When I was growing up most homes had a very plain stove: white; single small oven; raised burners that you had to put those silver aluminum trays under to catch all the burnt food bits you dropped into your elements. Times have sure changed now! You can pretty much customize your stove to suit your cooking needs and preferences and I think that because of this people are more inspired to cook a delicious meal at home.

A double oven

double ovenDouble ovens are perfect for anyone who loves to cook, has a large family to cook for or loves to entertain. There are many pros to a double oven. They allow you to cook dishes at different temperatures, keep one course warm until consumption for a fancy 5 course meal or bake a dessert while your main cooks. Double ovens are standard in overall size but come in a variety of size options where you can choose the size of the ovens that will best suit your cooking needs.

A few things to think about with the purchase of a double oven is that while you’re getting two ovens, the larger of the two will still be smaller than your typical standard single oven. The bottom oven will also be lower to the ground which means there will be a lot more bending involved and this could be an issue for some people.

Like most stoves on the market today you’ll be able to find double ovens in the free standing or slide-in style and in a variety of sizes to fit perfectly into your designated range spot in your kitchen.

Induction cooking is here

induction ovenInduction stoves don’t seem to get as much attention as gas or electric stoves, but having an induction cooktop has many pros.

For those who aren’t familiar with induction cooking, this type of cooking happens through an electromagnetic field below the glass cooktop surface that transfers current directly to magnetic cookware. This cuts out the step of heating up a burner and then transferring the heat to the pot which allows for a faster cook time and quicker adjustments to temperature changes during cooking. This also means that as soon as you remove the cookware from the glass top there is no longer any heat which makes the chance of a burn from touching the top significantly less. This may appeal to people with smaller children or pets who like to jump up on the counters.

A few cons to induction cooktops are that because they use a magnetic field there is no glow during cooking which makes it hard to tell if your burners on by simply looking at them. Also due to the cooking happening from a magnetic field you may need to invest in new cookware if your current set is not compatible with induction cooking.

Convection cooking is fast and efficient

convection ovenA convection stove uses a fan to circulate heat which ensures your oven won’t have any hot spots and your foods will get cooked evenly. With the fan constantly circulating heat throughout the oven, you can put your dish on any rack and even cook multiple dishes at the same time and still have correctly cooked dishes when the timer goes off.

I use a convection stove in my own home, and one thing I’ve noticed during baking is that I need to adjust the cooking time when I’m following a recipe to a lesser time. Typically, I take off about ten minutes from the recommended cooking time, check my foods when the timer goes off and then if my dish isn’t fully cooked, I’ll finish cooking in small increments until cooked through. This can be annoying at first, but you’ll soon get the hang of how your oven works and find it won’t be an issue any longer.
