There is nothing quite like the feeling you get when you walk into your bedroom after a long day and know your moment to finally relax is at hand. But can you really relax in the bedroom you currently have? Because most people feel that bedrooms are just for sleeping, they are usually the last rooms we focus on when redecorating our homes.

Creating a cozy, comfortable, and welcoming bedroom is one of the most important things you can do for your daily peace of mind, and that doesn’t just go for your own bedroom, but for every bedroom in the house.

From your master bedroom to your kid’s rooms and beyond, if you’d like to breathe some new life into all of your bedrooms, here’s how you can do just that.

Start with a new mattress

Decorating a master bedroom is one of the most fun projects you can take on. There’s bedding to choose, furniture to pick out, and don’t forget about all of those added touches that make your bedroom unique to you.

If you’re wondering where you can start, my best advice is to choose a mattress first. You could have the most comfortable bedding in the world, but you won’t enjoy it if you’re mattress is sagging in the middle or you have a spring stuck in your back all night long.

There are a lot of different mattresses you could choose from, and the type depends on what you find comfortable. The Sealy Posturepedic PROBACK Titanium Plus Euro Pillow Top Mattress will relieve pressure points and, if you’re a restless sleeper, won’t rock the boat and wake up your significant other because it minimizes motion transfer. Or, you could try the Serta Perfect Sleeper mattress. It’s plush surface is perfect if you like to cozy into your mattress and it has a layer of Cool Twist gel memory foam to minimize any pressure points.

I can’t tell you how many people I know who really started to love their bedroom after they invested in a new set of bedroom furniture. It’s a great feeling when you can give away the dresser with broken drawers or actually have a bedframe instead of sleeping on a mattress on the floor.

The good news is that you don’t have to invest in your bedroom furniture piece by piece—you can get the entire set all at once when you pick up an 8-piece Davis Bedroom Set. It comes in cherry wood or crisp white, and is the perfect addition to any master bedroom. Because you get a headboard, footboard, rails, mirror, dresser, two nightstands, and a chest of drawers, you’ll have room for everything you need to store and the perfect platform for a beautiful bed.

Next up is new bedding and sheets, and a great set like the Maholi’s Rare Orchids Collection will be your bed’s crowing glory. For pillows, try the ObusForme 4-1 Cervical Pillow. It gives you four different sleeping positions and is great from people with bad backs or if you wake up with neck pain. Add some decorative touches like a cozy throw blanket, decorative pillow to make your bedroom complete.

Create Cozy Kid’s Roomspillows.jpg

I’ve had a hand in creating several kid’s rooms, and I’m one of those people who doesn’t mind changing them up as my kids grow. Thankfully for me, the changes mostly come down to paint and bedding because I decided to invest in a great set of kid’s bedroom furniture for each of my kids when they were babies. That way they’d have enough furniture for them as they grow.

You can pick up complete kid’s bedroom sets or buy each piece individually. I liked to buy them individually because I’ve transitioned from twin beds to bunk beds for my boys and my daughter has grown up into a double bed that she loves.

Did you know you’re supposed to change out your pillows every six month? Adding a new pillow to your kid’s rooms is good step toward keeping it clean and tidy, especially if they suffer from allergies.

After you’ve picked a paint color and new bedding, all you’ll need to do is add some unique touches like character decorative pillows to create a room they’ll look forward to going to bed in. And that’s a big deal for any parent, because we all know that most kids just don’t want to go to sleep!

Bringing home baby

If you have a new baby and you’ve already got a crib, set of dressers, and a change table, my number one recommendation to make any baby’s room cozy is to pick up a new glider. Having a nice, comfortable place to sit down and nurse or rock your baby in the middle of the night will be something you never regret, and because you can find so many great styles of glider, when your baby is older you can use it in your living room or rec room as additional seating.

Greet your guests

We don’t all have enough space for a great guest room, but if you do you’ll want it to be welcoming for anyone who stays over. Like your master bedroom, a great mattress is the basis for any great weekend visit, but don’t stop there.

When re-doing your guest room, think of the little touches you can add to make it feel like a home away from home—hang up a small smart TV to give them their own remote so they can catch up on their favourite shows and add a basket of lotion or body butter as an little extra. These types of things are something any guest will really appreciate.

I’ve always put re-decorating my bedrooms at the top of my home to-do list, and there’s nothing like looking forward to unwinding and heading off to dreamland in a cozy, comfortable bedroom. With spring here, it’s the perfect time to update and re-do your bedroom, so check out all of the great bedroom furniture on Bestbuy.ca right now.
