Fortnite Last Laugh BundleThe clown prince of crime is coming to Fortnite this fall. The Last Laugh Bundle arrives November 17th and will include classic DC foes including The Joker. In addition to Batman’s archnemesis, Poison Ivy will be joining the lineup along with Midas Rex. Joker will also have his own bag of tricks packing his own sleek outfit, Laugh Riot Back Bling, Bad Joke Pickaxe, The Joker’s Revenge Pickaxe, and the “Pick a Card” Emote.

It’s also been confirmed that part of the launch event will see much of Twisted Towers transformed into Gotham city. Hopefully we’ll get some interesting Batman-themed easter eggs along with all the other DC offerings.

Fortnite DCThe bat signal seems to be burning bright over the island as many DC heroes and villains have also returned. Batman, Catwoman and Harley Quinn are back and their skins are available for purchase now. As the roster of Gotham legends grows the DC FanDome event looms large, signalling the possibility more could be on the way for Fortnite + DC crossover content.

The Last Laugh Bundle will be available for digital and physical purchase and comes packing 1,000 V-Bucks. The retail version is available on PlayStation 4, Nintendo Switch, and Xbox One.

Developer Epic Games also states the content will be ready for the next-gen limelight: “It will also arrive in time for the release of the PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X next-generation consoles.” With that, we might have gotten a Killer Croc sized hint at the next-gen consoles release window.

Fortnite HistoryThe history of Fortnite

Before Fortnite was mingling with the likes of Batman and friends its story began as a player vs. environmentexperience. It had gamers battle CPU controlled zombie-like enemy types called “Husks.” That’s right, one of the biggest battle royale games on the planet didn’t start out as a player vs. player show down at all.

Thanks to the early success of PLAYERUNKNOWN’S BATTLEGROUNDS genre defining battle royale experience, Fortnite shifted its course. Soon the free-to-play Fortnite Battle Royale was released garnering immediate popularity. In just two weeks it had 10 million players and continued to grow. The title also broke down barriers introducing a cross play component that allowed console, PC and mobile players to game together.

When Tyler “Ninja” Blevins teamed up with world famous musician Drake for a few rounds of Fortnite on Twitch, it pushed the game’s popularity into the stratosphere. It went from a video game to a cultural phenomenon almost overnight. Epic’s unwavering commitment to the title has helped it to continue to grow.

The company has hosted esports tournaments, live music concerts and even full-length movies all within Fortnite’s virtual world. The 250 million player count comes as no surprise, it will be interesting to see what’s next with the game.

Fortnite PlatformsFortnite friendly platforms

The beauty of a game like Fortnite is just about every platform out there supports the game. Whether you are on the PS4, Xbox One, Nintendo Switch or PC the Battle Bus awaits! Epic has done a great job optimizing the game to hit a steady 60 FPS, but certain hardware offers distinct advantages.

If you are looking for the most optimized console experience look no further than the PlayStation 4 Pro and Xbox One X. Both consoles will give you much sharper images on a 4K TV. The lighting, shadows, and foliage look much better and the gameplay is even smoother as a result. The home console experience looks to only get better with the PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X launching later in 2020.

If you are looking to play Fortnite on the go, the Nintendo Switch has got you covered. The hybrid console will let you dock and play on the big screen at home and the small screen as you travel. In my experience the game performs quite well on the Switch. It’s my favourite portable option with tactile Joy Cons over a mobile touch screen.

The battle royale genre continues to evolve with new titles making their own mark. Games that deliver the high-octane thrills of being the last player standing are arriving all the time. If you enjoy Fortnite, definitely give these games a try:

Call of Duty: Warzone (PS4, PC, Xbox One)

Originally launching with 2019’s Call of Duty: Modern Warfare, the now free-to-play game is one of the premiere FPS battle royale experiences. The massive combat sandbox allows up to 150 players to battle it out via various game modes. Season 5 of Warzone just launched with the opening of Verdansk Stadium and a high-speed train to battle on. These unique environments offer a fresh, high octane experience for you and your squad.

Hyperscape (PS4, PC, Xbox One)

Battle Royale goes urban-futuristic with Ubisoft Montreal’s free-to-play Hyperscape. You face off up to 100 players in the virtual city of Neo Arcadia. You can role solo or join 3 other players in your battle for dominance. The twist in Hyperscape is you can use hacks that give you abilities like invisibility and healing. If you can manage these hacks properly you can gain the upper hand on your opponents.

  1. Fortnite does seem to be in the news a lot lately. It looks like this upgrade has the possibility to draw in a bunch of DC comics and films fans.

I’m not a big battle royale fan, the only one I have really gotten into was Tetris 99, but Fall Guys certainly looks fun. I’d love to try that out sometime, but my PC doesn’t connect well to wifi and I don’t have a PS4. I wonder if this could make it to Xbox One or Switch eventually.

    Thanks for the article, Matthew!

    • Hello Ian,

Thanks for reading, Fortnite and Fall Guys are a blast! I’m sure Fall Guys will eventually make it way to other platforms soon enough.
