dyson-OptimizedFor the past week I’ve been testing out the Dyson V8 Absolute and I have to confess I have never loved an appliance more than this beauty.

My youngest son always loves to unpack my Best Buy boxes to see what new “toy” he gets to try out. He’s not your typical child, so he was pretty excited when he saw the Dyson box. Vacuums on a whole are generally not that exciting, probably because they are associated with household chores, but we have never owned a Dyson so we were excited to test one out. I have also always been intrigued by the stick style that the Dyson Absolute boasts.

Read on to see what we found out about the Dyson V8 Absolute, and why it’s now on my 10 year old sons Christmas list (I’m not kidding).

Inside the box

IMG_2102-Optimized-Optimized.JPGUpon opening the Dyson V8 Absolute you will find the main V8 unit, direct drive cleaner head, headsoft roller cleaner head, manual charger and mount tools which include a crevice tool, combination tool, mini motorized tool, mini soft dusting brush, wide nozzle tool and extension hose. I can’t think of any attachments that the V8 doesn’t come with to be honest.

After unpacking all the pieces, within a few short seconds my son had the stick clicked into the main unit and the soft roller head clicked on the end, and he was off vacuuming. I was barely even able to look at it, let alone touch it, but I wasn’t about to complain since my house was getting vacuumed without any complaints.

What the Dyson V8 Absolute has to offer

IMG_2104-Optimized-Optimized.JPGThe Dyson V8 has some new improvements compared to it’s predecessor the V6. It offers better cleaning than many other vacuums on the market, improved bin emptying, outstanding air filtration, good battery life and great tools for all jobs. With all the attachments that come with the V8 you can pretty much vacuum anything, including hard surfaces, carpet, stairs, furniture and even your car. In fact vacuuming your car has never been easier than it is with the Absolute.

A few of the best things that the V8 has to offer is how lightweight it is, which adds on to the already easy to use system. I also was impressed with the noise level it produced, and then of course the suction power is amazing.

With Dysons V8 Absolute you are getting:

  • suction power that uses 15 radial cyclones and two tiers
  • a V8 motor
  • a Lithium-ion battery that lasts up to 40 minutes
  • a max power mode for bigger messes requiring a deep clean
  • HEPA filtration system that captures allergens
  • dirt ejection system that empties with one quick action
  • lightweight design weighing only 5lbs
  • 8 cleaning tools
  • ergonomic grip
  • bagless hygienic dust bin
  • easy to use battery charger

Dyson Absolute or Animal?

The Dyson V8 comes in two different styles, the Animal and the Absolute. Both come with the same main unit and are equal in the length of time the battery lasts. They also come with all the same cleaning tools and attachments except for the soft roller cleaner head which only comes in the Absolute version.

You really can’t go wrong with either vacuums, you really only have to decide which attachments you’ll be requiring to meet your cleaning wants and needs.

Testing and Results`

Right away my youngest son was obsessed with the Dyson. He was changing out the tools and vacuuming all over the house and couches. In fact I had to wait until he was at school the next day before I got my turn, and I was equally as impressed with the V8 as he was. Maybe we’ll have to both put it on our Christmas list this year and share it.

My first impression when I pushed in the power button was I was amazed at how quiet it was. Secondly it is so easy to use. You simply decide if you need the stick attachment or if you’ll just be using the main unit with a tool attachment. From there simply click in your tool of choice, press in the power button and start vacuuming.

Once I started vacuuming, I was blown away at the suction power. The new soft roller head cleaner that you get with the Absolute version works more than perfectly on any hard surfaces. I used it both on my laminate flooring as well as my tiles. There’s something so satisfying about hearing all the dust and dirt being sucked up off your floors. I emptied out the canister on my floor and vacuumed through it. You can see by the clear line between the dirty floor and clean floor in the image here, how great the cleaning power the V8 has.

As a house with cats, especially right now since they are shedding like crazy, I especially loved how easy and convenient the Dyson is to use. There’s no dragging the vacuum out from under the stairs and unwinding the cord and plugging it in, you simply grab the unit and press the power button.

One of my favourite attachments was the small sized motorized head style tool. It’s perfect for vacuuming your couches as well as the stairs, and the suction power is incredible. You actually have to use some arm muscles to push it on the stairs because it suctions itself to them so well. The stairs get so much traffic on them on a daily basis I find they need vacuuming more regularly than the rest of my house, and being able to just grab the main unit with an attachment is so easy and much less time consuming. I raved about how impressed I was about cleaning the stairs, I even had my hubby testing it out.

I also loved that the main V8 unit can be used as is with no attachments. It’s really convenient for when I needed to do a quick spill or cat hair clean up.

Overall there wasn’t anything I didn’t love about the Dyson V8 Absolute, and I’ll be dropping hints for the rest of the year in hopes that my hubby catches on and gets me one for Christmas.

  1. I really like where Dyson goes. I have V10 model and actually its just have 20 additional chrage-free minutes. And this is all that differs it from the V8 pet or not pet. they all are just the same. Even removable heads are the same that are staffed in the bundle.
    But prices vary =)

  2. I am happy that it has a longer lasting charge, but I’m curious about how long it would take to recharge after completely draining the battery? A quick recharge would seal the deal for me!!
    Thanks for you review!

  3. I have the DC72. Thanks for showing how the V8 canister empties.  My biggest complaint on the DC72 was trying to get the dust out of the tiny canister when it was stuck.
