Alienware is a name synonymous with hardcore PC gaming. Whether you’re fighting off a Zerg swarm, adventuring your way to level 70 in Diablo 3 or freeing London of Nazi invaders in Wolfenstein: The New Order, the ultimate video game experience is on a PC and Alienware has long been a respected name among Windows gamers. And while gaming laptops offer a very good experience, to get the best, you need to go with a tower or desktop gaming PC. This is the form factor that has the space for the monster video card, the high performance CPU and all the other components that make a game look its best. Alienware has just released two new desktop gaming PCs that are available now at Best Buy: The Alienware X51-R2 and the awesome Alienware R4.

The Need For Speed

Gaming PCs are driven by one need: speed. The faster the PC is, the better it performs with games. A general purpose PC needs to balance many needs, but a gaming PC is designed from the ground up to offer blazing performance —the most powerful CPU possible, the best graphics card to push as many pixels as possible as quickly as possible, fast storage, fast networking, and the components and case needed to keep these high powered components cool ( for more detail on the relative importance of individual components).

Alienware uses the tagline “Never settle forever” to describe its desktop gaming PCs, renowned for packing the power needed today and for next year’s games. You won’t just know an Alienware PC from its gaming chops, these machines have an unmistakable look too.

Two of Alienware’s highly regarded desktop gaming PCs are now available at Best Buy.

Alienware R4

One of the biggest, baddest gaming PCs you can buy, the R4 features a liquid cooled CPU and automated Active Venting to keep the heat thrown off by the 3.7 GHz Intel Core i7 (with turbo boost to a blistering 4.2 GHz) and NVIDIA GeForce GTX 770 graphics card from melting the whole thing to a pile of plastic slag.

Other key features of the R4 include 16GB of quad-channel DDR3 RAM, a 3TB serial ATA 3 hard drive, Blu-ray combo drive, Gigabit Ethernet, dual-band 802.11a/n Wi-Fi, 240 W power supply and plenty of ports for attaching peripherals.

You can find full specs on the Alienware R4 product page.

Alienware X51-R2

Not everyone who wants to get the most out of their PC gaming experience has an unlimited budget —or unlimited space.

That doesn’t mean there’s not an Alienware gaming PC for this demographic.

The Alienware X51-R2 is a compact box (roughly 20 cm on a size and just 8.4 cm tall) that’s priced less than some general purpose PCs. Despite that, the X51-R2 is built for gaming with a 3.4 GHz Core i7, 8 GB of DDR3 RAM, an NVIDIA GeForce GTX 745 video card with 4GB of dedicated video memory, a 1TB hard drive and all the ports you’ll need for peripherals and to make games both look and sound good.

And speaking of looking good, one glance and the X51-R2 is unmistakably an Alienware.

Not Just For Games

While these Alienware PCs are designed with gaming in mind, there’s nothing to say you can’t use one as your general purpose PC, especially if you need power for crunching numbers or multimedia editing. One of these glowing beasts on your desk would certainly make a statement…
