  1. A neighbour child has a birthday on Christmas Day. The day before I made small cupcakes and had a cupcake decorating party for him and his brother.

  2. Every November we get together with our cousins to make Tourtieres. A day of visiting, baking and fun!!

  3. When I was little, my mother tried to assemble a gingerbread house. I don’t know how it went so catastrophically wrong, but I remember that we ended up having to use a glue gun go assemble it. We still laughing about it to this day.

  4. We weren’t very rich when I was young but I remember that my mom used to make fruit cakes as part of the holiday spirit. It’s probably the cause that I really enjoy eating these cakes instead despising them like most people.

  5. Couple years ago i made rum cake on Christmas for the first time and everyone loved it so much and since then, rum cake has began a tradition every Christmas.

  7. We carry on my Grandma’s tradition of making a bunch of pierogies on Xmas eve. Each person creates their own kind, ranging from the regular cheese and bacon to blue cheese/roasted mushroom, to a reuben filled one.

    I’ve wanted a mixer for years. Would help with these pierogies and the bread we make!

  9. I find making shortbread cookies at Christmas so magical. I’m still doing this with my now 27 year old son and we always really enjoy that special time together. I hope that there will be many more years of this to come!

Christmas is the time for baking cookies and making gingerbread houses but since I have no other use for molasses which are a key ingredient used to make gingerbread, the family always makes sugar cookies and cuts them into shapes to make sugar cookie houses instead. same goes for gingerbread men – they’re really sugar cookie men.

    • Christmas is a time for baking, making chocolates at home and also do some crazy amazing pizzas baked at home from scratch.

      For a delight twist I would say there is so much you can do with eggs. I would treat friends and family to some delicious egg cookings ( sometimes scrambled, sometimes sunny side up) my receipts would include use of sambal olek or chilli garlic sauce, Costco pesto sauce, try to be very creative with ingredients and use different cheeses goat, feta and other different options.

      On the other hand we make cookies and cakes and much more.

  11. My Mum & I make “real” Scottish shortbread every Christmas. We try to marathon through it all at once and make enough tins for all our friends and family. This year we’re hoping to get my 20-something niece involved so the family tradition continues.

  12. In grade 8, I misread a recipe for shortbread cookies and instead of 1 cup of butter I added 1lb. of butter. Needless to say they melted everywhere. I got my mother and told her what happened and she helped me fix the recipe. We ended up with a lot of shortbread cookies.

  21. My mother used to have us kids make a Sunday supper for the grandparents. I liked to experiment with herbs. Now I grow my own – fresh – in my kitchen. The taste of meals are so much more flavorful and holiday foods have so much more decorated with imagination.

  22. We use a lot of venison – mostly as sausage and jerky. This year I bought a smoker so we can move into more elegant dishes like the restaurants offer. I am experimenting with preserves that will be suitable.
