These days, the vast majority of us listen to music by streaming it from our smartphones or tablets. The problem is that the sound that comes out of those devices isn’t really enough to fill a room, unless of course that device is connected to an external speaker. That’s where the Ultimate Ears Boom2 comes in.

The Boom2 is a wireless, portable, Bluetooth speaker that is shaped like a cylinder no later than a large beer can or small water bottle, and deceptively powerful given its size and funky design. Because of its unique shape and 360-degree speaker system, the Boom2 blasts sound out in every direction, so no matter where you are in the room, you’ll hear the melodies of Christmas in the air.

Like its sibling, the Ultimate Ears Roll, which I reviewed earlier in the year, the Boom2’s controls are exceptionally unassuming. There are power and Bluetooth buttons on the top, and large + / – volume buttons on the side. Outside of that there is a flap that opens to reveal a 3.5mm input for wired listening and a microUSB port for charging. And that’s it! So it is super easy to use for even the least tech-savvy person on your list.

But that’s not what makes the Boom2 so cool. Nope, first, it’s waterproof. It can be fully immersed in water for as long as 30 minutes. True, the sound is a little muffled (but not totally distorted) when submerged, but this feature makes it the ideal companion for pool parties, and shower dancing. Next, you can connect additional Boom2 speakers for a surround sound experience wherever you might be.

Boom2.jpgIt’s also dirt-proof, shock-proof, and has a 100 foot wireless range, so is perfect for all of life’s adventures–hiking, camping, beaching, patio-ing. Add to that its easy-to-use app and a battery life of us to 15 hours, and the Ultimate Ears Boom2 will very quickly become your favourite speaker. Oh, and did I mention it comes in six different colours? From black to pink, there’s a Boom2 for every design aesthetic out there.

Now, in the spirit of the festive season, here are what I think are the top 10 Christmas songs of all time–both the originals and the remakes:
