philps-sonicare.jpgI can’t say I’ve ever thought about teeth and the care of teeth as much as I have in the past few years. Before I had kids I only had my own teeth to take care of, and keeping them cavity free was a struggle in itself. With four other mouths to worry about now, I feel like I’ve started a crusade against cavities, gingivitis, and the proper use of floss. Once my daughter had her braces put in and my son began using a retainer, the struggle became a little more overwhelming.

Thankfully I have a great dentist, one who understands my phobia of needles and my irrational fear of cavities. On more than one occasion he’s given me great advice about brushes and floss, from how long to brush, how to floss properly, and the best toothbrush to buy, and I didn’t have to buy any specialized equipment from him. He has always recommended the Philips Sonicare line, and because it’s available on Best Buy right now, it’s very easy to pick and choose a toothbrush to suit anyone.

It doesn’t have to be stressful to stay on top of your teeth. Here’s a look at a few ways you can keep on top of your oral hygiene.

Help your kids brush betterPhilips-sonicare-kids.jpg

I don’t know about you, but I’ve had to chase my kids around the house more than a few times to get them to brush their teeth. If you haven’t had that experience, I’m jealous. It’s not fun, and the reason behind it is that I have two kids who can’t stand brushing their back teeth. Those back teeth are where cavities tend to grow, so it’s really important to reach the brush and floss back there.

Because it’s recommended that you brush your teeth for at least two minutes per tooth-brushing session, kids really need a toothbrush that’s effective and helps them learn good brushing habits. That’s why electric toothbrushes are so great: with an electric toothbrush on hand, brushing is fast, easy, and in my opinion, fun.

My dentist recommends the Philips Sonicare Rechargeable Electric toothbrush for kids. It’s 75% more effective than a standard toothbrush, and has a few great features: a KidTimer that extends their brushing time until they’ve reached the two minute mark and a Kid pacer so your kids know when to move the brush to the bottom, side, or top.

gum-health.jpgYou need your gums: take care of them

If you’ve ever walked out of the dentist shell-shocked after a procedure called ‘scaling,’ you know that taking care of your gums should be at the top of your daily list of things to do. The first time this happened to me I almost ran out the door yelling, “I’m too young to have gum issues,” but age doesn’t seem to have much to do with it.

Most people don’t realize you shouldn’t just brush your teeth every day, you should also brush your gums. The Philips Sonicare 2 Series Plaque Control Toothbrush does just that. It gives you sparkling clean teeth, but it also provides the gum care you need. Like the kid’s electric toothbrush, it includes a timer so you know when your 2 minutes are up, and it improves your gum health by reducing redness, swelling, and bleeding. It also removes 6X more plaque than a manual brush, and that means healthier gums.

One brush for all issuessonicare.jpg

If there’s one thing my dentist has told me to do, it’s to push those brush bristles up into my teeth as much as possible to loosen the plaque that sticks in between. I have a hard time with this, so it’s nice to know that dental tech has progressed to the point where those of us who struggle have so many great tools at our disposal.

If you only have two minutes in the morning and two minutes at night to keep your teeth clean, your best choice to do it is the Philips Sonicare DiamondClean. It blasts through plaque at 31,000 brush strokes per minute, and I think that’s a much better way to brush than counting your brush strokes.

airfloss.jpgNot all floss is created equal

Most people know that when they visit the dentist, they’re going to get a lecture from the hygienist about flossing. I probably don’t have to tell you that flossing before your visit isn’t enough, and any good dental hygienist can tell just from how much your gums bleed during cleaning whether or not you floss on a regular basis.

There are a few options when it comes to flossing. Regular floss works well if you don’t get it stuck between your back teeth or in tight corners, and floss sticks are great because they are really handy. But when it comes to getting a deep down floss, the Philips Sonicare AirFloss Pro irrigator is pretty amazing. It’s clinically proven to be as effective as dental floss for your gum health, and it removes 99.9% of plaque wherever you use it.

All it takes is 60 seconds and you’ll be able to blast plaque from your gums, and best of all, you’ll never have to lie to your dental hygienist about your flossing habits again.

There are a lot of things to worry about in life; taking care of your teeth shouldn’t be one of them. That’s probably why my dentist recommends Philips Sonicare electric toothbrushes and AirFloss. These brushes put a lot of power behind those two minutes of brushing, and that can work to prevent cavities and gum disease.

If you have a hard time picking the best brush for you, take a look through the Sonicare lineup and see what Best Buy customers think of it.

Jake from Toronto, Ontario said this about his Sonicare:

Best product!

Once become a Sonicare user, you can never go back to regular toothbrush. My first sonicare lasted 13 years and served me very well.

There are a wide variety of Philips Sonicare brushes available right now at Bestbuy.ca. Just choose one for yourself and your family members and say good-bye to dental stress.
