deep clean spring cleaning your home You can look at spring cleaning in one of two ways. On one hand it’s a big job you may have been putting off for a while, but on the other, it’s a way to clean up those cob webs, open up your windows, and usher spring into your home. I look forward to spring cleaning, because even if it’s raining every day, it’s the official kick off to sunnier skies and warmer days.

Because it’s a big job, you need to tackle spring cleaning strategically. Here’s a few different items you should clean and different ways you can take on spring cleaning this year.

Target key spring cleaning areas

spring cleaning products When you’re making your way through a long Canadian winter, it’s easy to skip cleaning things like blinds, deep cleaning your counter tops, or cleaning the crust and dust out of your small appliances. Spring cleaning season is the best time to take the blinders off and take a good look around your home. You’d be surprised at the cobwebs and long-left spills you might find.

Set yourself up for spring cleaning success with the right supplies

household cleanersYes, you can spring clean with a towel and a spray bottle of water, but in my experience the job goes much faster and I’m more efficient when I have the right spring cleaning supplies on hand. Household cleaners like mops, brooms, stainless steel cleaner for the refrigerator, stove, and dishwasher, and microfiber towels are all great to have when you’re spring cleaning.

This is also the time of year I take a good long look at my vacuum cleaner, checking for clogs and cleaning out the filters. My Dyson Upright Multi-floor vacuum cleaner has been my buddy for daily cleaning for a few years now, and I like to make sure it’s in tip top shape before I hit the rafters in search of cobwebs.

Start at the top, work your way down

If you have a lot of windows you might want to consider adding a window cleaning robot to your spring cleaning tool kit. The Toyrexx Automatic Window Cleaning Robot can tackle this big job for you by automatically cleaning your windows inside and out.

Remove the dust from your lights

crystal bloom Whether you have wall sconces, hanging pendant lights, or chandeliers, you’re going to want to take the time to deep clean them in the spring. A light that’s clean will make for a brighter room, so spray down a cloth, shine up the glass or crystal, and remove any excess dust with your vacuum cleaner.

Deep clean your appliances

Wipe down your refrigerator and take the opportunity to toss out food that’s past its expiry, look inside your dishwasher and remove any debris that may be clogging the filter.

Take your toaster oven and check for build-up on the lower tray. It doesn’t take long to do, and your kitchen will feel a lot cleaner when your appliances are sparkling.

Steam clean your bedding

It takes my Samsung washing machine about 2 1/2 hours to steam clean my bedding, but I swear it feels brand new when it’s finished. Steam cleaning removes dust and allergens that have accumulated over the winter, so it’s one of the best things you can do for a good night’s sleep.

Deep clean your floors

When you have hardwood or laminate flooring in your home, it’s really easy to skip the mopping and just vacuum or sweep. I rely on my iRobot Braava jet 240 mopping robot to keep my floors clean on a weekly basis, but when I spring clean I also put some good, old-fashioned muscle into it and get on my hands and knees to wipe down the cracks and baseboards near the floor.

If you add a bit of scented floor cleaner to your water before washing, your house will smell fresh and clean too.

Spring clean your carpets

dyson I have hardwood in my house but I also have a few area rugs placed in every room. Those rugs take an absolute beating every winter, with pets and kids bringing mud in with them.

Spring is the best time to take a look at your area rugs, decide if they need to be replaced, and if not, grab a carpet cleaner and do a quick deep clean on them. You’ll be amazed at how fresh they will look and how dirty they actually were once you use a carpet cleaner.

Don’t forget about your electronics

screen cleaner Just like I deep clean my appliances, furniture, and bedding, I also like to give my electronics a spring clean too. I wipe down my computer keyboard and use compressed air to blow out any debris that might be hiding under the keyboard. I also like to get a screen cleaner and use it to wipe down all of the screens in my house.

From the 4K TV to all four of our computers and the screens of my security cameras, I wipe down everything with the screen cleaner and the view is instantly better. You can also take your vacuum cleaner and clean out the fan of any desktop computer you may have. You’d be surprised at how dust builds up inside your tower during the winter.

Not everyone enjoys spring cleaning, but you can’t argue with the results when the warm sun is shining into your home and everything is sparkling. From vacuum cleaners to household cleaning supplies, you can find everything you need for spring cleaning on Best Buy.
