Great toys hold a special place in our hearts. They create great experiences at the time we play with them. They also leave a treasured memory that we can look back on and smile as we get older. The coolest toys do something a little extra. Really cool toys unite a generation, and sometimes multiple generations. Many of the hottest toys these days are tech toys: robots, drones etc. Which tech toy of 2016 do you think will make the biggest impression in a child’s life, or in your life? Just tell us what you think the coolest toy of 2016 is and you might win a huge trove of the newest toys from Best Buy.

bb8Every year new toys are released that have the potential to become a child’s special treasure. Best Buy carries many of these. Best Buy also has the greatest selection of tech toys. Last year I fell in love with the Sphero BB-8 App-enabled  Droid. It’s the kind of toy that will resonate in a person’s memories for decades.

(Four of the new special edition version of this droid are included in this contest’s prizes!)

 

You may find it difficult to decide what the coolest toy is this year. It’s not always easy to predict what will be the best toy in a given year, but really there are no wrong answers. For example, I asked my wife which tech toy she remembers as having been really cool when she was young and her answer, the Fisher Price parking garage (shown below), really surprised me! Note that Best Buy carries a Melissa & Doug version of this parking garage. I too had one of those vintage Fisher Price garages when I was young and played with it incessantly. I hadn’t thought about that toy in many years, but just the mention of it brought back a ton of great memories.

Kids nowadays may not view a parking garage as a tech toy given the options that exist. The prizes in this contest contain many of the best tech toys available in 2016. We have divided the more than $12000 in prizes into 6 toys bundles:

  1. The coolest tech toy i received when i was young was my robocop action figure with a light up laser (sort of laser) feature and pre-recorded robocop phrases!

  4. The coolest toy at Best Buy would have to be the DJI Phantom quadcopter drone – I know my husband would love one for Christmas !

  5. My parents were never big on technology especially when I was growing up so I didn’t have many tech toys, or video games. I do remember one toy I got called “Pixel Chix.” It was very similar to a tomogatchi pet except they were bigger and the background was 3D. I thought it was so cool and played with it a lot, even though looking back I remember it being very repetitive.

  6. Coolest tech toy this year? Probably any 4K drone, like the Yunneec Typhoon. It looks amazing, and it’s defiantly a great toy for both kids and adults.

  8. I just watched a video of the. Sphero Spec Ed BB-8 Droid + Force Band. Is the coolest tech toy available at Best Buy in 2016. Along with the DJI Phantom 4 drone. Oh pretty please I have been a good boy all year long. I even ate all my green vegetables!

  9. My favourite tech toy that I received was my Nintendo 64. I’ve never been more excited to see a tech toy before. It brought some of my best memories playing with my brother and friends and we still play it today.

  11. The coolest tech toy in 2016 is BB8. The popularity of Star Wars is huge right now and it’s going to be reflected in sales of that tech toy.

  12. The best tech toy I received as a kid was Pong! One of the original games of the tech era – spent hours playing that game 🙂

  16. The coolest tech toy I received as a kit was a microscope kit (what can I say? I was a bit of a nerd!) I spent hours looking at the slides that came with the kit, as well as making my own slides to discover the world around me.

  17. The coolest tech this year definitely has to be BB-8 with the Force Band: not only is it Star Wars (in what universe is Star Wars *not* cool?!?!), but the fact that it responds gestures that you make make it very cool. May the Force be with you!!!

  18. The coolest toy I received as a kid was a hand held electronic football game by Mattel in the 70’s. I played it for years, and I still have it today.

  21. I would have to say The best tech toy I ever got as a kid was the atari. There were so many different games for this system. Despite the graphics it was the system of my time. Space invaders, Donkey Kong, Q-Bert (my all time favorite)..

  22. Sphero BB-8 App-enabled Droid I think is the best toy of 2016. It surely keeps you playing weather your young or just a kid at heart. Love how his body is able to move around without any issues. This is my choice.

  25. The coolest toy for Christmas 2016 is the Yunneec Typhoon 4K. My son and I would enjoy many hours playing it. As a kid , my coolest Christmas gift was a my fisher price record player. I still have it today for my kids to play it.

  27. Cool tech from youth was the fisher price record player with star wars read along records. I miss R2D2 tell me to flip the page.

  28. The best tech toy I ever received as a kid was a PlayStation! I remember getting it when I was around 10 and used to play it all the time, invite my friends over and trade games…so much fun! Made me a fan of gaming to this day.

  33. The coolest tech toy I ever received as a kid has to be the original Nintendo. I was only young but it provided so much fun for a long time

  36. I think the Yuneec Typhoon H Hexacopter Drone is the coolest tech toy of 2016! So much fun to fly these things around especially with a camera to view a different perspective on things, which is great for a kid with a wild imagination.

  37. coolest tech toy I got as a child was a Commodore 64. Great machine with decent specs (for the time) that fueled a lifelong interest in gadgets for me.

  38. The coolest toy at Best Buy is easily BB8. What better way to cap off 2016 than a cool toy from the biggest movie of all time

  41. When I was younger, the coolest tech toy I received from my parents was my GameCube. It was an iconic gaming system and even though I had Nintendo handhelds, the GameCube captured my attention. Looking back, I recall many fond memories with my parents and my friends with that system and I will always love it with all my heart.

  45. For me, the coolest tech toy this year would have to be a drone – and not just any drone, definitely the DJI Phantom 4 with its 4K video and sleek body. Its features are phenomenal and it has received great reviews by professionals across the board.
