Co-operative gaming continues to surge in popularity. From battle royale games to looter-shooters and everything in between, players are always in need of a great headset that will combine comfort, crisp audio, and clear voice chat. Today we will be taking a look at the Logitech G332 gaming headset.
Under the hood
The Logitech G332 gaming headset is compatible with all major gaming platforms. This includes PlayStation 4, Xbox One, Nintendo Switch, PC, and mobile. I enjoyed a solid, comparable experience while testing on each of these gaming ecosystems. There is a single volume control dial on the right ear cup which functions on all platforms as well.
Like most mid-tier headsets in its price range, the Logitech G332 gaming headset boasts 50mm audio drivers. They perform as well as expected, delivering deep rich audio for full gaming immersion. In testing the Logitech G332 gaming headset on multiple platforms I found that they certainly always deliver a robust and pleasing audio experience.
Voice chat
Equally important to a gaming headset’s audio output is its capacity for voice chat. The Logitech G332 gaming headset features a 6 mm microphone for crisp, clear communication with your squad. The mic flips up and down on a 90-degree rotation, muting automatically when in its upright inversion.
However, the design of the microphone arm for the Logitech G332 gaming headset is not my favourite. The arm is somewhat flexible and adjustable—which is certainly a must in my books, but the plastic material is a bit thick and not particularly pleasing to the eye.
The thick plastic makes its capacity for flexibility and adjustment very limited. It can adjust left and right, but the cheaper material has difficulty holding its position on an already short-range of motion. Furthermore, the bendable part of the arm cannot flex up or down (although the arm as a whole can).
However, these minor aesthetic flaws certainly do not affect chat performance. While testing the Logitech G332 gaming headset with my partner while playing Tom Clancy’s The Division 2 our voice chat experience was virtually flawless. Our communication was clean, and with precise clarity, we were able to coordinate our attacks on the scavengers plaguing Washington D.C.
Comfort and style
The Logitech G332 gaming headset has a sleek black design with a red leatherette trim surrounding the ear cups. The same shade of red also provides a fabric layer inside the ear cups. Overall this design is very appealing from a minimalist perspective. It’s clean and sharp without a lot of gaudy and unnecessary flourishes.
The ear cups themselves are made of black leatherette material, meant to stay comfortable over long play sessions. Similarly, there is a soft leatherette cushion on the inside of the headband as well. The headband also makes the typical in-and-out adjustment on each side, allowing for a proper fit on most teen to adult head sizes.
One very neat feature of the Logitech G332 gaming headset not common in every other headset is its rotating ear cups. Both cups actually rotate on a 90-degree vertical axis, meaning they can turn to accommodate a wider angle and sit perfectly flush with your head while covering your ears. This creates even more comfort specifically tailored to the player’s head size and shape.
Staying cool
While the leatherette padding is soft and form-fitting, it isn’t quite as breathable as other materials such as the mesh fabric and foam padding that can be found in other headsets. This means that over long periods of play, the Logitech G332 gaming headset may potentially be prone to overheating or the accumulation of moisture.
Luckily, I did not really experience this issue. Lately, I’ve been replaying through one of my all-time favourite titles—The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim—on Xbox One X. In doing so I put the Logitech G332 gaming headset through multiple lengthy play sessions of at least 3 hours or more.
In the relatively cool environment of my entertainment room in a chilly March, I did not have any major issues with heat. Nevertheless, the Logitech G332 gaming headset does run a little hotter under and around the ear cups than other headsets. Keep this in mind if you do a lot of gaming in the warmer, more humid summer months. The leatherette material certainly has the potential to create warmth over longer periods of play.
One lengthy reach
The Logitech G332 gaming headset is a wired headset, and boy oh boy does it give you a lot of wire for the money. Ending in a standard 3.5 mm headset jack, the cord comes in at a whopping 6 feet in length! This is way more slack than most wired headsets offer.
I can understand the value to some in having such a long cord. There is definitely nothing more frustrating than a wired product that just doesn’t have enough reach. That said, for me, this is an odd length to go with.
For starters, if using the headset in conjunction with a PlayStation 4 or Xbox One, where the wire connects to the controller, this is simply way too much. When playing on these consoles I wound up with an extra 4 feet of cord pooling up in my lap. It’s frankly comical for most gaming scenarios.
Unfortunately for me, the extra length still wasn’t quite enough to come in handy otherwise. I would have loved to try this headset out with my Nintendo Switch in docked mode, but even 6 feet wasn’t quite enough to accommodate this distance in my large theatre room.
Still, for some this extra length could be a welcome bonus. For those gaming on PC, for example, may greatly benefit if they are plugging into a floor tower. It suits similar scenarios where the headphone jack may be a bit further off from the player’s proximity as well.
The Logitech G332 Gaming Headset is a suitable budget headset with some modestly nice features
The Logitech G332 gaming headset performs very well, with great audio and clear voice chat functionality. The headset is comfortable for long periods—although I might hesitate to rely on the leatherette cups to stay consistently cool in warmer climates. The rotating ear cups do allow for a greater range in comfort however.
Depending on the distance of reach you are looking for, the 6-foot long cord could be a bonus or a very mild annoyance. It’s a lot more slack than is necessary for most scenarios. Yet for those who need to cover a bit of distance with their wired headset, I can definitely say I’ve never seen one with a longer reach.
