Samsung G3 G5 G7 monitor contest at Best Buy

Samsung Odyssey series monitors deliver amazing gaming and productivity. We already gave away the largest G9 monitors in a contest earlier this year. Now you have a chance to win one three different sizes and styles of Odyssey monitors: the G3, G5, and the G7. These monitors offer superior performance. I’ll highlight some of the features that differentiate them. Then you’ll have a chance to weigh in on which features are most important to you to enter this contest.

Display size an obvious consideration for your new Samsung Monitor

I have to admit, I am not into the massive monitors like Samsung’s G9 with its 49″ screen. Firstly, I don’t have the room for one. Secondly, and most importantly, I am an infrequent gamer, so I would not get the benefit of total immersion that a gamer embraces with one or more large monitors. Of the three monitors that we are giving away in this contest, the G3 would be perfect for me with its 24″ screen, a huge improvement over the 21 inch screen I currently use. The G5’s 27″ and the G7’s 28″ wouldn’t be a problem for my space, and I might be in heaven with the extra space (I’d have to try it and see).

Here is a table of some of the other key features found in these three monitors (thanks to Marcus Wong who created this table for his detailed review of these three monitors).

As you can see, there are some clear differences in addition to screen size.

Which feature is the most important when choosing a gaming monitor

Monitors are tricky things to buy. You try to compare models but there are so many features and some of these will not likely weigh on your decision at all. For example, in the monitors Best Buy is giving away in this contest, few people would choose one over the other based on the difference in HDMI video input. HDMI 1.4 is perfectly fine for the G3 with its 1080p display, but the G7 with its 4K display requires the new HDMI 2.1 standard (it supports a 4K signal at 120Hz) or you wouldn’t get the benefit of the higher resolution screen. So, some people might choose the G7 based on its 4k resolution, rather than its HDMI support, and other people will be fine with the resolution of the G3, and spend less money for a monitor that perfectly suits their needs.

And that raises a good point about monitors: the more modern the features, the higher the price. Yes, this applies to technology in general and monitors are not exempt. So when selecting a new monitor many people focus on two or three features and also on the price. For example, my daughter recently bought a monitor and a main consideration was that it was white to match her apartment (and she found exactly what she wanted at Best Buy!).

Think about what you want in a monitor and then enter this contest for a chance to win one of these three monitors.

How to enter

Entering this contest is easy and you can enter in two different ways.

  1. In a comment below, tell us about three features that you think are the most important when you are shopping for a monitor. For example, if you mention colour, what about colour: should it be dark like the monitors we are giving away or perhaps pink like the Samsung M8 monitor to match your decor?
  2. In a comment beneath the review article for these monitors on Best Buy’s blog, tell us which of the three monitors he discusses is your favourite and why.

What you can win

At the end of this contest, we will randomly select three (3) eligible entries to each win one of the three monitors that we sent out for review: a Samsung Odyssey G3, G5, or G7 gaming monitor.

This contest runs from May 19th to June 2nd.

Remember you can enter once in a comment below and once in a comment on the review article for these monitors. However, you can boost your chances of getting to see and try these monitors by telling your friends and family to enter too!

  1. I would love to surprise my wife with a monitor, she works from home and doesn’t have a proper one yet.

  2. I would say that the size of the monitor, refresh rate and resolution are the three features that I would concentrate on when choosing a monitor.

  3. I like a large monitor (like 28″), adjustable stand, and 4K resolution, all so that I can see everything more clearly.

  4. The three features that are most important are:
β€’ Screen size – A 24” screen or smaller is what I would want
β€’ Panel type – I prefer a flat panel instead of a curved panel
    β€’ Screen resolution – A native resolution of 1920×1080

  5. The refresh rate of the monitor is the most important aspect for me since the main purpose of the monitor would be for gaming. The size/curve of the monitor would also be important so that it fits nicely in a dual monitor setup. Finally I’d want it to be in the colour black to match my all black setup.

  6. 1. Multiple connection ports: Im always plugging stuff in and I stream stuff from my PC to my TV.

    2. Refresh Time: Better gaming experience

    3. Price: Inflation is high, I need to save money.

  7. 1. Size – I want as large a screen as possible so I can see my content
    2. Design – How does this look on my desk in combination with the other stuff I have?
    3. Connectivity – I want to just be able to plug everything into my monitor!

All this considered, my pick would be the G8!! Thanks for your consideration πŸ™‚

  8. I find 1440p to be that sweet spot for gaming so the G5 would be perfect. A fast refresh rate and although I’ve never tried a curved monitor, I think it would greatly benefit seeing the edges for my aging eyes. Good luck to everyone!

  9. HDR for greater picture contrast
Resolution and Refresh rate for gaming, smoother picture at better framerate

  10. For me personally, the big three are:
1- Resolution- higher the better for sweet gaming goodness
2- Screensize – for when I want to watch a groovy movie on the screen with lots of screenspace= better viewing experience!
3- Price- times are tough and I do not have as much to spend on a setup as I would like !

  11. 1) Multiple connection ports (HDMI and DisplayPort) so I can use them with multiple computers.
    2) Adjustable stand to ensure proper ergonomic setup.
    3) Flat panel since I use multiple monitors.

  12. 3 key aspects to look at in a monitor are:
Display, different monitors have different display technology and you have to look at the right one for you.
You also have to look at the monitor’s resolution, while focusing on the display you should also look for resolution.
    And refresh rate.
My pick is Samsung Odyssey G9 because of the sheer size.

  13. For me, it’s all about the refresh rate – definitely want me games to be responsive and match the speed of the game; the resolution for that minute detail that my current monitor lacks, and then the adjustable stand – we have different folks playing so making maneuverability easy is essential.

  14. HDR for greater picture contrast
Resolution and Refresh rate for gaming, smoother picture at better framerate

  15. I think the most important features are latency, refresh rate, both of those because I like to have as little lag as possible when I’m gaming. Aside from that I think size matters, I’m not looking for something huge that I can’t see the whole screen at once. That being said, I like to feel immersed in the game I’m playing

  16. -input and output ports, for use with multi devices
    – high response time for gaming.
-size-when is it ever too big

  17. For me, the type of stand, the resolution, and the video inputs are the most important. Having options for positioning the monitor is great, resolution matters as that affects the quality of the image, and various video inputs takes the headache out of getting the monitor to sync up and work with the tower or another monitor.

  18. 1. Color accuracy is top of my list because of the digital art I draw and photos I take.
    2. Size is the next feature that is important as larger screens make it easier to see mistakes and errors.
    3. Vesa mounting is a must for me as I am moving my monitors a lot to either show people Photos or for doing my artwork

  19. 1. Size: big enough to be worthwhile, but not so big as to be overwhelming and not fit on the desk.
    2. Cable support: practical one that it has to work with my computers (ideally HDMI).
    3. Built-in hub: especially when dealing with an ultrabook that only has a few ports of its own.

  20. I look for high refresh rate for gaming responsiveness when playing first person shooters.
I prefer ips panels vs VA for less smearing with darker colors and find 1440p the ideal resolution for picture quality and performance as I cant afford a 3080ti for 4k gaming πŸ™‚

  21. I like 1, a curved monitor to make it easier to see the graphics 2. an adjustable stand as I am a bit shorter than the norm 3. and finally a fast response time.

  22. G3 for the size as it fits well now that I need glasses.
The flat panel makes it esthetically pleasing.
The tilt screen so I can access from different points in my office.

  23. -input and output ports, for use with multi devices
    – high response time for gaming.
-size-when is it ever too big

  24. Refresh rates for responsiveness during gaming. Resolution to see the detail and anti-glare screen options so you see the images how they’re meant to be seen. Mmmmmmmmm
