If you’re a gamer, then Quoted Tech’s Frontier is one of the best prizes you can win from the blog’s contests. With a design inspired by Banff National Park, the Frontier is a pre-built gaming computer that reflects all the power and beauty of the Rocky Mountains and glacial lakes in its performance. Each of the PC’s high-end components were carefully put together to provide a smooth gaming experience, and you can have the chance to have it all to yourself by entering below!
Building a custom gaming PC
When the pandemic-that-shall-not-be-named took over the world, I got into watching gaming content creators stream themselves playing games. These creators make a living through live streaming and rely on powerful computers that can simultaneously handle both demanding games and streaming their gameplay in real time. Because it is a profession, they often have to upgrade their PCs as graphics cards, processors, and gaming technologies constantly evolve and make the “new” become outdated in a just a few years. Some streamers choose to switch out old parts from an existing PC build, while others choose to build an entirely new custom gaming computer.
Key gaming PC components
For the uninitiated like me, DIY-ing your own custom gaming PC like the Frontier can seem quite intimidating. First, you have to gather the key components that make up a computer:
- Central Processing Unit (CPU) — the brain of the computer
- Graphics Processing Unit (GPU) — a card that can render high-quality images
- Storage drive — a drive (SSD or HDD) that safely stores all the files, videos, and games that you will use
- Random Access Memory (RAM) — short-term memory that helps the CPU temporarily store data needed to execute multiple tasks
- A motherboard — to facilitate efficient communication between all components
- Cooling system — fans or pipes with water that push out the heat generated by the components
- Power supply (PSU) — to deliver enough power to each key component
- Case — housing that will securely and stylishly hold and organize all your PC components
Pre-built PC vs. DIY PC
When choosing PC components, you have to ensure that the motherboard is the right size for the case, that the CPU and RAM are compatible, that the cooling system you choose will actually be enough, that your components will give you the performance you desire, etc., etc., etc. Then, you have to fit and screw in all the components into your case correctly, while ensuring you don’t damage any of the delicate bits of the machinery. Its a lot. It’s not impossible to do on your own even as a beginner, but it does require research, effort, and external guidance.
So when it comes to the debate between going with pre-built versus build-it-yourself PCs, Quoted Tech’s custom PCs, like the Frontier, are in my opinion, the better choice. The assembling and testing are done for you, but you get to choose between type of processor, processing power, and amount of RAM and storage. So it’s still a custom-built PC but somebody else does all the hard work and you can rest easy knowing that all the components are high-quality and will work smoothly together. Even most of the game streamers I watch outsource their custom-PC building!
What makes the Frontier PC a win win?
If you win the Frontier in this contest, you will receive the high-end, custom-built gaming computer that Marcus tested out in his review. Head over to his article to get a full list of the exact specs of the PC. All I will say here is that they are impressive and the performance was “nothing short of amazing,” according to Marcus. That’s the first win. As for the second, the components that make up this PC aren’t going to become outdated in a hurry. But, there’s is no doubt that they will eventually. (That’s not the win.) When that time comes, don’t put it in storage and leave it for your descendants to discover as an ancient artifact. Instead, you can switch out the parts you need to. Purchase and fit in the newer, faster processor or install that higher RAM upgrade or better GPU. That’s the win.
But it does lead me to wonder, like the Ship of Theseus thought experiment, if the Frontier that exists after the replacements will be the same Frontier as the Frontier that existed before the replacements?
Who can say.
Only this contest’s winner.
How to enter
Entering this contest is easy and you can enter in three different ways.
- Visit the gaming monitors page then return here and in a comment below, include the name and model number of the monitor that you would pair with this powerful PC. Then, tell us what room you would set the PC and monitor up in and how you would decorate the space to match.
- In a comment below Marcus’ review of the Frontier, tell us two of its features mentioned by Marcus that you think are the most impressive.
- Create a public post on a social media channel sharing with your friends and followers that you are entering to win a gaming PC from Best Buy. Include the hashtag #BestBuyFrontierPCcontest, so we can find your post, and include a picture from this post. Then return here and tell us in a comment below on which channel you posted it and the name of your channel (since many people use pseudonyms) so that we can check and verify your entry. You can use any two social media channels (Twitter, Facebook, Instagram, TikTok, LinkedIn, etc.), but each post must be public so we can verify it is there.
What you can win
At the end of the contest, one winner will be randomly selected from all eligible entries. The winner will receive the Quoted Tech Frontier PC that was reviewed on the blog.
This contest runs from December 4th to December 18th.
Remember, you can enter this contest up to four different times to have the best chance to win this high-value gaming computer. Make sure to share this contest with any gamers you know and encourage them to enter, too. Think of the colourful LEDs, the whirring of the cooling fans, and the excitement of booting up an adventure to be immersed in. Winning this prize is an opportunity you shouldn’t miss!
