New OLED TVs for 2023

OLED TVs have long been a favourite for movie fans and gamers. They have spectacular picture quality, true to life colour reproduction, and are the only type of TV that can achieve true black. This year at CES 2023 the big brands brought out their newest OLED TVs, and it looks like this year’s lineup will be brighter than ever before.

LG G3 OLED

LG OLED

LG just announced their latest OLED – the LG G3 OLED TV. LG C series OLEDs are well known as some of the best gaming TVs available thanks to OLED EVO technology, and the LG G3 promises to be even better. It uses Brightness Booster Max technology to increase brightness by 70% over the LG B3 OLED.

Designed with the LG Sixth-gen Alpha a9 AI processor, the LG G3 OLED has AI Picture Pro and AI Sound Pro for unmatched picture and sound quality. It can even create the feeling of 9.1.2 surround sound via the built-in 3.1.2 channel speaker system when using AI Sound Pro mode. With 4 HDMI 2.1. ports, Dolby Vision and Dolby Atmos, VRR, and Sub-10ms input lag, this is a TV can handle everything you want to watch or play.

LG M3 OLED TV

There was a lot of buzz surrounding the massive 97-inch LG M3 OLED TV, and I can’t wait to lay eyes on this TV myself. The new M3-Series is new to LG, and they all use the LG Zero Connect Box. You can connect all of your external devices including gaming consoles, your sound bar, and any streaming boxes to the Zero Connect Box and the TV will connect to them wirelessly. Your TV can be placed on a wall and your Zero Connect Box can be placed elsewhere, so while the TV does plug into power you don’t have to clutter your installation by running HDMI cables behind it.

Panasonic MZ2000 OLED TV

The Panasonic MZ2000 OLED TV uses a new type of panel technology called Micro Lens Array. Using this technology means the Panasonic MZ2000 can achieve 150% peak brightness, a significant jump over other OLEDs. The MZ2000 has an algorithm that improves the quality of video streaming, will have 120Hz VRR for gaming, and supports both AMD FreeSync and Nvidia G-Sync.

There’s no word on when this TV will be released in Canada, but it’s definitely one to watch for.

Samsung QD-OLED TVs

Samsung announced several new additions to their QD-OLED TV lineup. I tested out last year’s version of the QD-OLED, an OLED TV with a quantum dot overlay, and I was so impressed with the ultra-thin panel, the brilliant colour, and intense contrast.

This year’s models include the S95C and S90C. Samsung has said that the new QD-OLED panel in the S95C is 30% brighter than the S90C and has a faster native refresh rate of 144Hz. The S95C model has the Samsung One Connect Box built into the back of the mount so you don’t have cables cluttering your TV’s seamless style. It also has Dolby Atmos 4.2.2 surround sound and gaming features like FreeSync Premium Pro certification and the newly updated Samsung Gaming Hub.

While a lot of great features have been built exclusively into the S95C, the S90C is also a great TV. It doesn’t offer the One Connect box or have the same peak brightness as the S95C, but it does have an improved 2.2.2 audio system with Dolby Atmos, the same Samsung QD-OLED panel, and Samsung Gaming Hub on board.

OLED TVs are brighter for 2023

It’s shaping up to be the best year yet for OLED TVs. If this is the year you’re going to make the leap from LED to OLED, keep an eye out for the latest OLEDs to hit the shelves at Best Buy beginning in spring 2023.
