Logitech G502X seriesWhen it comes to PC gaming, one of the most important tools for gamers is their mouse. A good mouse allows gamers to react quickly, is comfortable to use, and is durable. Today I’ll be reviewing the Logitech G502 X series which includes the G502 X, the G502 X Lightspeed, and the G502 X Plus.

The Logitech G502 X series has more in common than you think

The G502 X series has much more in common than you think. Logitech has a clear understanding of what features are important to gamers and included them across all the G502 X series.

Incredible sensitivity and accuracy

All of the G502 X series come with Logitech’s Hero 25k sensor. This sensor allows users to set the mouse’s sensitivity from 100 – 25,600 DPI. Having this kind of flexibility makes the G502 X series perfect for all types of games, applications, and general use.

In addition to the DPI settings buttons along the left side of the G502 X mice you will find the DPI shift button. Pressing on this button temporarily lowers the mouse’s DPI. This button comes in handy when playing shooting games. For example, in first person shooter games players need their mice to have a relatively high DPI so that they can react quickly to their surroundings. However, when using a sniper the magnification of the sniper scope combined with the high DPI makes it difficult to shoot accurately. This is where the DPI shift button comes in handy, pressing the DPI button will temporarily lower the mouse’s sensitivity so that players can be more accurate in their shots.

Hybrid buttons for maximum speed and durability

Logitech has implemented a new hybrid button system in their G502 X series called Lightforce switches. These switches are a hybrid of optical and mechanical switches. A problem that purely mechanical switches is that over time the switches can become less responsive, or create misclicks.

Logitech solves this problem with their Lightforce Hybrid switches. Optical switches have the benefit of being more responsive, faster to register mouse clicks, and won’t degrade over time. Functionally the optical switches are responsible for registering all mouse clicks instead of the mechanical switches. Logitech keeps the mechanical switches so that users will still have the familiar feel of traditional gaming mice.

In my testing this hybrid switch system worked flawlessly. I wasn’t able to feel the difference between my traditional gaming mouse and the Lightforce switches. My movements and the mouse clicks felt exactly as they should be.

Dual-mode scroll wheel

An interesting and welcome design decision is the dual-mode scroll wheel on the G502 X series. The first mode of the wheel is Free Spin, this mode allows the mouse wheel to spin seamlessly without any clicks. In my testing this mode was incredibly smooth and for me worked best for productivity and casual use. I found this mode particularly helpful when scrolling through long documents, webpages, and zooming in on images.

The second scroll setting is called Ratchet mode. This mode gives the wheel a notched feel when you scroll forwards and backwards. This notched feeling lets you know that the mouse has registered the command. I preferred this mode while playing first person shooter games. While gaming, scrolling the wheel forwards or backwards lets you swap weapons. The Ratchet mode’s tactile feedback lets me know that the command has been registered preventing me from over or under scrolling.

The G502 X mice are incredibly comfortable to use

All three G502 X mice are incredibly comfortable to use. Because they all share the same design language I did not have to make any adjustments while swapping between the mice. My hand and arm remained comfortable throughout my long gaming sessions and work days.

Wide range of programmable buttons

The G502 X series have incredible flexibility when it comes to customization. All mice come with 13 programmable buttons which can then be saved into 5 onboard profiles. This customization can be done through Logitech’s G Hub software on PC and MAC.

What’s even better about these profiles is that you can customize the buttons to perform different behaviours depending on what application you’re using. In my testing this feature was incredibly helpful both in my gaming and productivity needs.

Logitech G502 X series differences

When it comes to the Logitech G502 X series there are a few minor differences. Since these mice are functionally equivalent, these differences come down to personal preferences. The first major difference is that the G502 X is a wired mouse while the G502 X Plus and G502 X Lightspeed are wireless mice.

The G502 X Plus’s RGB lights

The G502 X Plus comes with a unique feature that immediately sets it apart from its siblings. This feature is the RGB lighting that can be found throughout its design. There are 8 RGB zones and by default the LEDs are set to cycle through various colours. Using Logitech’s G Hub software you can make customizations to the RGB behaviours, speed, and brightness.

Wireless battery life

The G502 X Lightspeed and G502 X Plus are both wireless mice while the G502 X uses a wired connection. The wireless mice come with Logitech’s Lightspeed wireless technology which is meant to ensure low latency and a consistent wireless connection.

The G502 X Lightspeed has a battery life of 140 hours of continuous use. On the other hand the G502 X Plus’s RGB does take its toll on the battery life. With RGB on the G502 X Plus’s battery is 37 hours. If you decide to use the X Plus with the RGB turned off, the battery life increases to 120 hours.

Endless battery life

If you’re the kind of person that loves wireless devices but isn’t a fan of charging them, then you’re going to love Logitech’s Powerplay. Powerplay is a wireless charging system in the form of a mouse pad. Both the wireless G502 X Plus and X Lightspeed support Powerplay and can be charged wirelessly as long as they are on top of the mousepad. This completely eliminates the need to charge the mice. In the case of the G502 X Plus you can leave the RGB on without worrying about impacts to the mouse’s battery life.

Logitech G502 X, X Plus, X Lightspeed

A great line of gaming mice for everyone

The G502 X, the G502 X Lightspeed, and the G502 X Plus are a great line of gaming mice. They come with a host of features and customizations that will be sure to please all users regardless of gaming, productivity, or general use. Logitech clearly understands their customer base and left no stone unturned when it comes to providing the best features.

Of the three, my personal favourite is the G502 X Plus. I loved having 13 customizable buttons, the RGB lights, and wireless connectivity. In the case that I feel the need to conserve battery life I can easily turn off the RGB lights.
