Pikmin fans rejoice! Pikmin 3 Deluxe is coming to the Nintendo Switch family of systems on October 30, 2020. Originally released on the Wii U, Pikmin 3 Deluxe includes more content, more options for co-op play and accessibility settings so that everyone can join in on the fun.

Pikmin fans will be happy to know that fun features from the original Wii U game also return, such as the in-game camera, which allows you to take photos of the game’s lush environments and curious creatures.

Pikmin 3 Deluxe isn’t your garden-variety adventure

If you’ve never played a Pikmin game before, you are in for a treat. In Pikmin 3 Deluxe You are in command of a crew of three explorers and a squad of Pikmin. Your goal is simple, solve the puzzles that are presented before you and survive brutal attacks from foreign lifeforms.

The game begins as your spaceship crash lands on planet PNF-404. Your crew and squad of Pikmin set out to explore a variety of lush environments, such as the snow-covered Distant Tundra, the Twilight River and the Garden of Hope, all teeming with wondrous and formidable lifeforms. Your team of Pikmin are ready and willing to take on and take whatever obstacles come in your way.

Different coloured Pikmin offer a variety of many helpful abilities and strengths to help guide you along the way. For example, Winged Pikmin, can flutter their wings over terrain such as water and pits. And, Blue Pikmin can help you collect items other Pikmin can’t reach by using their ability to breathe underwater. In order to be successful in Pikmin 3 Deluxe you must Strategically select the right Pikmin for the task, delegate projects and change between captains.

What’s new in Pikmin 3 Deluxe?

Pikmin 3 Deluxe has a whole slew of additions and enhancements over its Wii U counterpart. In Pikmin 3 Deluxe you can now play the whole Story mode in co-op with a friend.New side-story missions can also be played in co-op along with all the Mission mode DLC stages from the original game’s release.

Additionally, there are new difficulty options, lock-on targeting, optional hints and the choice to play at a more relaxed pace. Pikmin veteran will be happy to know that Pikmin 3 Deluxe includes new challenges, new side-story missions featuring Olimar and Louie, and head-to-head multiplayer matches available in Bingo Battle.

I’ve been a Pikmin fan since the first game was released in 2001 on the Nintendo GameCube. And, it just so happens, that Pikmin 3 is my favourite in the series. I’m excited to play Pikmin 3 Deluxe and experience the new side-story missions, and play the Story mode with a friend.

  1. I appreciate that Nintendo is bringing another Wii U game to the Switch and that it will include all the previous DLC, but knowing Nintendo this will be another $80 full priced game. The Switch has been around now for over 3 years and this game was 4 years old when the Switch launched. I don’t know how Nintendo can justiffy launching a 7 year old game at full retail price.

    That being said, I do like that a new batch of players will have the opportunity to play it, but I wish Nintendo used a better pricing structure for bringing back older games.
