Now that the holidays are over it’s time to get back to my regular routine and this also includes getting my diet back on track. My snacking has been slightly out of control, and there has been more than a few meals who’s portions were larger than definitely necessary.
The last couple of days I’ve incorporated my regular protein shakes and supplements back into my diet after slacking off the last few weeks and I’m already feeling less bloated and have more energy.
Protein powders
When it comes to protein powders there’s a huge selection to choose from such as whey, isolate, performance, protein and greens and even all-in-ones. It’s really important to think about how you want to use the protein in your diet and the results you’re hoping to get, and you can learn more about them here. Most protein powders on the market vary from 20-30 grams of protein per serving and I love that it’s so easy to find plant based proteins now too which is perfect if you’re vegetarian or vegan.
My husband and I have used this Kaizen Naturals Whey Isolate Protein Powder for years and have been really happy with the results. We love the simple ingredient list and how easy it mixes and it tastes great. My husband finds blending the powder with water or milk and a banana is a great after workout shake to help fuel and build muscles.
Another of my personal go to powders is the Vega One All-In-One Protein Powder in chocolate. I’m not a big lunch eater, I’m gluten free and I stick to a mostly vegetarian diet so this powder ensures I’m getting a huge variety of vitamins and minerals in my day as well. This protein is great for anyone looking to increase eating a well-balanced diet daily and can easily be incorporated into a lot of recipes if shake drinking isn’t your thing.
Repair and recovery
You may notice after an intense workout your muscles are sore and it’s important to help them repair and recover quickly so you can get back to the gym for your next workout. One way to do this is to use L-Glutamine as a supplement. This Muscle Plus Labs MedX L-Glutamine will replenish your natural glutamine levels after your workout and increase the speed of cell repair. It’s also an aid in digestion and will boost your immune system, and now that flu season is in full swing, it might be a great time to add a glutamine supplement to your day.
Add superfoods to your day
There are so many “superfoods” to choose from that it’s impossible to add all of them to your diet in one day, but I like the idea of switching them up in my diet. I’ve been seeing so many posts lately on the benefits of maca powder so I did my research to see what it is and if I would benefit from adding it to my shakes. After learning that it will increase my energy, help me with my feelings of stress and my poor memory I am definitely interested in trying it out, and I always go for organic whenever possible so this Organika Maca Powder is on my list of must try’s.
With a new year just starting and resolutions to get healthy, now is a great time to think about adding the right protein powders and supplements to your diet. They can help increase your overall health as well as give you the energy, endurance and focus to keep your fitness and health regimen on track.
