According to the history books – or what are now more commonly referred to as Wikipedia pages – the first mechanical dishwashing device was patented in 1850. It wasn’t until one hundred years later that they started appearing in the homes of the wealthy. Since then, the dishwasher has evolved from a luxury and a status symbol to an absolute necessity in any modern kitchen. And as a brand that has been in the household appliance business since the early 1900’s, it makes sense that Frigidaire has a strong foothold in the consumer dishwasher market.

It’s not just one thing that makes Frigidaire dishwashers stand out from the crowd. I’ve been reviewing tech and consumer appliances for some time now, and I swear Frigidaire might have more registered trademarks and patents than anyone out there. Among those are:

  1. OrbitClean® Spray Arm – Taking the laments of consumers to heart, Frigidaire came up with this innovative spray arm that works independently of the upper and middle spray arms. Rather than drawing the same pattern of water over your soiled dishes through its entire cycle, the OrbitClean covers four times the area with soap and water by rotating as it turns in circles at the bottom of the dishwasher.
  2. SaharaDry™ – Just as the name implies, Frigidaire’s SaharaDry technology dries your dishes dryer than they’ve ever been before. When the this option is selected, the dishwasher boosts the temperature of the final rinse and extends drying time by about 20 minutes so your dishes don’t need to be towel dried after being machine dried.
  3. DishSense™ – Again, staying true to what the name implies, Frigidaire’s DishSense automatically selects a cleaning cycle based on the sensed needs of the loaded dishes.

If you’re looking to take advantage of these features but don’t want to invest an arm and a leg, look no further than Frigidaire’s Tall Tub Built-In Dishwasher. Not only does this model feature OrbitClean®, SaharaDry™, and DishSense™, but between it’s Fits-More™ capacity and SpaceWise® adjustable organization system you can fit up to 14 place settings and those annoying larger items with no problem at all. It’s also seriously quiet. As a child of the 80’s and a renter in a 1960’s apartment building, I’m well aware of the noise level that can accompany some dishwashers, but with this model there’s no need to worry about scheduling your phone calls around your rinse cycle.

The Tall Tub comes in both black and white models, but if you’re looking to step it up a notch, you can opt for the stainless steel model. It comes with all the features of the basic models (FFBD2406NW and FFBD2406NB) as well as Energy Star certification, its unique NSF Certified Sanitization Cycle which removes 99.9% of common household bacteria, and its fantastic Smudge-Proof™ stainless steel that resists fingerprints and smudges so it is ridiculously easy to clean.

In a nutshell, the Frigidaire Tall Tub is a fantastic option for bachelors and families alike. Check out Best Buy’s full selection of Frigidaire dishwashers here.
