60.jpgRemember the days when a 32” TV weighed about the same as a small car, cost you one month’s salary, and required an industrial strength TV stand that took up the majority of your living space? Thankfully that’s all ancient history. These days, there is a TV to fit every lifestyle, every space, and perhaps most importantly, every budget. But with so many options, how do you choose? It can be difficult, and that’s why I’ve done the legwork for you and have selected five HDTVs that I think are the best value for what they bring to the table.

Best Value Under 40-Inches

My Recommendation: Insignia 32” 720p 60Hz LED TV

32.jpg

At 720p and 60Hz, the Insignia 32” is the ideal supplementary TV for your den, bedroom, or – dare I say it – bathroom. It features two HDMI ports for you to plug in your home entertainment favourites, and two stereo speakers for full sound. It also comes equipped with V-chip parental controls so you parents out there can protect your kids from inappropriate content. It’s worth noting that the Insignia 32” is not a “Smart TV” but is definitely the best value HDTV in this category.

Best Value in the 40-Inches

My recommendation: Sony 40” 1080p 60Hz LED HDTV

Sony-40.jpg

So, you’ve got a little more room to work with? The Sony 40” is the perfect choice. Not only do you get amazing picture quality but this TV’s Clear Resolution Enhancer engine ensures that every image that passes the screen is super clear. It also features Sony’s proprietary Motionflow XR240 technology, which eliminates blur on fast moving images and “Game Mode,” which makes your gaming experience seamless. I mean, there’s nothing worse than a delay when you’re playing Candy Crush – I kid. Add to that two HDMI inputs, one USB port, Sound Booster technology and Energy Star V5.3 and V6 certification, and this Sony is definitely the best value in this category.

Best Value in the 50-Inches

My recommendation: Samsung 55” 1080p 240Hz LED Smart TV

50.jpg

If an HDTV in the 50” plus category is what you’re looking for, then look no further than the Samsung 55” 1080p 240Hz LED Smart TV. First of all, this is one sexy looking TV. It features a slim, sleek design with a modern looking metallic stand that suits virtually every décor. But looks aren’t all it brings to the table. The Samsung 55” comes equipped with built-in WiFi and the Samsung Smart Hub, which allows you to stream your favourite video services, websites, and social media platforms. It also supports 3D video so you can enjoy 3D content with its included glasses making the  Samsung 55” well priced for all it has to offer.

Best Value in the 60-Inches

My recommendation: Panasonic VIERA 60” 1080p 120Hz 3D LED Smart TV

60.jpg

So, 60″ is on your list? Then the Panasonic VIERA 60” 1080p 120Hz 3D LED Smart TV is where your search should stop. This bad boy is loaded with a plethora of features, including: advanced backlight scanning technology to minimize flicker and therefore ensure smooth image sequences; HEXA-Processing Engine, which analyzes and optimizes images to ensure they are as crisp and detailed as possible; and VIERA Connect, which allows you to access video-on-demand services, the web, TV shows, games, educational content, and a whole lot more. It’s also 3D ready and comes with four pairs of glasses so you can watch 3D content with your friends or family. In all honestly, the list of bells and whistles on this TV are endless, making it the best value in this category.

Best Value in the 70+ Inches

My recommendation: Sharp AQUOS 70” 1080p 120Hz LED Smart TV

70.jpgIf you’re an apartment dweller like me where the thought of a 70” TV in a 200 square foot living room is equal amounts intrusive and absurd, then you can stop reading. However, if you are lucky enough to have adequate space to house such a TV, well, you’re pretty lucky … especially when you see how much you can get for your money with the Sharp AQUOS 70” Smart TV. As far as pricing is concerned, it lands pretty much in the middle of the pack for 70” TVs, but is packed with features. First, it comes with the Sharp SmartCentral user interface, which makes accessing popular apps and social media a breeze, but also features an X-Gen LED panel that lets more light through so your media is delivered in uber-super-duper razor sharp LED. It’s also got a ton of inputs and outputs so you can customize your entertainment experience to suit your needs.

I can’t believe how we can watch TV on our phones and tablets!  Telus’s Optik on the Go is incredible.
