Guardians of the Galaxy

2017 has truly been a phenomenal year for gaming so far. The great news is the trend continues in May! Highly anticipated games are releasing all month-long, including Prey, Injustice 2, Fire Emblem Echoes, Guardian of the Galaxy, and much more. Get your consoles and controllers ready, this is going to be an incredible month!

Marvel’s Guardians of the Galaxy: The Telltale Series

Telltale Games’ latest episodic adventure is based on the highly acclaimed Guardians of the Galaxy comic book series by Marvel. The first episode released digitally in mid-April, and with this retail disc you’ll that, plus four more episodes coming soon. I’m a huge fan of Telltale’s past series, including Game of Thrones and The Walking Dead, so I can’t wait to play Guardians of the Galaxy!

Prey

Arkane Studios and Bethesda Softworks, the team behind the Dishonored series, are back with a re-imagining of Prey. From what we’ve seen so far, this new game is giving us action-packed gameplay full of alien encounters. You play as Morgan Yu, an employee of Transtar assigned to the Talos I space station to research the DNA of the Typhon alien species. Somehow though, the Typhon have escaped containment—and you’re their next prey!

Birthdays the Beginning

From NIS America comes Birthdays the Beginning, a unique simulation game where you can experience the birth and evolution of life. In the game you’ll be able to create your own world, shaping the land as you see fit and introducing new life to the ecosystem. You can even create a world where dinosaurs and humans live side by side. This game looks colourful, cheerful, and fun!

Injustice 2

The sequel to 2013’s Injustice: Gods Among Us has nearly arrived! This fighting game brings back fan-favourite super heroes and villains like Batman, Joker, Wonder Woman, and Flash. It also introduces more than a dozen new combatants including Scarecrow, Robin, Poison Ivy, and Doctor Fate. New to Injustice 2 is the Gear System, a loot-dropping system that rewards your characters with unique and powerful gear. The first game was awesome, so I have high expectations for sure-to-be amazing sequel!

Farpoint VR

PlayStation VR fans are getting an incredible new VR space adventure this month with Farpoint. It’s set on a hostile alien planet and your mission is to locate stranded scientists and escape the planet before it’s too late. Hostile indigenous alien lifeforms will try to stop you in your tracks—luckily though you have an arsenal of weapons to protect yourself with!

Fire Emblem Echoes: Shadows of Valentia

Following the recent release of Fire Emblem Heroes, Nintendo’s first mobile Fire Emblem game, comes a new full-length entry for Nintendo 3DS. Fire Emblem Echoes is a complete remake of the 1992 Nintendo Famicom game Fire Emblem Gaiden. This updated version features beautifully enhanced 3D graphics, fully voiced cinematics and story dialogue, and new amiibo compatibility. The original game never released in North America, so this is your chance to play a Fire Emblem classic.

Disgaea 5 Complete

The hit role-playing game Disgaea 5 is coming to Nintendo Switch with its most complete version available. Disgaea 5 Complete gives you hours and hours of amazing turn-based combat, along with the series’ trademark storytelling packed with humour. The Nintendo Switch version contains all previously released DLC, adding 8 bonus scenarios, 7 new characters, and classes from past Disgaea games!

Ultra Street Fighter II: The Final Challengers

The legendary fighting game Street Fighter II returns for a new era. This updated version is playable in two graphical modes: in gorgeous high-definition, and classic pixel art from the original game. All of the original fighters and bosses are included, along with the first new roster addition in nearly 20 years—Evil Ryu and Violent Ken. The Final Challengers also features a brand new “Way of the Hado” mode where you can practice Hadoken and Shoryuken moves in first-person!

Star Trek Bridge Crew VR

Ever wanted to pilot your Star Trek starfleet ship? You can do just that in Star Trek Bridge Crew, developed by Ubisoft! Using your PlayStation VR headset, you and three of your friends can take command of a spaceship as you search for a new homeworld for the Vulcans. Each player takes up one role aboard the bridge, either captain, tactical officer, helm officer, or engineer. You’ll need to communicate and work together in order to defend your ship and complete missions!
