On the 11th day of Christmas gifts, someone really great gave to me … media streaming!
It’s nice to have your media streaming set up on one TV, but there’s nothing as amazing as has having access to media streaming in your entire home. That way you can go from your upstairs to your downstairs and not have to choose where you watch Netflix, listen to music, or even play with apps.
Take a look at some of the best media streaming options you can give as Christmas gifts this year.
Plug in an Apple TV
Apple TV is one of my favourite smart home products. You can plug it into any TV and turn it into a Smart TV, and the possibilities you get from having one are virtually endless.
Brad has done a great job providing an overview of the features on the new 4th generation Apple TV, and he’s also compared the 4th generation Apple TV to the 3rd generation. Pop over there and take a peek for an in-depth look at this amazing media streamer, but there are a few quick reasons why the Apple TV makes a great Christmas gift.
With just a few taps of the new Siri Apple TV remote, you can access all of your favourite TV shows and movies from Netflix, iTunes, and Youtube. The new Apple TV has onboard storage to give you quick access to your content, and you can even use the remote to play games you access right on the Apple TV home screen.
Speaking of remotes, the Siri remote is voice controlled. If you’ve had a previous generation of Apple TV, you’ll love this feature. Now you don’t have to tap through letters to find what you’re looking for because you can ask Siri to search for you.
Cast away with Google Chromecast
Google Chromecast is so quick and easy to use, you’ll want to give one to everyone on your holiday list this year. It’s a small plug that fits into your TV’s HDMI port, and it lets you ‘cast’ whatever you see on your compatible smartphone or tablet straight to your big screen TV.
I have Chromecast myself and I love how your TV instantly becomes a second screen for your smartphone or tablet. You can cast TV shows, photos, apps, or anything else you’d like to see on your TV, and you can use your smartphone as a remote to control everything you see.
Stream your music from any speaker
Chromecast Audio, just like Chromecast, casts your content. Where Chromecast Video works to cast photos, movies, apps, and TV shows, Chromecast Audio will cast your music from any speaker you have. It’s a great option for someone who has an amazing home theatre or audio set up, but they don’t have speakers with the ability to stream music on their own. Anyone with older speakers will love this.
Chromecast audio connects via a mini audio jack, stereo RCA cable, or an optical cable you can purchase separately.
Erin did a full review of Chromecast if you’d like a few more details on this great media streamer.
