You can choose to mount it to create a designated theatre room, or you can keep it mobile so one day it’s in the living room for a movie, the next day in the basement for gaming, or in the kids room for a sleep over. How amazing is the BenQ 4K projector

This is probably something that many people are wondering. We asked Erin Lawrence, Editor of Home Theatre on the blog and also a veteran of television news with CTV in Calgary, to try this projector and give us her honest opinion.

In her written review and video review, Erin highly endorsed this projector. Here are some of the highlights of her review:

  1. The picture was amazing, despite her not having a white wall or a projection screen as a backdrop. (She actually projected it onto a blue wall and still she thought the image was great!)
  2. The image was bright, clear and showed accurate, crisp colours, even when the room was brightly lit.
  3. The fan (something that used to drive me crazy on an older projector I once had in my home) was barely noticeable and did not take away from the enjoyment of using this projector.

She also pointed out some of the things that people will consider adding to their home to make the experience even better.

How would you improve your own home theatre experience

Okay so let’s just suppose that you were the winner of this contest. Picture that! Where will you place it in your home? Would you mount it on the ceiling, or keep it mobile so you can move it from room to room?

Importantly, what technology would you need to make the home theatre experience truly complete? I’m not talking about a popcorn maker: that’s a given! Would you be looking to add a projection screen, or would you just choose a white wall (or paint a wall white for this best results). Would you look at getting a surround sound or ATMOS system ?Erin said that the sound from the projector is okay, but your home theatre would be much better with great home theatre audio. Would you add a 4K blu-ray player and start collecting a library of 4K movies to show on this 4K projector?

There are so many possibilities, and I didn’t even talk about home theatre seating. What would you consider adding to your home if you win this amazing projector?

  2. I already have my home theater but I don’t have a 4k projector. If I win this projector it will easily make one of my dreams come true. I will replace my projector for this BenQ 4k right away, put down my motorized projector screen, play my 4k movies, dim the lights down, turn on my surround system and call in sick to work because no body will be able to get me out of my home theater. I will be watching 4k movies all day and all night.

  5. First of all to feel like a king I would put a crown,
    then with one “click” get my projection screen-sliding down.
    To make atmosphere exiting enough,
    I would turn up gorgeous and glorious surround sound.
    Just to make sure to get pleasure to my eye,
    I would use 4K blu-ray player that will satisfy…
    Well as we know everything starts with “one small step”
    I will add all those above if I win projector before them.

  13. Its simple, a large comfy couch, a warm blanket to cover my loved ones, fluffy pillows to sink into while we settle in to enjoy our movie.

  15. On nice summer nights,, I play outside movies in my backyard for the kids in the neighborhood. Time to upgrade to 4K… 🙂

  16. Probably would add a PS4 pro to take advantage of the 4K. And a projector screen of course as that is necessary to complete the room.

  23. Popcorn and good company. Already have the reclining sofa and surround sound. This would complete the experience.

  24. New couch, mini fridge and renewed game-center subscription. All I need to complete the setup. Oh and some frosty wobbly pops in the fridge.

  25. Things I would plan for a 4K home theater:
    A 4K Projector (if I win this 🙂 )
    High speed internet: It is already in place
    A 4K HDR streamer: I already have Roku
    A Blu-ray player: May be (if I cant play it with PS4)
    4K and HDR content: May be Netflix, Amazon
    Receiver: Yes will need to add one (may be Dolby ATMOS)
    New cables?: Already have HDMI v2 cable and good audio cables in place
    Speakers: I will see if I need to change my Jamo speakers

  42. A good sound system, a vintage popcorn maker, some theater style lazy boys, a mini fridge and of course good company to enjoy it with.

  45. Since before starting a family my husband has always wanted to create a home theatre scene. To pull it all together we would need to add a projector screen and I’m sure he would love a 4k blu-ray dvd player. Our sofas recline with cupholders so I think we’re all set! Our little guy would sure love this experience!
