom. Place one cinna naan roll in each cup over the sugar and nuts.

Drizzle each roll with a little melted butter.

Bake in 350 degree oven for 10-12 minutes, until slightly golden on top.

Remove and let rest for 5 minutes, then scoop each roll out, bottom sides up so the gooey stuff is on top.

Mix the powdered sugar and vanilla in a small bowl and drizzle the rolls with the icing if desired.

See how easy it is to use Naan for dinner, lunch, or dessert? You can make a few batches of Naan and freeze it so it’s ready for whatever you want to whip up.
