Apple announced new headphones this week; AirPods Max are over-ear wireless headphones designed for a premium audio experience. Apple’s AirPods Max have all the features users have come to expect of AirPods, including Active Noise Cancellation to nix outside noise and Transparency Mode for hearing and interacting with the world around you. AirPods Max will be available in five colours, including space gray, silver, sky blue, green, and pink, and are available to order starting today.

Apple spent several years developing the new AirPods Max, aiming to create headphones with outstanding acoustic performance. “AirPods are the most popular headphones in the world, beloved for their effortless setup, incredible sound quality, and iconic design. With AirPods Max, we are bringing that magical AirPods experience to a stunning over-ear design with high-fidelity audio,” said Greg Joswiak, Apple’s senior vice president of Worldwide Marketing in a press release. “The custom acoustic design, combined with powerful H1 chips, and advanced software enable AirPods Max to use computational audio to wirelessly deliver the ultimate personal listening experience.”

Apple gave AirPods Max a breathable knit mesh canopy, spanning the headband to distribute weight and reduce pressure from the band. A stainless steel headband frame is said to lend strength and flexibility “for a wide variety of head shapes and sizes” and memory foam cushions create a more effective seal to block out sound bleed and noise intrusion.
Apple says it crated a special mechanism to attach the ear cups to the band so that it can more evenly balance and distribute ear cup pressure, and allows each cup to independently pivot and rotate.
Digital Crown re-emerges on AirPods Max
Apple’s Digital Crown, which you’ve seen on the Apple Watch, re-appears here on the headphones. The dial gives users volume control and the ability to play or pause audio, skip tracks, answer or end phone calls, and activate Siri.

When it comes to the sound quality, Apple has gone all-out. AirPods Max have a 40-mm Apple-designed dynamic driver “that provides rich, deep bass, accurate mid-ranges, and crisp, clean high-frequency extension so every note can be heard. A unique dual neodymium ring magnet motor allows AirPods Max to maintain total harmonic distortion of less than 1 percent across the entire audible range, even at maximum volume,” reads the company’s press release.

AirPods Max come with a special charging case to keep them safe and juiced-up. With an expected battery life of up to 20 hours, they should last all day, and then some.
AirPods Max additional features
AirPods Max will have some additional features including automatic switching which lets users switch sound between iPhone, iPad, and Mac. Plus, audio sharing allows for streaming of sound between two sets of AirPods on iPhone, iPad, iPod touch, or Apple TV 4K.
While I am debating on getting myself a Pro Max 12 soon, this products and its price are absurd. Just spend $500 if you want top-quality audio and buy some Sony headphones. I’m still on the 1st gen Sony MDR1000X from Best Buy and they are wonderful. They’ve been through rain, snow, sweat, dropped, and sat on and they are still 100% functional.
They should be called AirHeads, because that’s who’s going to buy them.
